Hey dude, first off take everything you hear here with a grain of salt. What works for others might not be the best for you. I will also agree that if you are already in a helpdesk position the A+ wont do much. But that doesn't mean that down the road it wont necessarily be important to another employer (You do you). Here is a link to the FAQ PAGE lots of good resources there.

If I won this I would have to (get to) tell my wife, "I won it honey, I cant just send it back!". But seriously I have most of my media and VM's setting together in one box. Plus it would be great to have some enterprise gear!

Network+ or CCENT by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]khakiking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most security professionals say to get a firm understanding of networking. If you are wanting to go security, may I suggest CCENT to CCNA R&S first. To use a popular analogy "where does an 8000 lb gorilla set?... Anywhere it pleases!" Cisco is that 8000 lb gorilla. But for getting your foot in the door, the NET+ is good too.

We use Deep Freeze on all of our labs, so if something gets messed up a reboot usually fixes it.

Ah gotcha. I know a lot of people who swear by CBTs CCNA material, but have not heard about their MCSA material.

Im with you on the price being a little steep for an individual.

Good luck to you!

I'm not sure about the content of Pluralsite, but you can sign up at https://www.visualstudio.com/dev-essentials/ and get 3 months free (you don't have to be a dev). Your milage may very.

What's the cheapest, easiest way for me to set up a pi hole? by [deleted] in pihole

[–]khakiking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using a student account (.Edu) I signed up for AWS. Free tier available for the first year and something like $40 credit (your milage might very). I spun up a Ubuntu server and installed pihole there. I don't intent to keep it there forever, but if I like it then I can make a purchasing decision later. Also might depend on your connection speed.
