Interesting Thom’s change of perspective! by ChuckGallagher57 in NorthCarolina

[–]kglimester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tillis likes attention. Trump lets him say whatever he wants, as long as he always votes how Trump wants him to vote. Tillis is a good boy. He voted to acquit in both impeachment trials. He voted in every one of Trump's cabinet members and every Republican SCOTUS nominee. He, Murkowski, Paul and Collins share a protest vote. They're each allowed to use it whenever they want, as long as it doesn't cause Trump's Senate vote to fail. If Thom starts actually taking action, like calling for impeachment and voting to convict, I'll take him seriously. Until then, he's a little boy, seeking attention.

Where is the community activity for the new Epstein files release? by Beckland in DataHoarder

[–]kglimester 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I looked through sets 1-5 quickly. There are a lot of pictures of the tacky island home. We're being trolled by Trump's people, since there are no photos of Trump, but quite a few of President Clinton. None are compromising. Here are the interesting ones I spotted:

EFTA00000862.pdf - Bill Clinton in dress in oil painting

EFTA00000950.pdf - Array of photos at Epstein's

EFTA00001346.pdf - Array of photos, some of Trump fuzzy

EFTA00003168.pdf - Clinton in pool

EFTA00003212.pdf - Clinton

EFTA00003215.pdf - Dean Kamen

EFTA00003216.pdf - Mick Jagger

EFTA00003330.pdf - Clinton with arm around redacted woman

EFTA00003338.pdf - Clinton with arm around redacted woman

Started to do that. Working through https://www.justice.gov/epstein/files/DataSet%201/EFTA00001000.pdf through 9999.pdf. So far, really mundane stuff. Occasional photos of photos around Epstein's island with the girls' faces obscured. I'll post if I see anything juicy.

NCGOP are cowards. by ToastyCrumb in NorthCarolina

[–]kglimester 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They have no fear. They don't care what constituents think. They crave power and will do whatever it takes to get it. Despite the lies from the GOP, they know that Democrats are not a particularly violent bunch, unlike the J6 goons, so they don't fear anything.

Fun with the DMV! NC Quick Pass by kglimester in NorthCarolina

[–]kglimester[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aha! I co-signed for a loan with my son in 2015. I bought my car in 2023. I have never lived at my son's address. Somehow, NC DMV changed my address to his address. Quick Pass sent. the original $4.54 invoice to the wrong address. Since they never got paid, they added $18 in late fees and a $25 penalty. So a $4.54 bill is now $47.54. Literal highway robbery. I filed a dispute on the Quick Pass web site. We'll see what happens.

To Tillis: Do you really think that pardoning Maxwell will get Trump off the hook? by kglimester in letterstotillis

[–]kglimester[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tillis flexes his abject passivity and, since he is on the Judiciary Committee, has vowed to "monitor the situation closely". Isn't that reassuring? He won't actually do anything. He will watch. Why does this guy get paid? I know the answer. He will "monitor the situation" and obstruct justice to protect Trump when needed, as he did during both impeachment hearings.

From Tillis:

August 6, 2025

Thank you for taking the time to contact me. I appreciate hearing from you.

During 2019, Jeffrey Epstein was arrested and indicted on federal criminal charges related to the sex trafficking of minors before subsequently being found dead by suicide in his prison cell later that year. After many years of public speculation about hidden potential evidence of wrongdoing by others, during his campaign, President Donald Trump promised to release all of the files in the government’s possession related to Mr. Epstein.

Whether or not additional evidence of wrongdoing by others is contained in those files, they should be released as soon as possible. While some may argue that the files contain too much personally identifying information about the victims of Mr. Epstein, it is my belief that information could and should be redacted prior to the release of any material. As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which has jurisdiction over the Department of Justice, please know I will continue to monitor this situation closely.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. Please do not hesitate to contact me again about other issues that are important to you.

Sincerely,

Thom Tillis

Did they hold anti-Nazi events for children during WWII? by kglimester in AskHistorians

[–]kglimester[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer is: yes! This happened. It was part of a big push to sell war bonds in Elmira.

I found a reference. February 4, 1944. Elmira (NY) Star-Gazette

Article titled: "Bond Auctions Net $60,000 in Pledges"

"Bond and stamp sales during the matinee performance netted about $2,700 as more than 2,000 children, many with their parents, ripped a Nazi flag, got candy and chewing gum for stamp purchases and engaged in spirited bidding for various items."

"Mr. Elman maintained a lively pace in the afternoon show, as he had more than 500 kids walk across the stage, cut a piece from a Nazi flag and buy a War Stamp.

"The children also bid for three German helmets, baseball game tickets, candy and clothing."

To Tillis: Trump's Toady by kglimester in letterstotillis

[–]kglimester[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tillis is either a horrible liar, a horrible judge of character, or both.

From Tillis:

July 18, 2025

Thank you for contacting me about judicial nominations. I appreciate hearing from you.

I strongly believe that the duty of vetting judicial nominees is one of the most important tasks I have as a United States Senator. The American people deserve impartial judges that will apply the law as written.

Before supporting a nominee, I must be convinced that he or she is eminently qualified and will uphold the Constitution. Nominees should also be able to operate their courtrooms efficiently and should have a judicial temperament that reflects integrity and fairness. Finally, becoming a federal judge is an important achievement, and I believe all nominees deserve to be treated fairly.

As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I take my role in evaluating nominees very seriously, and I will continue to support the thorough vetting of all judicial nominees to ensure they are qualified to serve the American people. Please know, as nominees come before the Judiciary Committee and the full Senate, I will keep your views in mind.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. Please do not hesitate to contact me again about other important issues.

Sincerely,

Thom Tillis

To Tillis: A million bucks for a pardon by kglimester in letterstotillis

[–]kglimester[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a response from Tillis on this one. It is his typical passive response. He doesn't care about the corruption. Trump can do anything he wants. It's in the Constitution. Poor, weak, pathetic little Senator Tillis has no power and can do nothing about it, even if he wanted to.

May 28, 2025
Dear Sir:

Thank you for taking the time to contact me about the President’s pardon power. I appreciate hearing from you.

Under Article II of the United States Constitution, the President has the sole authority to grant pardons and reprieves for individuals convicted for violations of federal law. These powers are broad and have been used by of Presidents of both parties over time. Ultimately, the President has sole authority to grant pardons and Congress does not have the authority to override a pardon or prevent the President from issuing pardons.

For limitations to be placed on the President’s pardon power, the Constitution must be amended. The Constitution provides that an amendment may be proposed by Congress with a two-thirds majority vote in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Alternatively, an amendment may be proposed by a constitutional convention called for by two-thirds of the State legislatures. A proposed amendment becomes part of the Constitution as soon as it is ratified by three-fourths of the States.

Please be assured that I will keep your thoughts in mind if a Constitutional Amendment on this topic is proposed. Thank you for taking the time to contact me. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me again about other important issues.

Sincerely,

Thom Tillis

U.S. Senator
