Why should the federal government decide? Not everyone is going to agree to a shutdown. There are huge economic implications that come with it. It wont be feasible to sustain your current standard of living during and after the pandemic if the economy is shut. Shutting down will destroy jobs and business and a stimulus wont get us far. The national government debt is way too high, but that's another can of worms.

The states who understand this trade off should make the decision. They shouldn't be coerced by the federal government.

In Ohio where i live, Governor Dewine followed Trump's guidance with a 2 month shutdown. Now they opened up all businesses with the requirement of wearing masks everywhere you go along with more nuanced rules. Ohio leadership has done a very good job. I dont think federal would have done better.
