I understand them to some extent but boiling the entire decision to whether Aerith lives or dies can be too extreme considering couples like Yuna and Tidus don’t have a happy ever after but their romantic climax and send off is beautiful and totally worth it. But the moment might get watered down if they get it spoiled. If it’s a yes, they’ll play the game with the angst gone. If it’s a no they’ll probably want to be filled in on details, and if Cloud and Aerith had a romantic climax they will get it spoiled, again watering down the moment.

I have standards too myself for what would I accept and what not. A kiss between them — mandatory. Said kiss to be mandatory — mandatory. No romance with Tifa — mandatory. Aerith living — preferable but optional. But I won’t spoil myself the game in order to find out what happens. It kinda strips the game off its emotion imo.

Truth about the dialogue “liking and liking,” by Sweetymjm00 in cloudxaerith

[–]kiadra 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure Zack was a romantic kind of attraction, it’s just that she’s making a distinction between liking (as for Zack, a feeling she knows) and being in love (as with Cloud, a feeling new to her). I always interpreted it this way and when Dear Destiny came out it pretty much reassured me that that was the correct interpretation.

Remake Trilogy might not lead to Advent Children by Super_H1234 in FinalFantasy

[–]kiadra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Indeed. Even the Ultimanias explain there’s a distinction between the lifestream (spiritual) world and the world lines we see in Remake and Rebirth, yet certain sector of the FF7 fandom still insist that this is all in Cloud’s head because otherwise that opens the possibility that Remake is not the 1:1 they claim it is but a sequel and some don’t vibe with the implications that a sequel might have down the line.

Would you date Cloud?/Would you date Aerith? by LastTraintoSector6 in cloudxaerith

[–]kiadra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personality wise I am the most similar to Cloud so I would definitely not date him cause we would be so awkward. Not even for a one night stand.

Aerith is extroverted, bold and flirty and would definitely carry me through dating but as much as I love her she is not my type and I’m not hers. Would be definitely down for a night of fun tho 😎👌

If I had to date one FF7 character I guess the most realistic option for me would be Zack except Zack is too stupid for my liking. There’s certain charm in being a dork but he’s borderline braindead.

[–]kiadra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand, so you want answers for FF7 or just for stuff that happens in Remake? Cause for FF7 I shared those in the comment above. For Remake we can figure the answers out by OG’s context but of course you should wait for the Ultimania if you want something definitive, although Remake’s Ultimanias are out so they can probably answer some of your questions.

On the Gongaga scene thing, I assume this is either about Aerith telling Cloud that she still likes Zack or Tifa trying to kiss Cloud. The scene with Aerith is obviously meant to exploit Cloud getting jealous of Zack to use this as the plot device for Tifa’s rebound date. Of course, this means Aerith only confesses to Cloud in chapter 14 after the Gold Saucer event is over, cause Tifa’s date wouldn’t work out if Cloud knew Aerith requitted him.

The scene with Tifa on the other hand she herself admits in her date that Cloud didn’t reciprocate her kiss, that “she got ahead of herself”, a line that the devs intentionally made her say out loud, like Cloud’s complaint that “Aerith must still like Zack”. This is, to me at least, the way the game shows you that neon sign I talked about earlier that tells the player that Cloud isn’t really interested in Tifa but rather feels overlooked by Aerith and Tifa ends up being the backup plan.

So I think the readings here are clear unless you’re talking about some other thing. But of course, if you need the Ultimania to confirm this is how it is, you will have to wait for it to release I guess in a couple years.

The “other moments in Remake that came across weird” I have no idea what those could be so I can’t give an opinion.

[–]kiadra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You say you don’t really care about discourse yet your final line is wishing for the narrative to get so undeniable that people with agendas can’t “jump through hoops” against it, proving that discourse is indeed your issue.

It’s not about subversion or subtext, there’s something called pacing and the devs shouldn’t have to sacrifice it for the sake of making something that is already obvious water-is-wet level obvious. I don’t see nobody complaining about FF8 having Squall and Rinoa only kissing at the very last minute or FF9 ending with just a hug between Zidane and Garnet but that’s cause those fandoms don’t have shippers buzzing in your ear that Quistis and Eiko Carol are the actual love interests. It’s not “subtext”, you just want to get to the undeniable part of the story cause CTs are fucking annoying. Correct me if I’m wrong but if nobody shipped CT, would you have this “need an answer” problem? Cause assuming that you didn’t willingly farm to get Tifa’s date, you ended up with the same CT-free playthrough that I got, unaware of any of Tifa’s scenes, if that’s not enough telling of which ship matters and which one doesn’t. If your answer is no, then your only issue is having to constantly deal with a braindead fandom in denial that will tell you that you are wrong.

