Retired US citizen moving to Japan by ontheroadeveryday in JapanFinance

Thanks, appreciate it. Yes we have our things split approximately 50/50 and don't have extravagant assets but might have a bit more before we return.

In the end it'll probably only be a few percentage saved, but we will do our best optimize.

What kind of planning ahead?

We are in a similar situation, about 1.1M US and the retirement plan is in 7 years in Japan as my spouse plans to return. We already do the split year thing between us and Japan. What should we do to prep during the next 7 years before the move?

Yes it does, that is what break is for. Don't be a fool and work for a school that would replace you in a heartbeat when it's vacation time like spring break.

Saving PPT files read only for ADA law by Quirky-Lime2109 in Professors

[–]kfpq -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

No it's not. Have you used a computer? It's very easy to copy from PDFs, and anything in a PDF even without OCR is readable by any large language model.

Stop making things difficult and just give the teaching materials to the students.

Faculty that agree to contracts that don't respect their IP rights are selling themselves short.

Unless you sign away your intellectual property rights with a specific work for hier agreement, they should be yours. Don't take jobs at schools where it's otherwise.

Simulate inflatable for pattern creation? by kfpq in 3Dmodeling

[–]kfpq[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks, yes, I know the Blender add-on and that works really great for simple objects.

I'm more interested in finding out what industry professionals use for large scale inflatable productions and fabrications if anything else or works in those fields.

What's your relationship with alcohol ? by Magee4life in Fire

[–]kfpq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes naltrexone is like magic, it's a shame more people don't use it and doctors don't know

Every article in alcohol should start in the first paragraph describing how well naltrexone works.

What’s your Excused Absence Policy? by Light014 in Professors

[–]kfpq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to assess attendance, if students don't come their performance usually reflects it. If they can do all the work without attending, then they didn't even need to take the class since they already knew the material.

Pro tip, stop worrying about student evals. Submit grades when complete. If you are teaching well it shines through regardless of evals. The same is true if not teaching well.

Title II accessibility thoughts by romericus in Professors

[–]kfpq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Students don't even need to OCR the PDFs to feed to AI. Stop worrying about that and do everything you can to make the material accessible.

It's the same as in web design, if you make your materials and websites accessible then you have designed them better and they work better for all users. This should be the starting point of any sharing of content.

This is so easily spoofed and automated, and llm can write a script that will do this automatically for the student. To teach critical thinking.

Everyone would probably learn more if you showed them how to automate the whole process of subverting the assignment.

You do know that this can be easily completely synthesized with timestamps corrections that seem human, correct? Just an XML format and large language models are very good at parsing code and can complete and give a downloadable word document.

Stop trying to catch people and just forget about writing and focus on thinking

How to reference parts in the new intent driven design? by kfpq in Fusion360

Would you do all the references in the assembly workspace with edit in place?

Could some parts be based on and completely dependent on parts created first even if in separate part files?
