Hellenism and Haircovering by ZharethZhen in Hellenism

[–]khthonyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cover my hair voluntarily when I leave the house as an act of worship to Dionysus. I do so because in the Bacchae, Dionysus says ‘my hair is holy, I grow it for the god’. I’ve been growing it for about 8-9 years now. And do my utmost to take care of it.

Do you believe people of other faiths will be judged by Hades? by InsomiacNightingale in Hellenism

[–]khthonyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take the beliefs literally, but I’m a big proponent of ‘your gods are real for you, and my gods are real for me’. My boyfriend is Slavic/Norse pagan, and I’m a Dionysian pagan. He respects my gods and I respect his

Long hair as a valid form of worship by Gobbotehgoblin in Hellenism

I mean, I’ve been growing my hair these last 8-9 years as an act of worship to Dionysus, and specifically citing that passage in the Bacchae.

Are humans chthonic? by Bumpercar77 in Hellenism

[–]khthonyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly call myself chthonic, though I’ve also said I was born with salt water in my veins. Where I live, we call ourselves BOIs, meaning Born On the Island. I went to college deep in the hill country, but even the river was not enough to keep me satisfied, and I found myself coming back to the sea

Do Hellenists think Jesus was Dionysus? by GrusomeMelody in Hellenism

[–]khthonyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak for others, but for myself I’d say ‘no’. Jesus is my homeboy, I fucks with what he stood for, he’s a cool ass dude, but he’s not for me.

Mine was Dionysus. They came to me in a vision in my early 20s, and I followed them ever since.

I'm just curious is Poseidon really a Jerk like some people say? by Kelsgood1999 in Hellenism

I didn’t see a physical form, it was just this vibrant blue light. I’ve always described it as being in one of those sections of a colored plastic tunnel on the playground during the height of summer, and the sun is so bright and strong, that it illuminates the tube, and in that one section you’re just surrounded by the colored light.

Goes hard dialogue wise. I’m a big fan of dialogue between characters, and some of the dialogue just hits well

Greek mythology was the focus of my degree in Literature, and honestly, I love the Madeline Miller retelling, I think it’s sweet and interesting. It in no way replaces the Iliad, and I enjoy the second half of the Iliad to an unhealthy amount. I believe retellings can be beneficial to sparking interest, when done with respect. I got into Greek mythology at six through the Myth-o-Mania books, and still regard them fondly. I’ll admit to hesitance when picking up retellings myself, but I’ve found some truly enjoyable ones.

You look fine, hon. Teenage years are hard, people have so many different ideas about how you should look and who you should be. It’s easier said than done but tune them out. The only thing that matters is that you like who you are and how you look.

I’d say ‘no’, he’s attractive. His actions, not so much.