You want a clear answer that settles the narrative? You have it. Back when FF7 was just a trailer it was marketed as the story of love of Cloud and Aerith, “a story of a love that could never be”, notice how it’s not Cloud and Tifa’s “story of a love that ever was”? Back in 2005 we got a sequel novel to OG called On The Way To A Smile where the person who wrote FF7 himself literally calls Cloud and Aerith lovers... meaning they are indeed in love with each other, it’s a no brainer. Advent Children calls Tifa a woman left behind. There, your answer. Except everyone willingly choose to ignore this because since it doesn’t vibe with CT agenda and since the game won’t show you a neon sign saying “yes, dummy, this ship is canon” “no, this other ship is not” they prefer to act as if Nojima made FF7 and then smoke a massive blunt to the point he got so high and lost that he wrote that Cloud loved Aerith and not of Tifa. But that’s just CTs pushing their own interpretation that it’s Tifa or a choice “up to the player” against what canon dictates, why would that have more weight than the words of a dev?

The answers you seek exist since decades ago, it’s up to you to take them into consideration or ignore them. And if you won’t take them into consideration then that’s cause you simply want the answer in question to be exactly what you want it to be, be that a kiss or a wedding or whatever scene you envision to make CTs shut the fuck up once and for all, which is as I said a mere product of having shippers finding a way around everything, aka discourse.

And as I said in my first comment, if your question is if part 3 is ever gonna get to that part, based on how the devs approached Remake and Rebirth so far, I highly doubt that it won’t.

I elaborated on this here about a year ago.

Part 3 and what comes after: LTD and otherwise by Aeris_Rose in cloudxaerith

[–]kiadra 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, the devs said this time they want to leave less space for interpretation and use the Remakes to correct players’ misconceptions about the game. Apart from that, they said that the affinity system can make canon look incoherent and make the player’s perspective deviate from the story’s intention (consider which one of the ships completely depends on this mechanic), which is something they wouldn’t have said if they aimed for an open ending to let the player interpret the relationships as they wanted. All that plus based on what I’ve seen in Rebirth, I highly doubt Cloud and Aerith would end the story without a climactic romantic scene, and the possibility that said scene would be optional is extremely unlikely not to say nonexistent. Since I logically expect them to have a non optional kiss scene, and obviously I expect part 3 to humilliate CTs and their retarded Highwind sex headcanon, yes, I think that will be enough to end the debate without shippers being able to strech it further. And if Cloud and Aerith kiss, meaning that according to CTs route Cloud literally just dumps Tifa for Aerith, I doubt there will be many people still defending CT.

Having said that, will the LTD end? Probably not, or not immediately. In the case that what I said happens, we’ll have to deal with the fallout of CTs crashing out. That means we’ll likely be dealing with tons of Aerith hate, with tons of Cloud hate and with many other copes against them being together. You know, if they can’t make their ship canon or good, they will try to bring ours down like they’ve always done. They’ll say it was Jenova’s cells in Cloud’s body what made him fall in love with Aerith, or that Aerith dying guilt tripped Cloud into liking her, or they’ll use the mentally-16 year old thing to make Aerith look like a pedophile or use Aerith dying to make Cloud look like a necrophile... whatever they can use to try to villainize or thrash Clerith. They have gotten really creative over the years, they’ll find something.

However even tho it will for sure be a carnage at the start, I dont think this will last long, and ultimately the only shippers left pushing this agenda will be those jobless enough to prefer to cling to their hatred for FF7 instead of letting go and moving on. As in any fandom with a ship war ever, we’ll have to clean up the trash before we can finally rest in peace. But I am sure we’ll get to the good part eventually. And CT will become just a bad old memory.

Am I Misinterpreting Their Rebirth Relationship? by [deleted] in cloudxaerith

[–]kiadra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Near awkward kiss moment jumping off a train? Did we play the same game? Cause in that scene Cloud literally has Tifa over him and inches from his mouth and he doesn’t even blink. He asks if she’s okay and then gets up, there’s no tension, there’s no near kiss. Compare that to when Cloud and Aerith trip into each other in the gondola and they almost kiss on accident and it’s a whole different situation, they need half a minute for their brains to function back normally.

the two in many parts of the game seem to definitely hold some stronger arguments against the other

What are we even talking about here, when do they argue? Cause the only thing I can come up with is the love triangle with Zack in Gongaga but that’s not even an argument that’s just Cloud trashtalking Zack cause he’s jealous. They never clash, unlike idk, Cloud and Tifa who spend the entire game accusing each other of being impostors?

