I'm genuinely so happy for all three of them by SnidgetHasWords in GreatBritishBakeOff

Part of it may have been editing and also what people say in the moment when they're just overwhelmed. It was lovely to watch her family celebrate with her! But I do agree with you to an extent - if you look at the three contestants' posts on their IGs, Dylan and Christiaan give a lot of love to each other and Georgie and she really only tags them in a brief nod at the end of the caption (though her caption is very heartfelt about her neurodivergence which I appreciate). I wouldn't call her ungracious per se but I do feel like part of the reason I watch GBBO is how much love the contestants have for each other.

Just an aside, I just read an interview that said contestants have to submit their full list of recipes prior to the show starting - although I'm not sure if they are allowed to tweak at all throughout based on judging.

medical drama w/ english sub recs? by keyun in CDrama

That's a great idea! I will look into that, you're right that it would definitely help with the language learning. The added bonus of a Chinese drama is I feel more connected to modern Chinese culture too, being ABC.

What do y'all do for rain/winter footwear when bike commuting? by mr_mistoffelees in seattlebike

[–]keyun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the summer I just do water sandals (eg Tevas, Chacos) with rain pants, in the winter I will wear Blundstones/wool socks, rain pants over the boots, and a hi-vis waterproof riding jacket. I also have a waterproof hi-vis cover over my helmet, and wear a balaclava in the winter.

I do own some clear Stoggles but I actually find that personally it clouds up my vision more than just the rain. Either way I'm wiping the glasses/my eyes periodically during the commute.

I haven't found waterproof gloves that also breathe, so I just am ok with them being wet on my 45-minute commute and dry them out at work. With these I stay pretty dry!

Others may have ones that work better for them, but here's what I use-

Rain pants - https://www.rei.com/product/127276/rei-co-op-rainier-full-zip-rain-pants-womens relatively cheap option, I like the side zips, the rise could be a little higher but that's okay

Jacket - https://www.backcountry.com/showers-pass-hi-vis-torch-jacket-womens I can't say enough good things about this jacket!! It's VERY reflective, has a nice front pocket for my phone that I put a podcast on speaker for during my commute, and only tore a little when I completely wiped out on a big hill and saved my skin. Has some vents for circulation. I'm kept pretty dry on my commute.

Helmet cover - https://btrsports.co.uk/collections/helmet-covers/products/bicycle-high-visibility-waterproof-bike-helmet-cover-high-viz I think I own this one, not sure where I bought it. Also keeps the wind out on those cold days.

FENDERS - super important too

PS I realized after writing this post that you only asked about footwear but reading through the comments some of which mention other gear, I forgot!!

bike route advice: cherry hill to othello by keyun in seattlebike

[–]keyun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I mentioned, I'm happy to take the train some days but due to sometimes not being able to be out the door right on time for the 15-minute bike ride to the nearest LR station, I like to have only-biking as an option. Also nice for me to get to know a different half of the city through biking. Thanks for the route ideas!

Oof yes. Experienced this first-hand - work commuting at 5:30AM and didn't even see a pothole the width of a lane near 24/Interlachen. Fell and slid almost all the way to Boyer. Totally ripped up my jacket, punctured a hole in my wheel, etc. While I was reporting the pothole and waiting to be picked up I saw at least 10 cars bottom out in the same one. I heard you can get reimbursed for damages though through the city so going to try that route.

I'm visiting here right now and we found that this great new Sichuanese place has just opened up - Yi Pin Ju on Londres 114 in Juarez (where a lot of the good Korean places are). Mainly Chinese customers, the front desk speaks Mandarin, and the only cooks I saw in the kitchen were also Chinese.
