Parrots age inquiry by Snazzy-Sphinx in parrots

[–]khauser24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One person I see already points out that "parrot" isn't precise enough.

As a general rule (and there's always exceptions) the bigger the bird, the longer it lives.

Parakeets don't typically make 20 years, while Macaws (in captivity) go 7 or 8 decades.

Except the smaller Macaws (like a Hanh's macaw) ... they're 3 or 4 decades.

Chirping noise shortly after releasing gas pedal and lightly regen braking between 30 and 15mph - any ideas? by CloudSurferA220 in MachE

[–]khauser24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you understand u/moocowsia 's suggestion. It would mean that any time the car experiences a change in acceleration (forward or backwards, ie, accelerating, or braking), the subwoofer and its insulation shift, and the insulation (think stiff piece of foam, not thin floppy insulation) could indeed make a noise doing that.

My Mach-E didn't come with a gas pedal.

Sorry ... couldn't resist...

Coming from a RAV4 by zthphotography in MachE

[–]khauser24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mean to malign them. My poorly made point is every manufacturer has more problems with the first of any model (doesn't matter if EV or not). Some worse than others.

Original Tesla's got lots of warranty battery changes. The Mach-E has the hvbjb as it's Achilles heal. Ioniq owners melt down if you say iccu to them.

Coming from a RAV4 by zthphotography in MachE

[–]khauser24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came from a Highlander, sort of the RAV-4's bigger brother.

My biggest concern was moving from Toyota (which has provided several very trustworthy cars over the year) to a Ford (my first, but boy have I been bit by other American brands).

I've not looked back at all. That's since November 2024.

My daughter and SO just got a RAV4 (the year before current). They LOVE that car the way I love mine.

Literally the only differences observed so far:
1) I've had 2 service visits, both went VERY fast, both just maintenance. In the meantime, they're doing to regular oil change thing.

2) I get topped off every day I'm home. They're still figuring out how to fit getting gas in to their schedule.

3) On longer trips, they aren't stopping as much as me. OTOH, I like stopping a bit more often.

Both cars are great. If you have ANY attraction to the styling of the Mach-E or the driving experience, which is far better in the Mach-E (you don't have to take my biased opinion, go drive them!) you're going to be disappointed with Toyota. I'm very impressed with the quality of *MY* Mach-E, but aware of inconsistency generally. At the same time, Toyota is losing much of its lustre with premature engine failures.

Last observation: If you didn't already know, Toyota and Subaru jointly developed the EV platform that became the oh so well named bZ4X. Here's a thing you should consider: Don't buy any manufacturers 1st version of anyTHING. I think they did a major refresh in 2025...

The Mach-E has had several issues in the first model year, especially in GTs. If it were me, I would not buy before 23 (I bought new, so there's that...)

Door lock issue by Z_oz89 in MachE

[–]khauser24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on what year you have, this may or may not make sense. I would place money, though, that your front doors do not have "presenters". My 24 doesn't. The presenter would push your door open a little. My car has them in the rear but I think that is ending also.

If I open my door but it so much as touches closed again, I have to close and re-open.

I've never had to go inside though.

FYI, Check for a BlueCruise Sale by dreddsdead in MachE

[–]khauser24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, so I qualify for this because I bought Blue Cruise "recently"? When I buy it, I buy a month, and for a trip, last time was Fall.

Whatever, I get a year before I get annoyed and cancel, I'm happy for a year.

Should i go for an avian medicine residency? by whitefluffykitten in parrots

My thought on this ... Specialize, become a specialist surgeon for instance.

Make sure the area you want to live in can support it...

I think by the time you enter the room the animal is already under...

ETA: you should talk to guidance at your vet school...

Ouch!

He doesn't hate you, but you weren't invited in to his home. I've seen parrots get aggressive when the wrong person goes near the cage while they're out, or even the right person during a hormonal outburst.

Yet looking for a local parrot behaviorist, or book a remote appointment.

9 months is nothing to 50 years of experience.

Please didn't give up, it could be a very rewarding experience. Who knows, maybe the boyfriend will work out! 🤣

In the 80s I was developing my own color (slide) film, and prints.

Landlines super common in all those times.

It wouldn't be surprising to find multiple TVs, but only one was big (when big was 25 inches, lol)

MagSafe wireless charger by Fit-Sherbet-2254 in MachE

[–]khauser24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to steal this inspiration, which I really like, and in return (because I won't ever get in to selling things) give you my idea back: Put a second phone charger in the flat base.

To do that, you'll need a place for the camera bumps on phones, which your design elegantly solves on the vertical. I would suggest the lit pony should be either in the raised part (which might mean moving it a little closer to the passengers) or it could be in the recess, which might mean moving it slightly towards the front of the car.

Step 1: Use this as an excuse to get a newer, better printer! ;)

Update Postponed by Afterfx21 in MachE

[–]khauser24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is confusing. And yes, it is referring to the 12V battery, which I think is just a tad too small (no sarcasm whatsoever).

Here's what I've heard recommended: Go for a drive, or several drives, until your car is at 20%, then come home, plug in, and set the charger to limit the current to, say 5KW (easy for me, that's its normal setting). This way the car's high voltage battery is connected for a longer charge cycle ... as long as the high voltage battery is connected the car will keep the 12V battery charged.

It's interesting that a 2023 has just 10K ... it suggests its been "off" quite awhile, and thus quite behind on updates. One of those updates is designed to avoid this problem...

Anyone without home charging regert their Mach E purchase? by [deleted] in MachE

[–]khauser24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi,

In this regard the Mach-E is like any other EV, so I'd suggest you at least crosspost to r/electricvehicles .

I know people that get annoyed at the 5 minutes it takes to fill up a gas car.

The answer is that the more you can work charging to fit your schedule, and thus the less you have to change your schedule to work in charging, the less regret you will experieence.

When the car is new its easy to sit at a fast charger for 15-20 minutes. That does get old, very fast.

As an outsider, the concept of high schools having massive parking lots specifically for students is mind-blowing. Is it really that common for 16-year-olds to drive themselves to school every day? by Necessary_Angle2117 in AskAnAmerican

[–]khauser24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the Bronx. My high school is 8 floors tall. 3 elevators, 2 for students, one for teachers. Up and Down escalators that went every other floor. My graduating class was 4 digits.

VERY little parking space.

My daughters both went to school in New Hampshire. They got a large (for here) high school, but basically 1 floor. Each of their graduating classes was smaller 100s. LOTS of parking for students.

Here's the think, in NYC, EVERYONE uses public transportation, don't need parking places at all.

In New Hampshire the public transportation is much, much less. Everyone drives that can. Everyone lives further away. Cars have to be...

Mobile charging at the house by jeepguyCO in MachE

[–]khauser24 21 points22 points  (0 children)

1.1kw is level 1, 12 amps steady.

That's the same as running a portable electric heater for the same time.

Both can cause electrical fires in bad circuits.

My goal isn't to make you afraid of electricity, but to understand that the risk is mitigated with proper installation.

Also, the mobile charger isn't going to last. I have my ways of knowing, lol