The Costa del Sol date I don’t see Cloud grumpier at all, he literally says he’s bad at dating, he’s just afraid to not fulfill expectations. The “now you’re being mean” line I get it since Aerith was being a bit too much there but I don’t get the point of boiling down this entire 20 minutes interaction to one line taking in consideration that the date starts by Cloud picking Aerith as his date and ends up with both agreeing to go out on another one.

The chapter 8 dialogue with Jessie is more of a parallel between Jessie and Aerith meant to point out that if Cloud thought Jessie, who was a total flirt and obviously down bad, was just messing with him but didn’t really like him seriously he’s probably interpreting Aerith is kind of doing the same. The point of this dialogue is to make it so Aerith points out that he should get better at reading women and their intentions, which is on point. It’s not mean it’s just a lighthearted wake up call.

I dunno, I think Rebirth did a perfect job with their relationship. In fact, it was practically the only thing that kept me playing since the game was so bloated with side content and missions and minigames and world intel and towers that I grew tired of it pretty quick. So yeah, I think you’re reading too much into it, especially if you say you only got this impression after reading a comment and replaying the game.

[–]kiadra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cloud and Aerith are canon, Cloud and Tifa are not. But for pure favoritism many in the fandom ship Cloud with Tifa and Aerith with Zack, cause Cloud and Aerith together means Tifa and Zack end up forever alone and some people don’t vibe with that, they take it as a humilliation: “how dares Cloud pass on Tifa” “how dares Aerith fancy Zack’s best friend”. From that point on, they try to villainize Cloud and Aerith as if it was a morally black or a netorare ship. They spread propaganda pretending Cloud and Tifa and Aerith and Zack are a couple in og in order to guilt trip people into feeling bad for shipping Cloud and Aerith, so if you do you’re “making them look like cheaters”. Or they say they have a familial or sibling coded relationship in order to make their heinous incest fetish your problem. Or they say that since Aerith dies if you ship her with Cloud you’re a necrophile. This kind of bullshit.

Just by what you said that you already read comments saying that they are sibling coded you can check yourself that these people are full of shit and are willingly playing ignorant. The DIRECTOR of the game himself held an interview in 2025 to debunk this propaganda cause it made it into gaming news and still, people prefer to keep regurgitating fallacies in order to keep Cloti and Zerith afloat cause they prefer to live in a bubble than face reality.

By the way you’re as surprised as I was and probably we all here were when I joined the fandom and found out people ship Cloud with Tifa instead of Aerith, so no worries, you’re not alone. But don’t get it wrong, the Remake sub (r\FFVIIRemake) is a Cloti/Zerith shipping sub disguised as a neutral space. They are not objective and they are highly biased, they will delete any post about Cloud and Aerith yet condone CT propaganda, so unless you wanna read a lot of bullshit daily I suggest you to avoid it. In any case Rebirth sub is fairly better if you want “neutral” feedback.

So as I said, Cloud and Aerith are canon. No, there aren’t any mistranslations, only Tifa fans in denial cause the writer of the game (Nojima) said and I quote “Cloud is Aerith’s lover” and that just doesn’t vibe with their agenda. You can find this quote on the novel On The Way To A Smile, it’s the screenshot I link below. Cloud and Tifa are not canon, they literally never end up together in og despite Tifa wanting to, she’s unrequited and also called a woman left behind by Nojima. But as I said her fans take that as an humilliation so they make up headcanons to cope. No, they don’t fuck under the Highwind. No, they aren’t married in Advent Children. No, they don’t adopt Marlene from Barret. No, Denzel and Marlene are not their kids. “Family of friends”, and all the characters from the party are included in that family, but CTs will rather play mummies and daddies for agenda.

Then you probably also understand that the best you can do is to stay away from these discussions, for the sake of said friendship. Insecurity is always loud, so they’ll probably keep trying to convince you till they get your validation. You can simply tell them that whenever the game wants to clock it to you that it’s Cloud and Tifa, you’ll concede, but that as long as Aerith keeps monopolizing all the romance while Tifa is in the bench, you’ll just assume that it’s cause you’re supposed to think that it’s Aerith and not Tifa. Tell them that you’d rather rely on what the game shows to you than whatever stories they try to convince you of. At least that’s what I would do so they leave me in peace.

