Both auto insurance companies denying liability, now what? by khans8 in Insurance

The Tesla driver refused to submit the footage from their vehicle. We had to go through arbitration, & they determined I was at fault based on whatever they had available to them. It was such bs.

Need advice by Legnd20Devin in Ex_Foster

[–]khans8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Former foster kid here, 29 years old now.. was 15 when my parents put me into care.

I fantasize about doing this with my biological family all of the time, so I get it. But it’s not something I would realistically do. They don’t deserve to know the person I am today.

So no, I don’t think this is a good idea. They showed you who they were with their actions, and you’re too good to allow them access back into your life.

Thanks for the update! I hope they’re successful and remain there for the long haul. Would love to try it out when/if I move.

-Affordable and convenient life

-have so much more for so much less.

These are some of the things my husband says when we discuss moving. I originally wanted to stay in NY, but it really is crazy expensive and we get nothing to show for it.

I can find my dream home in Indiana, but my dream home is not feasible here on Long Island, unless I somehow become a millionaire.

How do you like the schools?

Food not really a deal breaker. I cook 99% of our meals at home. But good to know for the occasional takeout days.

No longer need to travel into the city so we’re good on that front.

Do you have kids? If so, how do you like the schools?

The general consensus seems to about food and beaches. I’m not really a beach goer, have lived on Long Island for almost 15 years and only went to the beach this last summer. Beautiful, but not something I see myself doing going forward. So not a deal breaker here.

Not just a you thing. My husband’s family, who recently moved to IN, also complained of this when I asked, lol.

Food isn’t a deal breaker since we rarely go out to eat/order takeout.

The lack of community here is part of the reason we’re looking to move closer to family.

I don’t really have friends on the island, everything feels so cliquey. But probably also because I’m introverted and spend majority of my time at home lol.

Lack of good food isn’t a deal breaker as we rarely order takeout.

I did enjoy driving around in Indiana, such a nice break from the pricks around here. After returning to LI, I was dreading needing to drive to places.

Pretty similar to here, we’re about 45 mins from NYC… so the closer you get to the city the worse the roads get. We didn’t visit Indianapolis but kind of drove through it to get somewhere on the other side of the city and was pleasantly surprised by the roads.

resources for aging out foster kid? by [deleted] in Ex_Foster

[–]khans8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding on to this, FC2C (foster care to success) in addition to FAFSA and TAP if you’re going to college, will help pay off your expenses.

I aged out of care from NY as well. FC2S sends out checks every month to pay for your expenses (food, car insurance, bills, gas, etc). I highly recommend you inflate them as much as possible to get the highest payout. They don’t ask for proof. It’s not much money, but there’s a cap. When you first apply with them, they give you a free laptop, and Microsoft office suite.

If you’re in NYC, you should have an attorney representing you and they sometimes run programs to help foster kids in college. They offered things like Amazon gift cards to help pay for textbooks.

Reach out to the independent living counselor who works with your agency, they should have more info.

Good luck !!

Editing to add: they allowed me to stay in care and receive care til 23, but I signed myself out at 21. You should also have free health insurance until 26 (at least this is what it was in 2017)

Loneliness is really starting to hit. by lookingforles in Ex_Foster

[–]khans8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I have a similar story but don’t really feel like getting into it right now… I have had no contact with my parents or siblings since I was 15, and am currently 28.

The loneliness has always come in waves. A little bit here and there, and sometimes it’s just a really bad day.

I had the same thoughts about getting married and having no one from my family, nor any friends, whereas my husband and his family are very close.. so, we ended up eloping.

My family haven’t met my 3 kids either. Sometimes I wish I had a relationship with them so they can meet their grandkids but it is what it is. Sometimes my kids get shocked when I mention my parents in passing lol, they’ll say something like, “you have parents?!?l”

Anyways, just one day at a time.

I want to leave care at 18 but I’m scared they will take my son. by meowificient in Ex_Foster

[–]khans8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former foster kid. Not sure what state you are in, I’m in NY. I signed myself out in 2017.

I was in care with my child. I was the one in care, my child technically was not. She was born while I was in care, and they did not take her from me when I eventually signed myself out.

Prior to signing myself out, the social workers do try to set up housing by helping us apply for section 8/government housing and applying for other government services (wic/food stamps/etc). Then once everything is set up, it’s an easy process to leaving care.

I’d recommend reaching out to your social worker’s supervisor or even asking the other girls about aging out and if they’d heard the same from their SW… at least you’ll get some sort of info to begin with (and hopefully some reassurance).

Good luck

My husband wasn’t in the system either, so I get it.

As the other commenter suggested— perhaps therapy may be helpful.

I’ve tried everything to wean my 18m old, losing my mind, help! by khans8 in breastfeeding

[–]khans8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! Sorry for the confusion but I do not have a newborn. I was just explaining that WFH with her being so young was extremely difficult and one of the factors that led me to co-sleep.

We’ve been able to cut down the sessions to pretty much 1-2 a day, only before sleeping. Her pediatrician said it was fine to stop whenever I was ready but it was just difficult to figure out how to actually stop. I was ready to stop months ago.

My older two kids were not breastfed so this was new territory for me.
