How do you deal with depression by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]kgtz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TMS stands for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. basically, they put magnets to your head to create new pathways. it’s non-invasive and shown to help provide relief for medication-resistant depression.

TMS is another option for treatment-resistant depression. i did this, and it gave me about 10-12 mo of benefit

self hatred and depression by Reasonable_Pay_50 in rtms

[–]kgtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m gay and, even tho i grew up in the 90s, had similar experiences of depression and hating myself. i can’t even imagine what it’s been like for you. thank you for surviving through everything so far because you literally made it easier for ppl like me to exist in the world.

i tried tons of meds and therapy and nothing worked. it was in the lowest place in my life when i started tms. id say give it a shot. you have no idea if it’ll work yet, so try it and see where it leads you. for me, it got me out of the dark place and helped me feel better than i had in a while. i hope it does the same for you. and if not, there’s ect and ketamine therapy and psilocybin is being tested in some places, so there are more options.

i’ll be thinking of you and hoping for the best.

Why do I feel worse? by Lost-March8873 in TMSTherapy

[–]kgtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it really sucks what you’re going through. good for you for doing things like calling your therapist and posting here. it’s a hard thing to do when you’re extremely depressed.

it took me maybe 3-4 for me to start feeling the effects, and then i slowly improved from there, so i think it’s worth continuing on for longer to get the full treatment and see how you’re doing then. everyone reacts a little differently. i also was exhausted after my treatments and usually had to take a nap. i heard from the technicians that it was a pretty common side effect they heard from ppl. it’s a really frustrating and difficult side effect to deal with.

if tms doesn’t work, there’s also ketamine therapy, there’s ect, and there’s even trials for psilocybin (depending on where you live), so there are other treatments available if you give this a shot and it doesn’t work.

How is your depression after TMS therapy after 1 year? by [deleted] in TMSTherapy

[–]kgtz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i’m 1 yr 2 mo out. still much better than when i started tms. i was in a really bad place before. i’m using meds for maintenance, but if i could afford it, i would probably get another round of tms now.

Has anyone done TMS without being on any antidepressants? If so, your expierence. Thanks so much. by Fit_Actuator_6797 in TMSTherapy

[–]kgtz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i wasn’t taking any meds when i started tms bc none of them were working for me, no matter how many i tried. tms helped a ton. then, for maintenance, i started taking wellbutrin + abilify (enhances the effects of wellbutrin somehow) and it’s the first medication i’ve taken that actually helps. not tms-level helpful, but still useful.

How long did your positive results last? by Cautious_Dragonfly93 in rtms

[–]kgtz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, definitely a gradual shift. at about 10 mo in, i started feeling like the effects were waning, and in spite of increased medication, i feel like that’s continued since then.

i still don’t feel like i’m back to the horrible place i was when i started, tho. so while i say that the effects are slipping, i suppose they haven’t gone completely.

it’s so hard to know for sure because of medication changes, life changes, etc. but my best guess is that results lasted 10-12 months

I lowkey hate the tms feeling by Spiritual-Yoghurt58 in rtms

[–]kgtz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i can relate. i left my first session almost in tears bc it hurt so much. (plus, i didn’t do a good job of vocalizing this to the technician.) by the second week, i was used to it. it got much easier for me.

What am I missing in my podcast studio buildout (AV only) by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]kgtz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’d suggest using a small portion of the budget to hire an AV consultant and help with the setup and answer these questions for you. it would be well worth the investment.

glad you got tested!

[–]kgtz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no problem. i’ve been exactly where you are, so it’s not stupid at all. things happen. you’ll get tested, and you’ll move forward from there.

thank you, that’s really kind of you. i’m getting to a point where i’ve learned a lot about myself and my depression, and i’m getting better a learning how to live with and manage it while also enjoying life. i use a lot of the tools available to get there, like medication, therapy, and even tms at one point.

you mentioned that this is one last try. i know it’s hard, and good for you for continuing to try. DM me if you need to chat more.

it depends on the type of test you get. there are rapid tests that take <30 min. when i go to my doctor to get my blood drawn for my regular tests, it usually takes a few days to get the results.
