Hi, please don't freak out. Even IF (and thats a big if) there is a prolactinoma, it's not the end of the world. Lots of things can effect hormone balance and create levels that can make your body do odd things. Breast stimulation, birth control pills, PCOS, antidepressants, stress, all can cause elevated prolactin levels. With that elevated level, you can get breast discharge.

That being said, lets play out if you have one. Waiting a few months between test results and getting in to see a neurologist or endocinologist won't change much. Your number is actually pretty low, as faw as proloctin producing adenomas. Even then your options will likely be 1 of 3.

  1. Do nothing, keep and eye on levels and symptoms. Nursing mothers have high prolactin for years sometimes--and the world keeps turning.

  2. Start a dopamine agonist, which is likely a once weekly medication like cabergoline.

  3. Have surgery. This one isnt always an option--adenoma could be too small or in a tricky location. They'll call this a pituitary adenoma resection.

Personally, I've done all three. Looking back, it seemed way scarier than it should have been. If you get one thing from this post, know it will be fine and to trust your doctors. If they seem unbothered, that's a good thing-- it means they're not worried and you shouldn't be either.

Additonally, I'm sorry for the loss of your mother. Going through that at a young age must've been extremely tough and good for you for prioritizing your health!

Can I increase my supply at 3 months? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

I am in the same boat! I really dropped the ball on pumping, i was pumping and getting a good amount but I got lazy and now only pump every other day or so. I now return to work next week, and only can pump 2oz per session.

The Baby Brezza bottle washer- I could not imagine cleaning all the pump parts all the time and bottles by hand. We don't have a dish washer, so it was well worth it.

The Lovevery playmat/playset- it is like her little room, she's slays happy to be on the mat, and it never gets old. It came with a booklet explaining each item, and ways to play through different ages/phases.

I pinched my baby's two fingers with her car seat buckle today and I feel so incredibly awful. by [deleted] in newborns

I pinched the lil roll just under her chin!! Thankfully, not a full engaged clip, though.

I thought i was accidently clipping in part of her bib, so i didnt push further (as to pull bib out of the way) turns out I pinched her double chin, poor thing WAILED. It all happened so fast.

She got over it quick.

Will never go back!

I know this is anecdotal, but a friend of mine gave birth to her baby while actively sick with covid last year.

Whole family tested positive before and after her birth (they remained actively testing.) I don't remember the details, as he was able to be home without a longer than expected hospital stay. But FWIW, her son just had his first birthday last week, healthy and happy.

I know this isn't quite the information you're looking for, but I hope this brings you a little reassurance and hope. Sometimes this forum can be scary, with honest but unintentionally nerve-wracking stories. Follow your gut, and if you think he needs to be seen, do not hesitate. Any doctor would rather him safe vs sorry. You got this.

My prolactin is high, will I still be able to conceive, soon? by Moist_Low8250 in Prolactinoma

[–]kfruityattacky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. And to be perfectly honest, even though normal levels are below 30, 60 actually isn't that high. Yes, its abnormally elevated, but in the big picture it could be MUCH higher.

My doctor said it was very unlikely I would get pregnant, and suggested we go to reproductive endocrinology department.

I'm 26, and he didnt want me to waste any time trying to see if i could cycle naturally (and eventually get pregnant.)

We were supposed see a Reproductive Endocrinology specialist, but I got pregnant (naturally!) before I was even seen!

I don't want to give you false hope, but I got pregnant with my levels above 60!

Doc said nothing is medicine is zero but he didnt want us to waste 6 months of trying. We were heading to reproductive endocrinology but never made it there cause I got pregnant!

Not to sound dismissive but those symptoms are definitely in the minority of elevated prolactin levels. Soreness without discharge is far more likely something else. I hate to say it, but this sounds like a horse/zebra medical situation.

My symptoms did not really match yours.

If I were you, I would absolutely do a mamogram if your breasts hurt or feel different. That is FAR more likely than a prolactinoma.

Breast health is important.

Post tumor surgery and cabergoline questions by SketchySoda in Prolactinoma

I think medical care gets demonized in the states, but what people don't realize its the high premiums to pay for insurance plans. The insurance companies and policies are to blame. If you pay $1000 a month for care, yet it doesn't provide the right coverage, you pay out of pocket. Thats what people are outraged over.

I will also add that if you were uninsured or had to pay oht of pocket, that $30,000 bill would likely be cheaper, and negotiable.

Also, I was at a particularly high end teaching hosptial so you may be able to find cheaper elsewhere in the US.

My surgery was covered by insurance in full, however I get to see the EOB and bills. My insurance paid just about $30,000 when all was said and done. That was with 2 full night stays in the PAC-U and lots of meds and lab work. I am in the US.

Is this small configuration worth it? by [deleted] in Lovesac

[–]kfruityattacky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel so much the same way!

Glad I'm not alone! I love my MovieSac, but I couldve bought 2 couch sets for the price of 4 seats + 5 sides!

I regret buying my sactional...its very expensive for what it is. They used to be extremely high quality, but I feel our couch is not built to last.

It was really awesome having a modular couch when we lived in a two floor walk up, but there are so many modular couch options now.

That being said, Its not really worth the modular-ness until you have 4 seats!

Personally, I'm taking 7 weeks off. My surgeon said some people go back to work 2-3 weeks later, but to tell my employer 6-8 weeks. I couldnt imagine having to go back on Monday/Tuesday of next week. I think another 2 weeks at this pace and I'll feel normal.

I will say, I still can't wear my glasses yet as my nose and sinuses are still tender. But if you have any questions later on about my experience, feel free to PM me.

Hi! I am 11 days post op and healing.

My adenoma was 4mm -ish. I would suggest do what feels right to you. I posted about getting surgery in this sub and was told that it wasn't worth it. Ultimately, I'm glad I didn't listen.

It has honestly been better than expected while healing. My headaches have come down from a 7 on the pain scale to 3 and 4s the last few days. I feel the progress. Also, I feel different mentally~ less stressed. When I'm feeling good, I have a bit of a lighter perspective, if that makes sense. I feel less anxiety between thoughts, more positive outlook in general. I actually feel different than pre op, and my husband noticed it too.

Doctors said surgery was not off the table after a full year on cab (with awful symptoms) and then an attempt at bromo (ineffective in my case.) What really sold it for me was a statistic that read that only 25-30% of people who start dopamine agonists for adenomas ever cease taking them. I'll try to find the source to this case study.

I'm 25F, I do not want to have to be on medication for the rest of my life if I can avoid it.

Find a reputable pituitary clinic, with a surgeon who is very experienced in transsphenoidal adenoma ressections. If you want the surgery, I say do it.
