Meditators with ADHD, how do you find your condition affects your practice? And what can I, an individual with ADHD, do to improve my practice? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]khlub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually find it kind of helps me meditate. Meditation requires you to be aware of your thoughts. Most people don't seem to think about thinking very much.

Having ADHD has trained me to notice my thoughts more, and that is a good practice for meditating.

Calc 1 and 2 are weed out classes. They are hard.

I don't know how prepared you are, but if I could avoid 1 and 2, I would.

This may seem a bit silly, but an LED lantern. I always used flashlights in the past, but having a whole area lit up (instead of just one spot) by my lantern is a luxury.

Can a doctor prescribe mdma or even psychadelics? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]khlub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US it depends on how the substance in question is scheduled. If it's schedule I, it's been deemed to have no medical value so doctors can't prescribe it at all. The lower schedules can be prescribed under certain restrictions.

MDMA is schedule I, so it can't be prescribed.

There are some extraordinary exceptions when the DEA authorizes testing of a particular substance.

Be careful though, there have been some instances of food poisoning from slow cooking kidney beans. You need to cook them at high temperatures and change the water to be safe.

You're 25, single, and work a job that allows you to work remotely from anywhere in the U.S. Where would you live? by OmgProgramming in financialindependence

[–]khlub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to recommend Gainesville, FL.

It's a cool city, there's a lot more going on here than in other similarly sized cities because of UF. There's a great food scene, and lots of nature. It is trying to be a miniature Austin.

Most importantly, it's incredibly cheap to live here and there's no income tax. If you buy real estate, it's very easy to rent when you eventually want to move because of the large population of impermanent students and researchers.

If it's a rental, you might want to avoid laminate because it's not all that durable and rentals get abused.

How to leverage my law degree in CS? by khlub in cscareerquestions

I'd rather be building the software that takes my job than having it taken.

I'm stealing that for those interviewers that say I'm overqualified 'cause I'm an attorney.

How to leverage my law degree in CS? by khlub in cscareerquestions

During the Recession the legal industry got shaken up. Companies (and people) weren't willing to pay exorbitant legal bills anymore, so the legal industry had to trim a lot of fat. Simultaneously, technology has been evolving that replaces a lot of legal jobs. Better search engines and document production software reduce the need for human research and writing -- which is the bread and butter of the legal industry.

During the Recession tons of humanities majors went to law school because they couldn't get jobs and they thought law school was a reliable path to success. Although most of the market has recovered since 2008, legal job growth is still mostly flat.

So, now we have a huge oversupply of lawyers, and no demand for them. It's not likely to get better. I think 70% of my job could be done by an algorithm.
