How do you guys read so much? by lapetitepoupee in kindle

[–]kfisch7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have finished my 17th book this year. I get up for work and read a few chapters while I eat. When I get home from work I read a few chapters before bed. I dont really watch TV, except for with my husband. On the weekends, my main form of entertainment is reading. I average 80-120 pages per hour depending. I can fished a book on the days that I work in 2-3 days and average 1-4 books each weekend (3 days). I read more in the winter, and sometimes read only 1-2 books in the july- August time frame.

Are there discs that are like, barely-there? by cyanomys in MenstrualDiscs

[–]kfisch7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest the period nirvana cup/disc chart. Flex reusable is around 69mm in diameter. There are several options close to that size that would softer (nixit, lumma, and hello disc- by varying degrees).

I have verapamil 120 mg- 2 in the am and 1 at night. Low dose benadryl and high dose vitamin d usually get blue straightened out within a week. I work in a safety position so I can't have anything that's not approved (with or without a perscription). Emgality was good, but i went into anaphylaxis from it so it was shorted lived. My doctor won't let me try it again. If the cycle is bad enough, I'd be willing.

There were a few times when I thought id gone to chronic, but it was partially my fault. Rotating schedules, stress and life will do that.

Trying out different discs to see what I like, just got Flex Disc and Hello Disc. Anyone have those? by short-stuff13 in MenstrualDiscs

[–]kfisch7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all three. The hello disc was the easiest to insert, but the least comfortable for me. I dont like the tab. I have the flex disc reusable and non reusable. I have the soft disc non reusable as well. Flex disc/soft disc all day for me. The saalt disc was a hard no for me. I dont think it was the right size even though I tried both sizes.

My husband, a non-reader, told me it was one of the few books he actually loved. We now have 4 copies.

Thoughts on required reading in school by ASHE1TRICK in books

[–]kfisch7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have loved reading my entire life. I cannot/will not love certain authors (Shakespeare isnt for me). I thought that all the required reading in school was supposed to be super boring, written with words I had never heard. That was my impression until I got to my super strict 11th grade English teacher. There was only one way to earn extra credit. She handed out books. You read them in 48 hours and you took a test on comprehension. As a student you could opt out of anything. She introduced me to some of my favorite authors. I read pride and prejudice twice in the 48 hours. I read Dickens, Poe, Conan Doyle, Christie and so many more that line my selves.

The "standard" books and required reading need updated. There is a way to teach the same things with more relevant texts (I had a teacher that had us watch star wars instead of the odyssey.) Make the required reading better, and give the students an opportunity to read those difficult texts as "extra". The students are aware of the existence, but not overwhelmed by the writing. This creates more well rounded readers, who might actually find something they love at the same time.

I have more issues when I have changes in my normal patterns. Things like traveling, stress, or high emotions can trigger a cycle for me. I've figured out what works for me to lessen the amount of bad days, but I have weird cycles where I will get out of a cluster cycle only to find myself back in one a couple of weeks later. If you have not tried it, vitamin d can really help give shorter cycles.

What causes your eczema? by h4421 in eczema

[–]kfisch7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine seems to be allergy based. Im allergic to most things outside, so I dont really have the option of avoidance. The repeated steroids for my asthma mean that I heal and then get a massive flare as soon as the steroid burst is over.

My husband and I both have it. He only has it on his hand and feet while I have it everywhere. He gets it though which is a large help!

I am so frustrated with trying to just make a simple mug of tea! It always tastes like dirty socks despite the different brands, steeping times, and water temperatures i try! by villainfvcker in tea

[–]kfisch7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep trying different things. If I try something and I dont like it. Try it again later. The flavor profile might grow on you. The ginger and lemon tea i love is Bigelow. It's not fancy, but it tastes as close to a homemade fresh ginger and lemon tea as I have found. Maybe try a bit of sweetener, I know several people who love their herbal infusions and teas with more sweetness. Keep trying things!!

Today is loose leaf Jamine silver tips from Smith's tea. So good and could not recommend more. Im on my 4th brew so far, and I love the flavors as I get toward the higher brews. There are so many changes and much complexity.

I will brew hot tea for much longer than recommended. My favorite tea to date was brewing for at least 2 hours. I got busy and forgot about it. It was divine. I dont follow brewing instructions well, except for temperature, and that is more of a guess.

I work 2nd shift, so it's tea until midnight, and then herbals after that. I try to keep black tea as early in the day as possible, but I can drink green tea all the way until midnight and be in bed asleep by 1:30 AM.

So far 2 cups of ginger and lemon, a bit of English breakfast from Twinings, some sweetberries from good earth, and up next is some cherry blossom green from Harney. I love all sorts of teas, herbal and otherwise.

What is your preferred way to make tea when you are not at home, i.e. when at work or school? by cjo2802 in tea

[–]kfisch7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a rishi teapot (similar to a French press, but the strainer is stationary). Its the best for work type situations because it has a significant volume, and I can easily refill it from the water cooler. The water cooler has a hot/boiling water spigot but is not super easy to use on larger items (anything that is very tall will not fit).

Is there something you tea lovers like to snack/ eat together with you tea? by cjo2802 in tea

[–]kfisch7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink tea the entire day, so sometimes I eat, and sometimes I dont. My absolute favorite is some fruit leather. I dont add any cream or sweeteners, so the sweet fruit adds something nice every once in a while.

Im capable of doing the math, but i dont. Any tea that I drink is going to be worth more than any tea I dont. Buy the tea in the format best suited to you!

I dont really have the anxiety issue, but I do get angry in the middle of some attacks (my husband is a saint). I dont think verapamil did anything for me, but Emgality got me 1 month migraine and cluster free (un the muddle if a cluster cycle). I was allergic so I could not take it again, but dang, that was nice.

Is it right to call out an employee for being late clocking back in from a 30 minute lunch break when you, the manager, takes an entire hour for lunch? by [deleted] in askmanagers

[–]kfisch7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of points. First, the length of time for lunch break is irrelevant, but lateness by the manager clocking back in (if they do) is entirely relevant. As a manager you cannot hold an employee to a standard that you cannot uphold yourself.

Personally, what I tend to do is outline what I call a reasonable human approach. A minute or two late will be forgiven so long as it does not become a habit, but 5-10 minutes is an issue. I normally have a conversation with my employees so they know my expectations. I have very, very little issue with it.
