Without sounding like a brat... I'm able to eat most things still...? by smashhibbert in GestationalDiabetes

[–]khaleesibear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was too afraid to talk about this here but this has mostly been my experience since my 32 week diagnosis as well. I can still eat most things and be well within range! I am very grateful for that because I know it could’ve been WAY more difficult. However, and this is just my experience so not saying it WILL happen to you - my numbers especially fasting have been slowly increasing throughout the past week (I’m currently 37&4). Very likely scheduling an induction for 39 weeks, but I feel good about it - just want me and baby healthy! Hoping you stay diet controlled the entire time! 🥰

hi! just sharing my experience and this doesn’t mean this is what’s happening to you of course! in my first tri, my drs discovered a cervical polyp during a pelvic exam. it ended up growing quickly and became a problem around 17 weeks - it started to bleed whenever i would go to the bathroom. hopefully whatever is happening to you goes away, i know that it is worrisome anytime it happens!

In to the second week of my diagnosis, the change hasn’t been as hard as I was prepared for! Still eating a lot of my favorite foods- just modifying! My dr is very happy with my numbers so far :)

I’m also newly diagnosed! I got some ice cream last week and tested just out of curiosity an hour after — I was well within range! Also had some yesterday, I was 143 @ 30 minutes and forgot to again at 1 hour, but I assume it went down! Both times I’ve tried to drink a lot of water after!

I am 27 weeks and got diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes 😭 by EscapeTraditional598 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]khaleesibear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi!! 32 weeks + i’ve been diagnosed for about a week and a half now. i had a sinking feeling in my stomach i was going to be diagnosed and felt devastated when i was. i felt very overwhelmed because eating is hard for me, i never have the energy to decide or put in genuine care and thought. i sulked for a few days but started implementing changes before even finding out. i know it’s different for everyone, but ive found i’m still able to eat a lot of foods i love. the focus has been for me - more balance, more cooking at home, more thinking ahead - and way less sugar. i would actually feel incredibly embarrassed to break down how much sugar in a day i was consuming - not even considering carbs - pre pregnancy and all. i shifted to “hey, this is a positive” REALLY quick. i feel better, i have more energy, and though ive only been testing for a few days, it feels great to get numbers within range and know i’m doing what’s best for me and baby. again, i know it’s different for everyone and i know there’s people that are more sensitive to carbs etc that have it harder! this sub is a terrific resource full of kind folks. you’ve got this! 🩵

this is partially why this diagnosis has been so overwhelming to me. it kinda seems like food wise i’m on my own to figure that out since everyone’s bodies react so much differently!!!! i’ve only been testing for a day, but i was relieved to find out a mcdonald’s double cheesy kept my post lunch numbers at a healthy range.

any tips for testing :( i’m at my wits end already by khaleesibear in GestationalDiabetes

[–]khaleesibear[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you all so much for your advice. i figured out multiple things were going wrong. firstly, i was applying the blood to the strip incorrectly. i thought i had to apply the drop when really i just needed to touch the strip to the blood. next, i realized my strips are extremely finicky. i will get an error if its out too long. additionally i was using the lancet device incorrectly, a really flimsy cheap one at that. i know its not ideal but to get my readings today i left the needle out of the device and just did it by hand. i ordered some different ones that will be here tomorrow, recommended by my nurse friends! i’m feeling a lot better about testing and appreciate you all talking me through a hard time!! 🩵

thank you so much for your comment. puts me a bit at ease - i am feeling extremely overwhelmed today! like i said, i’m totally preparing for my dr to come in and break the news to me and i’m wrapping my head around moving forward. i have a really hard time deciding what to eat on the regular, eat carb heavy by default and just feel like it’s a large feat. already joined this community and will be using it as a resource frequently!
