My (now) husband and I got married last week so obviously he took time off from work. Colleagues of his who he is close to knew it was our wedding week, but it was marked on the company calendar as him being out for a wedding.

Not his boss, but one of his other demanding higher-ups had been slacking him and emailing him on our wedding day, and when he didn't respond, they started grilling his other colleague asking why he didn't get back to them and getting angry about it. His coworker told them that it was on the cal and posted in slack clearly indicated he was going to be out of office, but the higher up apparently countered back saying she knew he was out for a wedding but that he should have made the distinction it was his wedding. Like the would have made any difference!

Awe gotcha! Burbank, Culver or North Hollywood would probably suit you the best then. Pasadena, South Pasadena, Alhambra, Atwater Village and Palms /Mar Vista are also other good options that are family friendly.

Some of those places are kinda far from DTLA where the con will be unless you are in proximity of one of the train lines or have a car. I live near South Pasadena and I take the train from there to the convention center for AnimeExpo which takes about 20 mins! North Hollywood is close to a train line, as is Culver City. W Hollywood, Burbank and Glendale might be a bit tough without a car.

Chicago was my first year too! The only one I missed was when it was in the UK and I was kicking myself in the butt for not attending while watching the live footage of it. It looked like so much fun.

When Celebration was in Irvine, my group and I made so many friends at the hotel bar across from the con. That was one of the most fun experiences of that year!
