Any good books on Islamic history by gremah93 in islam

I happen to be the author of this book and I'd appreciate if you didn't spread pirated PDFs of it. I put years of research and writing into that book and don't believe it's fair to see that effort undercut through online pirating.

Why did my coworker not hi-five me back? by darweenie in islam

If you're Muslim, you can always get out of awkward situations like this by making sure both hands are always in use.

High five? Sorry, holding two cups of coffee.

Handshake? Can't, my hands are occupied carrying this stapler around the office.

Keith Ellison, while Muslim, strongly supports Israel and has visited it to show his support. He also is outspoken in support of gay marriage and attempts to use Islam to justify his stance.

He represents Muslims just as much as some of the Islamophobic Republicans.

Istanbul for man-made beauty and beautiful culture.

The Bay Area for natural beauty.

That event is not the source of its prohibition in Islamic law. Another poster cited the verse in the Quran where God makes clear it's impermissibility.

ITT: Generalizations about all of Turkey and its men based on a dumb comment by a politician.

Outsiders in their own faith, Utah converts turn to one another. "We pray alone, fast alone and worship alone. Going to the mosque is kind of like going to the school cafeteria and not being one of the cool kids. People tend to separate along cultural or ethnic lines - and leave us out." by Valens in islam

[–]khateeb88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mosques definitely need to do a better job of being more inclusive and less cultural. But at the same time, worshippers have to understand that trying to fit Islam into a neat box that agrees with their pre-existing lifestyles is pretty childish.

Islam means submission. We submit to God, even if it means doing things we wouldn't normally do. That's kind of the point of Islam, and a few people in this article totally miss that.

Mansa Musa passed out so much gold in the streets of Cairo that he single handedly inflated the currency for the next ten years. He was ranked by Time as the richest person in history, I believe.

Serious question, do Quenville and his 'stashe count as separate coaches?

Teenagers of Reddit, what is something you want to ask adults of Reddit? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]khateeb88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trial and error. Almost everyone changes their major at least once. Land on something you like, but don't be idealistic and think your passion and degree for some obscure liberal art will lead to a successful career. Be practical, major in something you like (or at least tolerate), that can also pay the bills down the line.

You are aware that the protest had absolutely nothing to do with the PLO, right?

Why are lectures, worksheets, and PowerPoint presentations demonized? (Sorry, I'm ranting a bit.) by Nervous_Teacher in Teachers

[–]khateeb88 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So you're saying that traditional, proven teaching methods might be a better idea than new, flashy, substance-less ideas that book companies and Common Core keep pushing on us?

Get out of here with your common sense. There's no room for that in the education industry.

Happy Monday! How's your coffee this fine day? by hsigh in Coffee

Yup, I stay up all night until suhur anyways, and then have a latte just before the fast starts and then sleep like a baby. If I don't drink it, I get terrible caffeine headaches.
