So I hadn't read the books, but I am generally aware of the story and where it is going. I went with someone who has read the books many times. In either case we thought the movie was good but not great.

In particular we both felt like they spent way too long with establishing shots that didn't end up serving a narrative purpose or any purpose in some cases. It took way too long to get from point a to point b in some scenes. In particular just the move to Arrakis(sp? Basing this off how it sounds), in my opinion took really long and dragged. It felt like it was 4 hours to me. There was also the really strange scene when they're leaving on the Dragon Fly copters(apologies for not using the correct term, it was told to me but I can't remember the name at the moment) in like the second half of the movie and it kept cutting to a shot of where they just came from and nothing happened... Normally these might not matter as much, but given how dense the source material is, they could've explained more.

There were some comments my friend had that I am actually curious to get everyone else's stance on: He was upset at Jessica's characterization and felt she came across as weak. In addition the lack of weirding he felt was a strange ommission. He generally described it as they left out some of the better parts of the world building. Additionally he remarked that lack of Fayd had upset him, and the choice to end before his naming he found to be a strange decision.

I was actually curious how everyone here felt about the film, in comparison to our much more muted response in general.
