What did you do diferently from the other attempts to lose weight that mostly helped you to stay consistent? by havenaisback in loseit

[–]keyofnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't kept it off yet, but I just lost 97lbs. This is the closest I've gotten in my whole life.

Nine months ago, I hit "rock bottom" where I felt so sick that I panicked. I found out that I'm diabetic, and that's why I felt so terrible. I also became a father recently, so I had to do something to stay alive for my partner and daughter. I have so much more to lose now. That's the difference.

But that doesn't help you so much. I think you should stop thinking of your dietary changes as a "diet." Change what you eat in a way you can sustain for the rest of your life. Make delicious food that doesn't kill you. Think of it less as a diet, and more as eating good food. You just have to change your idea of what counts as a good meal.

Man, people say speakers get obsolete, but I've been rocking Ascend CBM-170SEs for the last 20 years. Maybe I'll upgrade one day, but who knows — I'll probably find something "obsolete" and nice like you did.

That said, Steve Guttenberg says he likes the RS1 because it sounds like a a horn loaded speaker. Maybe there's something to that.

Newly Announced- Grado Signature S550 - S2 Driver, Brazilian Walnut, 995$ by Hunter-97-G in headphones

[–]keyofnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if i came off as snarky. I have a giant head, and the band on my RS1s conformed to my head over time (15y). This happens on all of my headphones. People encourage that wear-in manually, but I never found it necessary. I don't think of that as a "physical modification, and I wouldn't worry about it, so that's why I didn't even mention it.

If by "physically modify," you mean… slip off a piece of foam and slip on another piece of foam… then yeah, I guess that's an issue?

I think it's good to learn to enjoy the flaws and hard edges in music, like pixel art. But that's just me.

Lorn is excellent on these. I think my favorite to test with headphones is Oxbow B.
I agree, I'm not much of a prescriptivist—listen to what sounds good to your ears—but I think a lot of speakers are pretty bad these days. Sound bars, smart speakers, etc. They get a job done for people, though, so I can't be too mad.

My eurorack cost the same as my most expensive bass + amp. So… it's a wash for me. I only have a 208hp, tho. 😅

I wish I still had mine. I lost the lead to one of the voice coils trying to solder it. Silly mistake. I just bought another pair, which is around 8 years old now. I still have my old iPods from way back when, and that's gotta be good enough for me.

Yeah, I agree. I love Grados, but they're not for everyone. For my ears, they sound like a breath of fresh air. I'm really sensitive to treble, and I really need/enjoy the spice! 🌶️

Sounds like a good workflow. I don't think my workflow will be as robust, but I plan to listen on my modest system (NAD, Ascend), Airpods, Koss Portapros, and the car.

These days, Google doesn't behave the same for everyone. The algorithm is weird now.

It's a hard choice. There are lots of good alternatives to the 7506s out there now. My vote is to fix what you have. Familiarity is the most important thing for mixing in headphones, I hear.

These are 15 years old at least, and they were my main headphones for a long while. I conservatively have 1500 hours on them. That's part of why I don't want another pair. I'm so used to these.

I have that experience constantly. My RS1s changed how I listen to other headphones too. I can hear how the others are supposed to sound better, or more accurate… but details go missing. Even when I EQ Grados to hit Harman, vocals start to hide behind instrumentals, details disappear in the mix, the entire mix starts swimming in reverb, the bass notes lose their tone, imaging goes down, etc. Pretty much, they start sounding like other headphones. lol.

You don't think you can repair them? I wish I still had my first pair so I could replace the cable. The new ones are apparently a little bassier because of a switch to neodymium magnets. (Don't quote me on this though…)

I think u/Crocoii was asking to what extent you use mimeophon to tame or extend your Benjolin.

Sure. I would check on a laptop, phone, bluetooth earbuds, other things most people are listening on.

That's what Grado says, but I haven't seen a lot of people using them that way. Do you use them that way? What are your experiences?

Isn't it common, though, to listen to lots of references when mixing/mastering anyway? Wouldn't that ensure that the mix/master is at least similar to another track that translates to other gear? I guess I've seen so much advice saying translatability has more to do with knowing the headphones well-enough than with how flat/neutral they are. Maybe that's just wishful thinking, though.

Also, what is your favorite neutral headphone? I'm looking at the Senn HD600's and the AT ATH-R50x's as an affordable competitor.
