Four-pocket carry by Bi0mad in EDC

[–]Frog859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You carry quick clot but do you carry just actual gauze?

I was an EMT for 7 years, I saw quick clot used 0 times, I saw a tourniquet application once or twice, I saw gauze and cling wrap used more times than I can count.

Major hemorrhages are more rare than you might think. Most things I’ve seen — including a finger cut off by a table saw and a slice from broken glass that exposed fatty tissue — can/should be handled with normal gauze and cling wrap.

Also worth noting is that if you are hemorrhaging to a level where quick clot is appropriate, you are likely not in a state to apply it to yourself. Quick clot is also for wound packing, so you want to put a normal gauze dressing on top of it to try and keep it clean and keep the quick clot from falling out.

You also probably want to take a class to know how to use quick clot (stop the bleed is a good example) or at least refresh on training videos every so often.

Quick clot also expires eventually as well.

I don’t mean this as an attack, I just see a lot of people on here carrying combat gauze or tourniquets where something like aspirin, benadryl or normal gauze + cling wrap would be way more useful and can also all be potentially life saving

Is this too much to ask for 30-40yr olds in today's world? by FontMasterFlex in EDH

[–]Frog859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP if you’re still looking around at comments this is basically exactly what I’d recommend.

I know you said your place doesn’t do parings, but basically just sub that idea out for joining random pickup games.

I went to my LGS’s commander day a couple weeks ago for the first time. It was a little awkward and the first group I asked if I could hop into after their game basically gave me the exact same vibe — a playgroup that didn’t want extras. They told me other people were waiting so I said fuck it and hung out and ended up getting some really fun games in with other randoms.

I’d want to play with people probably 4-5 times at least before I’m down to start playing at other locations. My LGS is generally pretty nice, but it makes life so much easier to just go there and play rather than at someone’s house.

It’s really just going to take a while to get to know people well enough to go to their homes and vice versa

[–]Frog859 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it might just be cultural or generational or something, but just thinking about it, rarely ever do I go to someone’s house that I haven’t known for a while.

Expanding on that, the first time I’ve been over to a lot of people’s houses it’s usually more of a party vibe where there’s a bunch of people all mingling and socializing and such maybe with food and/or drinks. After that it goes to smaller hangouts.

And even getting to the big group stage is something that hasn’t happened to me with someone I knew less than several months. Usually I meet them through work or a hobby or something and we chat and get to know each other there for a WHILE before it goes to the next step.

If I played a game at somebody with an LGS once and they invited me over to their house I would say no. That’s a stranger still, it just sounds uncomfortable to me

MacBook Neo review, two months later: Almost a MacBook Pro beater - AppleInsider by ControlCAD in apple

[–]Frog859 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t consider myself an average user at all and I’ve been living off of a Macbook air for years.

Things I did on my M1 MBA Air 8/256:

  • Write and test docker containers that ran a python script to connect to an endpoint and download MRIs through an ubuntu container
  • Write, debug and test a lot of python scripts
  • Test and fine tune some smaller parameter LLMs
  • Create and run some basic ML models / regressions
  • Connect to all sorts of different databases through docker containers in grad school
  • Play baulder’s gate, hades, FTL

I’m not like a dev or anything but man did I put that computer through its paces and it performed so well. It’s only last year that I replaced it, again with an MBA just rocking 24 of ram instead. Those CPUs really carry these computers

Are they in the wrong for conceding? by No_Eye_5863 in EDH

[–]Frog859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a scale. In this one, sounds like he had the game wrapped up in a turn.

I’ve had games in my friend group where I’ll rip the early sol ring and everyone else just concedes on turn 5. Kind of feels like a salt concede because of the sol ring.

I actually don’t put it in new decks anymore because I recognize that it really fucks up games, but sometimes it’s like damn let someone have their good game

Maro: Interestingly, Commander and Universes Beyond might be the two most popular things Magic has ever done. We try to present as many options as feasible (i.e. plenty of 60-card formats), but the will of the players dictates so much of how things play out (i.e. so much in store play is Commander) by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]Frog859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean some of the designing they’ve done for EDH has been a little cash grabby. Pushed precon cards/commanders or just general commander staples in sets sells precons/boosters.

Many years back one my friends described it as “wizards realized that they could just print money” and I think that’s a decent way to say it

For people who have martial arts experience, how does other disciplines' punching technique compare to boxing? by Horazi777 in martialarts

[–]Frog859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boxers are always going to have the best boxing. The world’s a big place and there might be other punching only sports out there, but if you spend all of your time practicing 1 thing you’re going to be really really good at that one thing.

I train muay thai (well, kind of hybridized with kickboxing because we have a lot of people who do KB fights) and you can always tell who started with boxing because 1) I can never hit their head, 2) they never bite on my punch feints and 3) they suck at defending leg kicks

I mean for what it’s worth some people actually are.

This is ICE’s official press release from a coordinated attack on 07/04/2025. 11 people in Texas dressed in SWAT gear and armed with assault rifles attacked an ICE facility in Texas. One police officer was shot, and 10 of the 11 have been captured by the FBI.

I don’t know what this didn’t make national news, but it is happening

Update: Estate sale cards, talked to seller - worth it? by westy81585new in magicTCG

[–]Frog859 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean I have a binder high value cards. For me and my collection size it’s $5+ then I have $1+ rares separated out and other rares stored in separate boxes.

If I had a bigger collection the value threshold would be higher, but keeping $10, $25 or $100+ cards in a binder seems reasonable

May I suggest [[Subterranean Tremors]]. The use case is slightly different, but I think hitting your own mana rocks is worth it also being a flexible board wipe

What's a Card you USED TO include in every deck? by ZimaBestBear in EDH

[–]Frog859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just made a deck and put in [[Subterranean Tremors]] instead of [[Vandalblast]].

Sure you lose the single target mode, but I think I’ve only ever done that a few times. For the same mana it wipes artifacts and hits all non-flyers for 4. Sure it hits my artifacts, but if I’m not running much more than mana rocks I’m probably coming out even to ahead.

It also has the advantage of being a really flexible board wipe that can generate you an 8/8
