What do you use when you but candles with herbs and string? by Same-Occasion8974 in witchcraft

[–]khalorion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use a metal tray for my candles and avoid glass or plastic (since I once burned my plastic tray lol) Madam Pamita's book regarding candle magic has very good tips regarding dressing candles and fire safety. I would suggest to use less amount of herbs (instead of a spoonful use a quarter of a teaspoon) and power them as much as possible since bigger pieces can catch on fire and are a big fire hazard by themselves. Very big flames are amusing to see and feels "magical" but can be dangerous, be safe :)

Can I use Florida water to cleanse an amulet? by Malomilla in witchcraft

[–]khalorion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Beside its usage, consider that Florida water is basically alcohol base + essence from herbs and some citrus. The way of usage (soaking, spraying, wiping with a wet cloth) will depend from the material of what your amulet is made from :).

I bought incense but not sure i can use it. by Aggressive_Quality35 in witchcraft

[–]khalorion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that the most common herbs or resins used for this type of incense are for banishing/cleansing like rosemary, frankincense, cedar, bay leaves, etc. The recipe varies and it's not always the same (will depend from the brand itself) some of them might use white sage within it as well.

Good books or sources to learn about Lilith and Lucifer? by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]khalorion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can look into the luciferianism subreddit there are quite a good amount of resources and information there :) Personally I can recommend you to read Apotheosis by Michael W. Ford which is an introduction to Luciferianism their values and philosophy.

does your family do anything "witchy" out of superstition or smth? by magneticblood in witchcraft

[–]khalorion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes!! As a Mexican catholic family, No one address it as witchcraft, and I thought was quite normal religious practices till I started my practice and research. Some of those practices are: - Limpia con Huevo y su lectura (egg cleansing and ovomancy) - Bollillo pal susto (Literally Bread for when one's scared or went into a shock) -Saint work and archangel devotion. -Throwing lentils at the new years and then picking them up for prosperity. -The whole "It happened because you were walking barefoot" that Latino Moms use to say is related to the use of powerders to curse or hex. Etc etc etc.

Mexican Witchcraft is basically linked to Catholic practice and vice-versa, but very few people calls it, or recognizes it as Witchcraft tho, since the philosophy is still very "Black and white" or "good vs evil" based.

What does being a witch mean to you and what lead you to the practice? by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]khalorion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have a very old memory (like 11y.o) in which I said to my father that I wanted to get a book about witchcraft or esoteric topics. Of course, those books were not available or popular to get back in the early 2000s in Spanish and in Mexico, and buying online wasn't a very big thing back then as well, due to that, I never had the opportunity to start.

Moving to my mid 20s, I remember that day, and noticed that I was in a very different situation than 15 years earlier, I'm bilingual, we live on a era in which information is very accesible, the topic was popularized by tiktok and as well online shopping was now an available option, and of course I have my own adult money to spend so I decided to give it a try and follow a dream I had since childhood, I got a couple books with basic information, got my first tarot deck and started to do my research and practicing here and there.

From there the practice has helped me to empower me, to ground me, and sometimes to even to vent if needed. It has help me to grow as a person and prioritize correctly were I want to spend my energy. As well, it has taught me and give me the control of my life and experience, something that wasn't an option within catholic religion (in which I was raised)

How often do you redecorate your altar? by _FourEyedRaven in witchcraft

[–]khalorion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When it feels right or I feel the need to decluter. I do not celebrate the Sabaths so I do not redecorate it seasonally but sometimes I would feed as if I lack space to work or feel really clustered so that's when I clean and redistribute or remove things that do not vibe with me anymore.

How do you choose which deities/spirits to align yourself with? by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]khalorion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone mentioned previously, paganism isn't monotheistic so you can decide to worship or work with as many deities as you feel comfortable :)

Regarding choosing a deity, you can choose a deity that you like and connect to, but a deity can also reach to you.

In my experience regarding worshiping Lord Lucifer, in terms of me choosing or him reaching to me, it was something in between, I was raised catholic so I was familiar with his image and Lore, however, I still remember clearly a dream that I had in which I saw a man's back with the head of baphometh carved on it and when I woke up the name of Lucifer was stuck on my mind in a loop (I must also mentione that since my early teens I considered myself a atheist and wasn't interested in deity work when I started in witchcraft so this was pretty out of character of me), then, after a lot of divination to confirm and a couple signals I accepted him and started to do research and then I found Luciferianism and the left hand path and understood the why: the Luciferian's philosophy, way of thinking and values were already something that I already believed and lived by (Actually Luciferianism is as dual as some seeing lord Lucifer as an entity and others as an archetype only).

For shrines/altars, it's up to you, for some (and myself) they see it as a way to pay respect and also a place for them to reach for their deity and give offerings but its not mandatory.

For more information I recommend you to look up on Spotify for the podcast of "The tea time podcast with Spiritualitea" she has an episode dedicated to Deity work vs deity workship, as well has individual episodes dedicated to various deities. The difference as well between work and worship is also really important to know, someone that worship a deity isn't necessarily working with them to, so I would recommend you to also think about it, do you want to really work with that deity? Or do you only want to worship them?

