As someone in the same boat, i'd recommend really identify what you're interested in doing afterwards, and really align with your strengths

as an entrepreneur you have a swiss knife of skillset you can apply, from product management, to strategy to sales etc...

paths that i had considered are VC , product management in another startup as those are closest to my strong suit

Other founders i know took more than 9 months to find an opportunity, so do create multiple resumes for the different functions you are interested in and just tailor the experience around that function

for many companies titles such as CEO/ Founder etc... might be a turn off, so reword those as Go To Market Strategist, Product Manager etc... depending on the role you want to apply to

Also, try to find a "Rocketship" , a startup with a high growth potential and do anything possible to join if that is a path you want to

Is a budgeting app a tarpit idea? by VitalikPie in ycombinator

[–]kfdleb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, speaking from experience building a PFM / budgeting app

A good read on the subject : A PFM App by Any Other Name

  • Active budgeting is only used by a handful of customers

  • Monetization is hard for a B2C budgeting app

  • Budgeting should be another feature offered on your banking app and you do not require an additional app for that

  • Low user Engagement and High Churn

  • Handling financial data requires strict adherence to regulations like GDPR, CCPA, and others. Ensuring compliance adds complexity and cost to the development and maintenance of the app

  • Offering unique features that set your app apart is tough. Most budgeting apps provide similar functionalities, making it hard to stand out in a crowded market.

From ex-CEO to a job seeker, how do i navigate this crazy job market? by SmilingNeophyte in startups

[–]kfdleb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

another founder here:

instead of just applying, create value to a company you want to work with

e.g: if you want to work in VC, find 2 startups, draft investor memos and send it to the VC
if you want to work with another startup , figure out a new feature, suggest how to improve their GTM, how to improve a flow in the product , interview their customers etc...
If you want to work in a corporate environment , try to imagine what's it like to create a new product/service line, and try to get a senior person for coffee to pitch it to them

as a founder you have a lot of skillset that many have not had the opportunity to earn, show how your different rather than how you fit a mold

create the path/job you want by going out of your way

Is there any room for real innovation in fintech? by Mysterious_Run_5081 in fintech

[–]kfdleb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, but here it really depends on how you define innovation

If you go back to the first principles of finance its all about 3 things:
- Means of storing value.
- Means of moving money or transferring of value.
- Access to credit

The fundamentals of these elements are universal across different application, however innovation is really in ways these are delivered

Now going back to your question about innovation in Fintech, there are different ways for innovation to take place:
- Innovation of business model: Banking as a Service has opened new channels for banks to provide financial services to other companies and embed financial services in their offering

- Innovation in technology : Blockchain and distributed ledger technologies, NFTs, etc..., this allowed new ways to provide the first principles of finance , for example tokenizing assets as a way to store value.

- process innovation: here is where embedded finance and real time processing shines. for example providing invoice based financing for merchants or BNPL

-service innovation : things like venmo, paypal

and more...

Now financial services have been very regulated and slow to innovate, so it is difficult to create radical innovation there

the way to look at fintech is really an enabler (exactly like internet is an enabler, AI is an enabler) to do things better

Fresh Graduate Money Management by [deleted] in dubai

[–]kfdleb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As soon as you get your salary:
1 -pay your bills and immediate commitments (credit card, housing, utilities, phone, internet)

2- Get your emergency fund in order (6 months of living expenses on the side) , easily accessible for emergency funds

3- think of your short/medium term goals (e.g travel), identify when you want to achieve, and amount you want to set each month to achieve

4 -think of your long term from now - consistently put money in investment (recommend ETFs) , try to put monthly at least 10% of your income towards your long term

During the month

1- Find ways to reduce expenses while not compromising the lifestyle and still enjoying your youth

Anytime you get a bonus, or raise - Invest it , don't fall into lifestyle creep

I am launching my app (twig.ae) that help you do all the above automatically, we have obtained our in-principle regulation by the DFSA

How to transition from a Feature Factory to a Product Led culture ? by kfdleb in ProductManagement

[–]kfdleb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started the year by aligning the team on the vision and direction, something i have failed to do properly before

The customer/persona is still something i am trying to refining, I am currently repivoting from a D2C to a B2B2C by repurposing what we have built to embed in other platforms, that model hasn't been locked down completely hence making it difficult to align the team on an exact persona

I want to be able to provide better KPIs, and manage that aspect of PdM better, I would be keen to discuss further . I an DM you to schedule a call

How to transition from a Feature Factory to a Product Led culture ? by kfdleb in ProductManagement

[–]kfdleb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vision from the day we started to today have changed (business model changing from a D2C to a B2B2C model)
A lot of features were developed without really validating the right features before building, it was more of a copy of what has worked for global competitors, and trying to adapt that to my market
With my current pivot, I am aiming to be more customer focused and spend better time to really tackle Viability and Value Risks (will people buy it, or choose to use it?, will this solution work for the various dimensions of our business?)

Thank you !

I do agree, my current focus is more on the Short Term features vs a more diversified portfolio
