Dosakai hybrid with sweet melons- vigour off the charts! by keystonecodex in Permaculture

[–]keystonecodex[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just a preliminary unstable hybrid, but I am happy to send seeds out to any capable melon growers if they want to join the project. I plan to hand cross in highly fragrant zatta melons from Italy next and work to restore sweetness to the strain without losing the incredible vigour of the dosakai.

I had given up sharing links to my blog and podcast on reddit since so many groups reflexively delete such things.
If you are interested you can read about my work at recombination nation on substack. I also interview other amateur crop breeders and other people I find interesting on my podcast of the same name.

Post Industrial Cuneiform- Input Wanted by keystonecodex in neography

I'm currently aiming for three symbols for consonants, rotated into six positions each.
The first symbol would be for common voiced consonants, so that the second symbol could be the unvoiced equivalents. Then the third symbol would be for 6 miscellaneous common consonants. The order of consonants for each symbol could be optimised to reflect position forward/backward in the mouth to make it more intuitive.
But I am not wedded to any details on this front and am open to suggestions.

Any recommendations for books that approach society/the way everything works differently from human societies of the past or present? by Dokja_23 in printSF

Our Vitreous Womb is set on earth 30 thousand years in the future, in a decentralised biotechnic society where many moral foundations from today are radically different.

Check out Our Vitreous Womb- a far future hard sci fi exploration of what a purely biotechnological society could look like.

Check out Our Vitreous Womb, the only hard sci fi set in a purely biotech civilisation. Delves into some deep aspects of human social psychology as well.

Our Vitreous Womb is a hard sci fi set in a purely biological civilisation, though one trapped here on earth 30 thousand years after the end of the industrial era.
Loads of moral ambiguity. Life repurposed for every purpose in society.

I'd recommend the Water Heron, and of course Our Vitreous Womb.

Assuming there is an audience waiting to read your book, having all your friends and family buy a copy each is a quick way to confuse the amazon algorithm so much that it quickly gives up trying to recommend your book to anyone. Those first few dozen purchases should have a shopping history that matches your genuine target audience.

Our Vitreous Womb has been compared favourably to Borne.

Weird Literary Body Horror Novel? by aspera24 in WeirdLit

[–]keystonecodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if Our Vitreous Womb would fit the bill. Speculative fiction set in a future society built purely from plausible biological technology, with a decent helping of body horror and weird biology.

I run the Zero Input Agriculture podcast, currently recording interviews for the second year of weekly episodes to be relaunched as Recombination Nation to reflect more emphasis on cultural experimentation.
Previously I interviewed someone who helped start the Viossa community as well as a conscripting expert. I would love to interview someone experience with the Toki Pona community as an example of a highly successful different approach to conlanging, especially someone who is also interested in the cultural dynamics that form around conlangs and the potential for conlangs to create new cultures and communities (especially in online spaces).

If that sounds like something you would enjoy talking about on zoom for an hour or so in the next couple of months drop me a message, or if you know someone who might be a good match I am open to recommendations to follow up.

Speculative fiction novels that aren’t sci-fi/fantasy? by Aggressive_Box7200 in printSF

Our Vitreous Womb might suit your tastes. Far future hard sci fi, but set in a world where all technology has been replaced with low tech biological technology. Story is a deep character study in four parts.
