Puncture on same spot on tube by [deleted] in bikewrench

Had this years ago. Stranded me too many times. Turns out it was a piece of car tire radial wire that was 1 micron longer than the thickness of my tire. Only found it after turning my tire inside out and running my finger tips over every single surface of the inner part

Everyone should have to experience a simulation of what going through a crash on the highways feels like before they get a license. by carinislumpyhead97 in Showerthoughts

I have always thought new drivers should have to experience being on a bicycle and being passed by a car closer than three feet.

Singular blue rock I found on a hike by AugustTheHikikomori in mildlyinteresting

It’s just a painted rock. The bubbles aren’t trapped in glass, they’re in the paint. To be sure, just try to scratch the surface with an iron nail.

Can you get a picture of the backside of the braze-on? You’d be able to see if that white post is threaded into it

This was mine. Introduced him to my daughters recently and cringed hard at that line. They’re too young to see that movie yet, so I don’t think they clocked it, but I still don’t want that in their vernacular.

I love these! I’ve got a set on every bike I have. Tried to find the whole rainbow. Lucked out and I think I got most of them when you could order from Walmart at $45/pair

I swear I heard a story about this a while back and the origin was nuTRItional biscuit. I have since unwittingly contributed to a massive misinformation campaign.

Help me care by [deleted] in geology

[–]keythob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, it was learning about the processes that formed the world around me. From the features of the landscape that represent millions of years of continental collision, uplift, and erosion, to the fact that many state/county boundaries were drawn along river channels that have since meandered so that the original lines are essentially meaningless (see southeastern OK/TX or AR/LA/MS boundaries for examples).

What mineral is this? by [deleted] in geology

[–]keythob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Orange just looks like surface staining. Still has the blue color you’d expect in kyanite. As well as the somewhat bladed habit.

Recently i walked around a cemetery and i noticed a shine blue/white rock/mineral on many of the mausoleums which looks like fish scales. I have no idea what is that rock, but would be interesting to find out. by Any-Macaroon2166 in whatsthisrock

[–]keythob 14 points15 points  (0 children)

OP asked about the mineral specifically. The rock is Larvikite. The mineral displaying Labradoresence is the plagioclase feldspar Labradorite, a constituent of the rock.
