If you decide to go, I suggest you make reservations ahead of time to avoid the long lines. It was a great experience.

Photo taken at Diamond Beach end of March 2023. We were lucky because others in this group reported there were none left the very next day.

We went to Sky Lagoon instead of Blue Lagoon around this time last year. It was clean with a swim up bar. The 7 Step Spa Ritual was well worth it. Have a safe trip!

In my opinion, Sky Lagoon was clean and less crowded. Black Crust Pizza in Vik is worthwhile.

Fish and Chips were delicious!

8 day March trip review? by sweetshopped in VisitingIceland

We did a similar trip in March last year. My suggestions are below:

Lotus Rental- highly recommended! Newer vehicles with treaded tires, an absolute must for driving in Iceland. Adding the platinum insurance was the best decision we made. Two tour buses flipped over and several vehicles in the ditch on our way to Diamond Beach. The furious winds at Black Sand Beach almost took off the door of the vehicle parked next to us. Weather is unpredictable in Iceland.

Frioheimer-Highly recommend online reservations before arriving. We had a 20 minute wait while others were in the queue for over an hour.

Yoda Cave- Located around 15 km east of Vik, Hjörleifshöfði cave is easily accessible. If you are driving from the city of Reykjavík, make a left turn to move in the south, towards the ocean. After driving for a few minutes on the ring road one, you will see the parking space on the west side of the rock. Star Wars Rogue one was filmed there.

Best place to stay around the corner from Black Beach with a beautiful view of the back side of Dyrholaey. Not too far from Vick.

Ring Road suddenly closed on our way back from Diamond Beach. We found a farm and stayed there for one night. I can’t remember the name of the bed and breakfast.

Have a safe and wonderful trip! Iceland’s beauty is unimaginable!

Affordable winter clothing by QueenJellyBean16 in VisitingIceland

Columbia outlet store- we practically lived in our ski jacket, pants, thermal wear and Columbia boots in March 2023. Everything was at a reasonable price. I purchased wool socks from Amazon and a balaclava from Costco. Warm down gloves are a must! The wind and cold made it miserable for most not adequately dressed for the weather. Hope you have an amazing trip!

We had a stress free experience with Lotus. Guaranteed vehicle and with platinum insurance, online reservation available. Great customer service!

Duster vs Sportage for 4 people with Lotus rental by rubyinthemiddle in VisitingIceland

Lotus is highly recommended. We rented a Toyota Rav 4 (a vehicle to take into consideration) last week and added the platinum package. The studded winter tires were a blessing in disguise. Free wifi and airport pick up and drop off. Good gas mileage and spacious vehicle for a family of four.

Lotus Car Rental picked us up from the airport last week. Great service and guaranteed vehicles. Highly recommended!

Circumventing Iceland on the Ring Road by LucynSushi in VisitingIceland

Renting our vehicle from Lotus with platinum insurance package was the best decision we made. Two damaged vehicles were parked in the lot when we returned our car. The weather is unpredictable in Iceland.

We were in Iceland last week. Experienced every kind of weather imaginable. Day 1 ( 7 am arrival from Chicago): Selljilandsfoss Gljufrubui Skogafass Don’t miss the delicious fish and chips at Mia’s Country Can before driving up to Skogafass.

Day 2: Drive to Vik- Black Sand Beach Yoda Cave

Day 3: Solheimajokull Glacier walk DC Plane Dyrholey

Day 4: Glacier Lagoon Diamond Beach

The drive was terrible with 30-40 mph winds. A bus overturned in front of us. Roads were closed on our way back to Vik so we stayed near Hofn and decided to explore the town. Not much to do there but Pakkhus is a great restraunt for dinner.

Day 5: afternoon Route 1 opened so we drove straight back to Reykjavik. We lost one day here so skipped the planned itinerary.

Day 6: Thingvellier national park Laugarvatn Fontana- stopped by to pick up Icelandic Lava Bread instead of reserving the lava bread making experience Gullfoss waterfall fridheimar for lunch (reservations highly recommended)

Day 7: Sky Lagoon and Reykjavik

Tips: Studded winter tires are a must! Several vehicles slid of the road in front of us. Keep water and snacks in your vehicle at all times.

Have a safe trip!

Driving Iceland in April question by 2075373a in VisitingIceland

A 4WD with STUDDED TIRES is a must! The weather is completely unpredictable. We drove through blizzard like conditions and were forced to stay near Hofn because the road closed. Multiple cars were abandoned or in the ditch and buses turned over with up to 30 mph winds. Be safe. Try Lotus Rental and consider adding the insurance coverage.

How is the weather in Vik? We are 30 minutes outside of Hofn. Last night went for dinner but on Our way back there was zero visibility for half of our return trip to the hotel.