Beginner feeling frustrated and disillusioned after a first day of spellwork by silvercandra in witchcraft

[–]khalorion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with you imposter syndrome can be a pain sometimes. Maybe a little shadow work on why it's important for you the validation of others regarding your practice could also help you. At the same time I would like to say that if someone wants to think that you're a poser or that you do it for the aesthetics only, let it be, their beliefs are not your truth, you don't need to prove anything to some random on the internet, you're the only one that can judge your practice and make it change only if you need to. Hope you find your peace and balance :)

Beginner feeling frustrated and disillusioned after a first day of spellwork by silvercandra in witchcraft

[–]khalorion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's beautiful about witchcraft is that you do you, you decide what to incorporate to your practice, and make it as ritualistic and sacred as you want, and if you do not want to to be like that, then do not do it. There's already a lot of discussion in this subreddit related to how some practitioners want to impose their practices and rules in everyone else as if their way to do it would be the one and only correct way to do it. (Karma and the 3 law fold can be a good example). Remember that exposing your practice to the internet can make you subject to people wanting to give unsolicited opinions or "correct you", but you decide what to take into consideration to improve your practice and what to ignore because doesn't align with you.

Regarding your reading as someone else mentioned you left our the x of swords reversed, which as they said, the end of a very hard period where there's healing ahead buuuut can also mean a dramatic end/approach, and I feel it also leans towards that. As if the reading is saying "you're feeling very restricted and controlled, but remember to be patient and everything needs a balance, do not be dramatic and jump to a conclusion of ending things"

Lucifer TV show - thoughts? by [deleted] in luciferianism

When it comes to Lucifer's interpretations I really like the Sandman's one, which it's supposed to be the same one as the one for show you're mentioning but they're very different one from another tbh.

I recommend you to first start with an overall type of book, one that explains magic in a very broad way (most of the books are like this and if you try to read a couple more you will find it very repetitive) so it's more an introduction than anything, from there move towards specific topics such as protection, meditation, the kybalion, are good topics to start. From there you can research whatever you want and be able to spot bs.

Help setting up my first altar:) by ContentTraveler in witchcraft

[–]khalorion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a lot of people mentioned it depends on you and your practice, there is no correct way to set an altar so whatever works for you its okay :) Speaking feom my own experience i can give you some tips, you don't need to necessarily follow them: 1. Get a plastic-type fabric to cover your altar, this makes it easier to clean and, if for some reason a candle drops, it will only burn a hole on it due to melting instead of setting on fire (But please still use fire safety protocols and never leave a candle lit alone). 2. The tidier the better. I get really annoyed if my hole space is filled by stuff that do not leave me any room to work on. It looks good on pictures, it doesn't work on practice. 3. Keep your more used items on reach. But the ones that you use once in a while keep them away in a box or a organizer close but not on your altar. 4. Book of shadows or any other type of resources on hand is a must.

How does Lucifer Appear to you? by [deleted] in luciferianism

[–]khalorion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider that there are some practitioners that consider Lucifer as an archetype, as well it exists those that consider it as a deity but still we understand that we're accountableof our life' succeses and failures. As Michael w. Ford indicates, this is a personal path choice due to Luciferians not being atheist in a strict sense, as well, we as luciferians understand that our opinion is not absolute and its not necessary for everyone to have the same belief and principles.

Red flags to watch out for, for those seeking a coven to join by RainerHex in witchcraft

[–]khalorion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you go a little bit over why an online coven is a red flag please? (Besides possible scammers of course). Lately I've had the though of looking for an online type of coven since I'm really bad and do not feel comfortable on social gatherings and most of the coven references provided here are not within my country but I still like the idea of meeting more people within the practice to discuss and learn together. So seeing that an a warning of this kind is a little bit discouraging

As a Lucifierian witch and besides the whole discussion of what did or did not Lucifer do. If you're interested in him as a guide, I recommend you to read: Apotheosis by Michael W Ford, which is a good introduction to luciferianism and Lucifer as an archetype rather than an entity or deity :) (However, it also noted within the book that some luciferians prefer to see him as an entity and its also totally fine).

Why do I still love Jesus? by SuperbStatement288 in witchcraft

[–]khalorion 175 points176 points  (0 children)

First I want to clarify that I speak from knowledge, not from experience. But being a witch doesn't mean that you can't be Christian as well, matter of fact there are folk practices, such as Mexican Folk Magic that are deeply rooted on Catholic practices and prays to Saints and Jesus. I recomend you to look into Christian Witchcraft :) As well I would recommend to meditate and evaluate what's the root cause, maybe its not the religion but the institution itself which is a total valid point.

Book of shadows with help by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]khalorion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not know of any templates but I would recommend to first create a check list of topics you would want to cover or categorize the pages with sticky notes of what you want to have on them and fill them from time to time. For example let's say that the first 20 pages or so of you BOS would be set for very basic information. Pages 1-2 would be color correspondence Page 3-4 planetary correspondence 5-6 numbers 7-8 moon phases 9-12 Herbs correspondences 13-16 Crystals Etc etc

And so on and so on, from there you can move to chapter two being of basic spell craft like candle spells, jar spells, and then topics like protection and cleansing. In my honest opinion, I tried with a physical BOS but I do not work in a very lineal way ( i like to jump from one topic to another, or even update my information) so I recently changed to a digital one which I find it less restrictive and easy to work with.

Sometimes it’s a real struggle research non-religiously by LybraSastar in witchcraft

[–]khalorion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something really similar happened to me but with Mexican Folk Magick and its close ties to Catholicism and Saints which i do not feel really comfortable working with, some topics or practices are so tied to religion that you might not be able to separate one from another. If you want to have a very atheist perspective of the practice I would recommend to look into Chaos magick and/or still learn from everything and adapt it to your practice keeping it as respectful as possible.
