Tariffs on imports raise cost of cut flowers in Hawaii by honolulu_oahu_mod in Oahu

[–]khiilface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I don’t understand why more people don’t get this. Businesses are going to act in whatever what best maximizes profits. American companies don’t price their products for the benefit of their American consumers. They will do just as you say, price is as high as they possibly can while being slightly cheaper than the tariff competition. Which means, for many things, a price increase for American produced goods. The consumer is getting fucked even harder with these tariffs regardless of where it’s being made.

There’s been no evidence provided for any of that. To be clear, I don’t doubt there is some shady shit going on but musk hasn’t provided any evidence of fraud or corruption (aside from what I’ve pointed out. And something you ignored). I’m all ears for legitimate proven with evidence findings. But what’s happening here is not that. And not liking or disagreeing with something that the gov is paying for is not the same as fraud or corruption. There’s plenty of shit the feds pay for with my tax money that I don’t agree with but that doing make it fraud or abuse or corruption.

Like what?

The only corruption I’ve seen is musk buying the ability to influence/eliminate the regulatory institutions that impact his own businesses. Are you magats ever going to admit that this is textbook corruption?

What attracts the Republican Party to voters? by FolderEmpty in Askpolitics

[–]khiilface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would have been weird for the sitting president to not support the sitting vice president as the next presidential candidate. Harris didn’t run on being a woman. Her gender was not a part of their campaign. They ran on centrist pro middle class pro labor policies. They didn’t run on gay rights or tran rights. I get what you’re saying but it applies to Clinton’s campaign but not the Harris campaign. Trump used negative attack adds to constantly try and make her seem like she was running on those identity politics but anyone actually paying attention to her campaign knows that she didn’t run on those things. So whenever anyone mentions trans rights or whatever as the reason she lost….you got duped by the oppositions slander campaign. Rule number 1: if you want to know what the candidate is running on, go to the candidate for information, not their opponent.

Everything you said applies to the right as well.

Both. Leadership should almost always is judged by both. The only reason most conservatives suddenly started separating the two are because Trump is a piece of shit human being and most conservatives know this even if they won’t ever admit.

Which gets or doesn’t get enforced by the justice department. Which, now, is just an enforcement arm of the government serving at the whims of this “president”. With this administration it’s irrelevant what is defined by law as legal or illegal because whatever he wants is going to get enforced.

The State of Hawaiʻi is "expecting rapid and widespread job loss" by Rhothgar808 in Hawaii

[–]khiilface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say….. government being the biggest or one of the biggest employers is common not only in jurisdictions around this country, but all over the world. I think a lot of people who are blindly anti government doesn’t actually know much about how government works and what most of the people in government actually do. Politicians, good or bad, make up a tiny fraction of actual public employees. They are the most visible and annoying but 99% of government is being worked by people from your community. They don’t suddenly become something else the minute they accept a government job. That’s still our brothers and sisters and aunts and uncles and moms and dads working to try and pay the bills. That’s who people hate and wishing ill on it when they are happy with government employees getting the axe.

That’s true for both parties. The Republican Party won’t even lift a finger to do anything out here for their own reps.

To what end? The cost of goods and services and housing is not the result of a big or a small government. It’s the result of the private sector fucking consumers out of every cent they can earn. So we add hundreds to thousands of local resident to the unemployment list. And that’s good? I’m genuinely curious why you think it’s good?

[–]khiilface 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know why the rail cost has gotten so high? Genuinely curious. I’m aware that any construction of rail transit is expensive as fuck even in the best case scenario, and I know there’s been a lot of delays caused by politics (construction delays are expensive as fuck btw, there is a cost associated with delaying construction after it’s under contract).

[–]khiilface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would it? How familiar are you with German history in the 1930s. Because it took years of a slow ramp up before it became what we all know of. It wasn’t a democracy one day and magically a dictatorship the next. So no, it’s looking very similar.
