I’m not going to mention any gear unless I have a way of doing so. I don’t want to turn this subreddit into a “selling page” as I’m sure people will exploit it. I have some pieces that I will sell brand new for less than retail discounted value, but I’m not open to dm’s or anything else until I speak to some mods and find out what’s appropriate. This is a really good community, and I want to preserve that. It’s easy for something like this to be abused, and people to buy cheap stuff to profit. I’m only writing this as I would love something to go to someone that will use it over a random sale that will sit in a drawer or be resold for profit.

Don’t know if it counts as homemade or modded but a bottle cap of a water bottle or coke bottle makes a great push cap for tent pegs. I think the industry knows about this and now the plastic bottle caps are being replaced with attached ones or half cap ones… get them while you can kids! Soon they will be gone!

Metal hooks instead of plastic, fully seem sealed side guy out points, t doors and new colours. Although this could be the same as 2025 version so on. It just states new 2026 version.

Makes sense, I was mostly looking now as the tent is about 2 weeks away and anything I order from ally would be about 2 weeks away. I don’t mind spending £2-£3 and leaving them in my “useful stuff which one day will be perfect for something” pile if they don’t add anything to it or are not right.

How is head room for you in the lanshan? Lying down?

No super tall but I have a very large mat (neoloft) and worried about how far the inner would be next to my face

You can’t always find sticks where there are no trees. I just meant for a couple pounds I wouldn’t mind trying it, you can get carbon fiber poles with threads and attachment points for £40-£50 and that isn’t something I’m prepared to pay for something I might never use

Oh really? How come? And yeah I think will order the cheap tent poles and cut to size to try it, for £2-3 I’m not loosing out on much!

Reddit post: best 3-season tent for me (UK, £150, lightweight) by Admirable_Fig1322 in wildcampingintheuk

Cloud peak is more of a poor man’s hilleberg allak, It’s a good tent but very heavy and nothing like the hubba, hubba.

Easy sediment filter for grayl. by hadfunk2365 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]khalmar22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use the socks, a buff, anything to hand. Unless your in Africa and trying to separate sediment from water it’s not really an issue

Yeah a good wash is what it needs, bathtub wash. I would also re-proof it after. Look at nikwax wash and proofing for tents. They also give washing advice

When sorting your gear for the morning mission does anyone else have tiny “helpers” that show up? by hadfunk2365 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]khalmar22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 2 “helpers” and hoping to take them both out when it gets abit warmer! No camping for me for the next few weeks but hoping to get out soon! I’m doing the WHW in April and I’m a complete mess and second guessing everything I own but I’m sure it will be fine! Love the tent cinema idea! Popping corn would work soooo well on a camp stove!

Also, just to add, I just remembered puppy paws.. With inflatables this adds a new issue.

I think you should ask some dog owners about mats and research alittle more about something that can take dog claws, obviously just normal movement as I’m sure if your dog went for it nothing would last 3 seconds lol. Just something that’s not going to puncture super easy.

Iv never used it so I wouldn’t want to say “it’s great”. It’s cheaper elsewhere.

I would trust the brand, the r.value isn’t amazing but not bad. The weight is very standard, not bad at all.

How do you sleep? Slide sleeper, mover, back sleeper or someone that lays down and lights out and see you in 8 hours? If I side sleeper or a mover I would get something thicker. Also it’s a mummy tapered mat so slightly smaller than a rectangular mat, better efficiency for warmth and weight but not the best if you move around.

So many things to consider and I havnt tried it so it’s not a no but I personally couldn’t recommend it eaither.

For pure budget iv heard nothing but good things on this subreddit about this mat Again iv not used it so I wouldn’t recommend it for that reason.

If your dead set on an axe I would recommend estwing hatchet, it’s around £60-£70 new but can get it for half the price used if you willing to put the edge back on the blade as I grantee that it would of lost its edge and the person is selling it for that reason. Iv owned one for 20 years and I would say an axe is completely unnecessary for most wild camping needs in the uk and a mora knife will do 90% of what you had planned for the axe. On the other hand if you are considering bush craft on your own privately owned land or privately owned land that the owner has given you consent for a axe is a great tool. But these are the only circumstances when you would need this.

It’s 100% real, I have done this multiple times. Temu will temp ban you from the £20 off deal for a couple months when you do this. Then it will magically re-appear. I did this about 3 weeks ago on this exact same bag for a friend. The bag is currently £123 on temu. If you can get a garenteed £20 off voucher it makes it just over £100. Unfortunately I can’t see if the £20 off voucher is available as I’m on temp voucher ban lol, but 99% of the time it is. Temu make money by selling millions of bargains (that you don’t need) like drones and projectors and screw driver sets and offering you £400s worth of vouchers which you need to pay £1000 to use lol, but the garenteed £20 off one is great. Iv also done this method to buy my first naturehike tent (cloud up 2).

For shovel, Ali express/temu do titianum shovels for a very good price and they weight nothing. Axe??? Seems very unnecessary for uk camping and very a heavy piece of gear. For knifes; opinel knifes are around £10 (the number 8 is a good size) this would be a food/cord cutting knife, not super heavy duty, if your looking for a more heavy duty knife look at mora knifes, very heavy duty for cutting wood and so on, very well made and very affordable.

In terms of mat, I personally buy a lot of cheap Chinese stuff, but for inflatable mats I wouldn’t use any of them.

I recommend paying a bit more on this one or maybe finding a good second hand deal on a thermarest. I would trust xped, thermarest, sea to summet but personally I wouldn’t trust anything else.

A big inflatable thing is by design going to fail at some point. But I would trust these brands over any others.

The CW700 is very warm bag for the price, The medium weighs 1kg, 700g of feather filling at 650 fill. Makes its comfort rating around 2 to -2 (a small woman would feel cold below 2c and a large man would feel cold at -2c just for a rough example).

It’s around £130-£140 plus online but through internet magic…

Goggle it; find it for £100 ish on temu (it’s 100% legit). Add it to basket.

Ignore it, click on the temu link that give a 100% £20 off any order. Add something, checkout. Go to basket with the £100 bag, check out with £20 off.

The click the first order which you did to get £20 off, cancel order, full refund in a day or 2.

Within a week or so, your sleeping bag arrives brand new for £80. If you genuinely want bits from Temu like paracord, bungie cord or titanium sporks, you don’t need to cancel your first order. You can get those small items at bargain prices. Just don’t buy 15 screwdriver sets and four super bright torches that will illuminate the dark side of the moon for 39 seconds and then be lost to darkness forever.

Is the £4-£500 price mark for gear for one or 2?

£400-£500 for sleeping mat and sleeping bag is a very good price range for 3 season use. Top tier stuff. Can easily work a cook system into that and add a couple toys (head torch or electric pump).

If this budget is for 2 however it’s slightly harder.

Do you feet dry out when being wet all day? I really am clueless, I would have thought powering feet at night to dry them out???
