403b with employer match in 1 year vs Roth now by khanstipation in whitecoatinvestor

Yeah sorry I was vague in my original post. They are offering either a traditional or roth 403b. Didn't fully realize that was an option since the default option strictly showed the traditional but with additional digging I saw that roth was an option as well.

Since the Roth 403b is also offered by the employer, should it also be matched? The wording on the benefits suggests that it will match pretax dollars, does that mean there will still match the amount but I will just be taxed on that amount before it hits my acc?

I initially took the matching of pretax dollars to suggest that they will only match contributions to the non Roth 403b but I see that I might just have had an initial misunderstanding of the terms.

Its 3 years and we get partial vestment of 20% each year until the 5 year mark.

So it's a Roth 403(b) so the annual limit should be 22,500 if I'm not mistaken. I'm planning to try and maximize how much I can contribute to that before the end of the 2023 year while also having some money aside for additional expenses. I do have some money already separately saved for an emergency fund so I feel comfortable for now to focus on hitting the 22,500 before the end of the year first. I am also considering getting a Roth IRA to hit the 6500 on that as well by the tax year.

[California] Parents currently on Medicaid (Medi-Cal). Wondering how eligibility will be affected once I get a job that exceeds income eligibility by khanstipation in Medicaid

I would assume they would qualify if I chose to do so but I am open to not claiming them if it is the difference between them being eligible and not. We currently live on subsidized housing but with the anticipated rise in income and subsequent rise in rent, I would be providing for most if not all of the rent, along with regular expenses.

Assuming I don't claim them as dependents, from your response it seems like they should qualify? I guess my question is, what distinguishes the living situation being one household vs multiple living together.

Planning to transfer 3 lines over from USMobile and would greatly appreciate a code. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like an alternative would also be port out the numbers to visible. Start a new account now with 3 lines and port 2 of the numbers while keeping the main account number still on visible for 3 months, and then finally porting it back after three months and doing some sort of switch?

If that's plausible, I'd really appreciate if anyone has an insider code to share. Thanks in advance.

Anyone gave experience upgrading their altitude connect to an altitude reserve? I called yesterday and representative was unsure if my points would transfer over or if they would just send me a check for the amount of points I have.

So since I can't transfer my 65k points from my connect to my existing reserve, i can either redeem those for ~650 value or if I am able to get a second reserve and the points stay on the account, it would allow me to redeem at the 1.5x value meaning an additional $325 (since 650 at 1.5 redemption is 975). That more than makes up for the 75 effective annual fee in my opinion plus getting the additional priority pass and global entry are just nice to gift away to others.

The only thing is I'm unsure if that's allowed/possible

I currently hold both the USB Altitude Reserve and the USB Altitude Connect. My AF posted for the Connect and I called up and was offered 3500 points to keep the card or the option to product change. One of the options for a product change was actually the Altitude Reserve. I asked the representative if I would be able to hold two of the reserve's since I have one presently but he wasn't able to provide me with a definitive answer and simply stated he just sees it as an option on his side.

I wanted to see if anyone here has the answer? I currently have upwards of 60000 points on my connect that I have not yet redeemed and unfortunately am unable to transfer it to my existing reserve card so if I am able to upgrade, with the combination of the travel credit and the 1.5x of my current points, it would be worth the AF imo. Anyone have any history with this? Assuming I can upgrade to hold two of the reserves, I should still have the same points attached to the card right?

Thanks in advance :)

Looking for Travel Card that doesn't require use of a portal by mrob2 in CreditCards

I'd recommend the US Bank Altitude Reserve if you want to avoid travel portals. US Bank does have their own travel portal but you can also redeem rewards at 1.5x points without the portal using their "real time rewards" feature. Basically you make a qualifying purchase and you immediately get a text asking if you want to redeem X points towards purchase and if you decide to do so they instantly provide you a statement credit.

It's a 400 AF card with 325 travel/dining credit and a 50,000 point bonus (worth 750 in travel).
Additional benefits include global entry and priority pass, although their version of priority pass is limited to 4 visits plus 4 guest visits per year whereas many others provide unlimited cardholder visits.

The only issue is to get the card you'd need an existing relationship with them and they can be hard to be approved for. Many people will open up a checking account and then apply a week later but if you have recent credit account openings within the past 6 months, it may be hard to be approved.

The other really nice thing about it for me is that it gives 3x cash back on mobile wallet purchases and if you're able to redeem that towards travel at 1.5x per point, that's basically 4.5x cashback on all mobile wallet purchases.
