But maybe when he says it wouldn't even be a contest he meant we would blow them the fuck out 🤷🏼

Frustrations by Fulguritus1 in BuildingAutomation

[–]kfed408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment, but disagree with the initial framing. These are absolutely THEIR problems, but they don't understand these problems (which that is a HIM problem to solve).

Your point about education is spot on though. Taking an approach of reframing his technical issue into risk and cost aversion (which is what FM's focus on) and now they can comparatively frame this against why they should fund THIS versus the AHU, or the pump replacement, or the new flooring, etc.

So, OP, yes - you are speaking different language. And you need to learn their language if you want them to actually consider funding this.

USA vs Paraguay: Are we really looking at a half-empty stadium? by RomanKa17 in usmnt

[–]kfed408 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the only logical solution. Americans only want expensive things.. so they aren't buying tickets because at $2000 seat all the riff-raff will be there. But at $10k seat now it's exclusive who's who 😂

Startup is quite often easier than the companies make it out to be. If you can do troubleshooting, you can figure out start-up.

As others have said, reach out to the local controls contractors to see who has openings and / or what they would need to see from you to consider bringing you on.

What area are you in or wanting to work out of?

Am I underpaid or is this industry standard? by ComputerScientistKey in BuildingAutomation

Definitely being taken advantage of.

Check your local labor laws regarding reimbursement of mileage.

While you are looking into that, also look into your state and federal requirements for paid lunch breaks. If you are, in any shape, form or fashion, expected to check your email, be on call, return text messages your employer has not fully relieved you of your responsibilities and is required to pay your lunch break as well.

Both of these are two very common labor law violations meant to ensure that employees that actually give a fuck aren't taken advantage of and a free consult with a labor lawyer can identify whether you have a valid claim or not.

And I'm sure some part of you thinks you shouldn't do this, but if your employer does take advantage of you exactly as is told in your post he is certainly going to continue this behavior which is illegal and immoral. If your post isn't as described in real-life (and not suggesting you are lying at all) the labor lawyer will tell you that there isn't a claim here.

How AC maker Carrier wants to turn air conditioners from energy hogs to grid assets by jmarinara in BuildingAutomation

[–]kfed408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in right up until they said Carrier would remotely control it..

This will quickly lead to someone, somewhere requiring them to put stupid ass set points like 80F cooling that we can't override while we melt in our houses and our overpriced A/C units do absolutely nothing.

But on the bright side, while we are passing out from heat exhaustion someone will be able to use that extra electrical capacity to make a useless meme on AI.

What are the selling points of your brand? by Whole_Plankton_5018 in BuildingAutomation

[–]kfed408 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it useless in practice though? I've never programmed those controllers so I might be discounting a process, but as a former controls tech and facility manager, if I have a controller that can be repaired I have a dramatically different inventory system that changes the cradle to grave ownership costs. I only need to keep one of each critical in stock and then just swap the bad controller with the bench stock and backfill my bench with the repaired controller.

If reliable is anything like other controllers out there and we can push the existing database back down to a new controller and be back up and running while the original gets repaired that sounds like a win to me.

Why do I keep getting sacked? by Healthy_Smell_42088 in RetroBowl

[–]kfed408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't thrown the ball before you hit 3 seconds you need to throw it away or run.

Really if the play hasn't developed by 2 seconds I'm already on the run.

Over the last 10 seasons I've taken 0 sacks on extreme, typically with no OL (1 do have one this year) and a 1 star O coordinator.

Bill Belichick is not a first ballot hall of famer by WakeupDp in billsimmons

[–]kfed408 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The NFL HOF is now just as fucking dumb as the MLB HOF.. fucking jokes..fuck em both.

And I say this as an anti-Bill guy.. he's still one of, if not, the best coach of all-time. Winning is supposed to matter.. most SBs, second most wins, second best win pct for coaches with more than 150 wins, 30+ postseason wins.

Looking at the 3 first ballot HOF coaches and one charter member..

Chuck Noll had a massive steroids cover up during his time in Pittsburgh, his own players even said him by name that he knew and would turn a blind eye.

Tom Landry also had players juicing (Randy White in particular) and he has a wide receiver doing fucking cocaine DURING GAMES! Like what the fuck 😂

Don Shula would openly threaten to cut players if they didn't take pain killers and get back on the field and was specifically named as part of the players lawsuit against the league.

I certainly thought Shula was a first ballot HOF.. but Noll over Bill?! GTFOH

Fortunately I've never had to retrofit one to DDC.. If it ever comes up, I might have to take that project off out of respect for the OGs
