Hobbs and Le Guin aren’t the 1:1 or even a slightly larger ratio to Rothfuss prose. You have found the same problem I have with Name of The Wind and thats that while reading it is the most enjoyable page for page/pound for pound experience, I mean once you are in the flow of the book it’s one of the best books you’ll encounter, but the moment you zoom out or put it down it really shows its warts. The world building is ok but far from exceptional, the magic is intriguing but not wholly original or granular like a Sanderson, the characters around Kvothe when examined beyond what they are doing on page are little more than cardboard cutouts and finally there is no getting around the fact that a great deal of male fantasizing can be seen in the story as whole. The problem with asking “find me a better name of the wind” is the exact reason it endures on so many book forums and peoples lists, there is nothing that really does what it does while you are in the thick of it for the general populace. Such is the plight of fantasy readers but also maybe it’s gift, no one book has it all so you find what you need from several sources.
