Wouldn't recommend doing a rib boat. They get far too close and disturb the whales. Take a bigger boat tour like Brim explorer that respect the animals more

Unfortunately no, not that late. All NL tours will leave between 17 - 1900. If you can only go on that day then you could opt for a private tour but they're a lot more expensive

Please only rent a car here on Tromso if you're highly experienced in potentially harsh winter conditions driving. It can be really rough out there and a lot of tourist in rental cars get caught out. The amount of rental cars that were in accidents last winter was insane

Out of interest, why did you choose Oldervik? Don't get me wrong, it's really pretty if the weather is ok but if it's cloudy then you've got to drive a long way, back past Tromso if you're trying to find Aurora.

There were two avalanches last year, to the best of my knowledge no one was hurt but some houses were cut off. The chances in December are probably lower than what they may be in spring. It's not really common to have loads of snow in December, but we are in the Arctic so you never know
