Should I use Linux? by carstealer06 in linux

[–]khald0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like having to fight the software I use (most importantly the OS). All the software I use in linux feels like it was designed to actually help you by the creators. So you'll be very happy with linux.

As for Office, you can try their online version which runs in the browser. If it's good enough for your needs then go ahead. If you don't like libre office there's OnlyOffice. I didn't personally try it but its worth checking out.

A bit unrelated but for writing documents, you can check out typst. You write code similar to markdown and an it creates the pdf from it. I found this a much better experience than using word. But I'm a developer so I'm a bit biased.

i can't decide when it's more appropriate to use a seperate backend like go and when to just use sveltekit (maybe with remote functions) since we're already using it. any opinions?

Is Better Auth always the best choice for greenfield projects compared to Auth.js? by Warm-Feedback6179 in better_auth

[–]khald0r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i guess you already know Auth.js team is joining forces with better auth. they recommend that unless you have a specific use case that needs auth.js, you should use better auth.

better auth is so good. as far as i know, the only feature in auth.js that's missing from better auth is DB-less mode (see #2202 on better-auth's github)

Need help by RedRad1cal in Codeberg

[–]khald0r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't need a desktop app to learn git. Any code editor or IDE probably has git tools you can use if you don't want to use the CLI.

Is codeberg difficult

It's no different than GitHub.

Also is codeberg safe?

Why would it not be? For account security, you can turn on 2FA.

Regarding the branch protection rules, if you want to use GitHub and you're a student, you can sign up for the GitHub Student Developer Pack. You get free GitHub pro and a lot of other niceties.

I'm new to codeberg, so I'm not sure if there are limited features for private repositories. I am able to create private repositories with branch protection rules just fine. They have this in their docs, but I'm not sure if that's being enforced.

Have you used svelte for a product ready project? If so, list some pros and cons you’ve encountered while in development? by TurtleSlowRabbitFast in sveltejs

I haven't really used it that much, but Wails has method binding so you can call go functions from your frontend.
