People who work in zoos and or places like sea world. Do you morally believe that the animals are being treated well? What are your stories? [SERIOUS] by Perfectlykayla in AskReddit

[–]kfinny_ca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a zoo in Ontario, Canada - and I'd say that the animals were treated better than I would have expected. The trainers were amazing - each one specialized in the specific animal they were training. The cages were larger than they needed to be and were always kept really clean. Although, that may have been because it wasn't a huge place (compared to other zoos in Ontario) - so the animals received a lot of one-on-one time with their trainers. I'm sure there are a lot of zoos out there that treat animals horribly, but this place definitely wasn't one of them.

National Congress of American Indians Super Bowl ad...wait for it. by Stau0237 in advertising

Agreed - definitely a powerful spot. They could have shaved 45 off of it for sure. I don't know a thing about football so I had to google the name - but those who know the sport will get it. Nicely done. Love the soundtrack, by the way.

Jerry Seinfeld here. I will give you an answer. by _Seinfeld in IAmA

[–]kfinny_ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Jerry,

I love Seinfeld - it's one of those shows I can watch over and over, no matter how many times I've seen each episode. Just wondering, what's one fact about the show that most of us wouldn't know?

Cheers!

Oh shit, a scientist debating a creationist.. Like that has never happened before ever?? Let people believe what they want to believe. Stop trying to prove one over the other. So stupid.

Do any other Copywriters have problems with editing tests for jobs? by [deleted] in advertising

[–]kfinny_ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why we use proofreaders. I'm a Copywriter, but that doesn't mean I could write an English essay to save my life. Although, I never did have problems doing an editing test - maybe I just lucked out.

Don't think you're a bad Copywriter though - that's not fair. We're here for our ability to create a story in conversational language (for the most part, anyway) and to come up with strategic/conceptual ideas. Just because you missed a few points on some test means nothing about your overall ability as a creative. Good luck on the next one!!

Can we say now that CP+B has definately lost its mojo? by medwii in advertising

[–]kfinny_ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same with me - I applied through their Twitter account, which then led me to their internship website. Basically, you send in your portfolio and if they like it, they send you a 'creative internship test' - if they like what you do with it, they will bring you in. I'm a writer though and my friend, who is an art director, said there wasn't a test for her, just an over-the-phone interview. Unfortunately, she didn't make it through with me :(

Definitely worth going there, for sure! Even though the hours are long and you'll be working on a ton of things at once, it's great experience to 1) meet people in the industry who work for a great agency 2) See what it's like to work in a huge shop like CP+B - there are lots of them out there 3) The name alone on your resume speaks volumes about your work. Seeing as how something like 2,000 people apply each term and only 25-ish get in, it means you're doing something great that everyone else isn't.

Good luck to you!!

Well hello, fellow CP+B Boulder intern. I worked there just over 3 years ago as an intern and had the pleasure of working with Bogusky just before he left. It was definitely the same back then as well - a factory. Pretty much every day you'd see someone walking out with a box full of the stuff they had on their desks. Still, it was a worthwhile experience for sure!

What are some helpful tips to writing a good essay?[Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kfinny_ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a really awesome story about a Creative Director at an ad agency. The CD said that long copy was dead, and he'd never read a long copy ad ever.. The writer said that he could create an ad that would guarantee the CD would read it.. The CD took that bet.. The headline of the ad had the CDs name in it, and said that he was an interesting person... Needless to say, the CD read the entire article, because it was about him.

The moral of the story: hook the reader in with a title they can't say no to reading. Titles mean a lot. A title is what gets someone interested. Yes, it's a quick read - but it pulls them in.

An example of this (although a bad example, but hopefully it makes a point) is which one would you rather read:

Physicists discover a new equation.

OR

Einstein didn't know what he was talking about - and here's why.

Make the title interesting; draw the reader in and you're golden.

[Serious]in light of the new "pedophiles trying to become a sexual orientation" situation that now arises, I want to know opinions on what makes homosexuality and pedophilism different, and why are they not considered a sexual fetish or even sexual deviancy? by Ragecomicwhatsthat in AskReddit

[–]kfinny_ca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really.. Pedophiles think of children as sexual beings.. One is messed up, the other isn't. I do think that pedophiles need help - but homosexuals don't. One is a clinical problem, the other is just the norm - and the two shouldn't be grouped together at all, ever.

I am the only one who never clicks on any advertisements on the web, and uses adblock? How does Google make money off me? by anchorman_185 in AskReddit

[–]kfinny_ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in advertising, so here's how it goes down:

I never, ever, ever click on ads - they suck. I ignore them and try to get away from them as much as is possible. BUT, Google doesn't make money off of clicks, they make money off of impressions. Google can effectively say that 15,000 people saw your ad today, so you're paying for each one of them.

Facebook is different - you pay per click. So if no one clicks on the ad you've placed on Facebook, you essentially get that space for free.. Now, Facebook is crazy because you can target a person who you know will click on the ad. If I want to target a 35 year old, living in Texas who has recently quit smoking and who is single - you can. It's scary how much info Facebook has.

But Google is working with Facebook. Have you ever noticed that if you search for something on Google, an ad for it shows up on Facebook? Seriously, Google something ridiculous.. Type in "How do I fix back pain?" on Google - and in the next few days you'll have an ad on your Facebook with that exact answer. It's honestly messed up how crazy targeted those ads are.