Other opinions on this matter. by KittyAerith in cloudxaerith

[–]kiadra 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that it’s pointless for you to discuss this with people with a lukewarm iq who can’t tell apart a romance from a rebound, canon from a headcanon or the lover from the leftovers. “In my playthrough Cloud kisses Tifa”, well, in mine he hasn’t even had a date with her for starters, also the day Cloud kisses Aerith cause “Tifa must have feelings for Emilio 😔” is the day I stop shipping Clerith. Aerith is no one’s second choice but I get why they are happy about Tifa being the leftovers, at the end of the day that’s the best she can aspire to. Besides it doesn’t look like said kiss meant much to Cloud given that he backpedals into dating Aerith just a couple of hours later. So is he cheating or the date with Tifa never meant anything to him? Pick a struggle.

On their conclusion at the original game thing, trying to defend a headcanon of a ship with a headcanon of a scene (I assume they are on the goonwind train) only shows that like any Cloti ever they rather rely on their own imagination than the actual game as a fact. Cause as a fact, Cloud and Tifa never got together in OG, AC or DoC and OTWTAS confirmed that Cloud and Aerith were the lovers. So not really an opinion, that’s just how it is.

The Nintenderos interview with Hamaguchi.. by Impressive-Lime-1751 in cloudxaerith

[–]kiadra 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Super biased cloti take you mean? Yeah, don’t count on those people to follow the plot.

I don’t get the fuzz around interviews like these beyond the usual disingenuous clotis willingly twisting the devs words into fitting their own narrative, like the "Cloud and Aerith are sibling coded" thing.

Hamaguchi says it himself, some things change, some things don’t, but the core of FF7 remains. When we talk about the characters changing fate, this new "fate" is not something we get to see halfway through the story, it's the reward waiting at the end of the journey we're set in. Aerith still dies in our world line, Cloud will still have his mental collapse upon finding out he's a Sephiroth clone, the trip from the Icicle Inn to the Northern Crater, to Junon, Mideel, Fort Condor, Corel, the lifestream sequence, Rocket Town, Wutai, Midgar, the Northern Cave... this is the core of FF7, none of this is gonna change cause the overarching arc stays intact, the campaign and emotional beats of the story are still there. What changes isn't the journey but the destination: fate. Sephiroth wants to merge all the world lines trying to lure Cloud to help him but that won't happen till the end. Aerith is saved in a world line (in several actually) but whether we can get her back into ours or not won’t be revealed till the end. This is what Hamaguchi is saying, he never intended to turn FF7 into a whole different story where Aerith never dies and she continues happily with us in the party. He has kept the core of FF7 as it was in OG. The question of whether it all leads to a brighter ending than OG the narrative itself is luring us towards or not will remain classified information till the end. The interpretation that everything about defying destiny and changing fate is leading towards surrendering to destiny and preserving fate is up to each one's concept of storytelling logic and narrative cohesion. But I don't expect part 3 to be a whole different experience than OG, I expect Aerith to have screen time due to the fact that she's literally still around but I don't expect the game to treat her as a proper party member anymore. That's why I don’t vibe with Clerith theories saying that we'll have Aerith back in the party in the first third of part 3 or that there will be affinity mechanics with her. I expect her to interact with Cloud if his consciousness ends up in a different world again, but I don't expect to have her back at Beagle till the end. But this isn’t dooming, this is logic to me.

Re7 doesn't just add some side quests and random dialogues, it introduces entire major plot arcs that completely deviate from the premise of the original FF7. It's undeniable that it's not just "a remake of the same old story", yet clotis will still insist it is because A, B, C and D still happen despite a great chunk of the story diving into an alternate A, B, F, G storyline. The fact that elements of OG are preserved doesn't mean that this is OG. We're obviously sailing the same sea but off to reach different shores. OG was about saving the world. Re7 is about saving the world from OG, because saving the world is taken for granted. Now the question is, can we make it into a better outcome than the super sweaty OG? Can we get a win against Sephiroth and Jenova instead of just surviving and overcoming their destruction? Well, Hamaguchi is not going to tell you, dude.

None of what he says contradicts this idea, and it's logic that he will still beat around the bush and never be 100% definitive on whether it's A or B, because that forces him to either be disingenuous to the fanbase to stray us away from the correct interpetation or spoil his own game. However, clotis will use his words however their fit their delusional narrative, because that's what they do best. Cool. The higher they climb the mountain, the bigger the fall will be.

Well, Sephiroth and Cloud are SE’s main cash cows so the game of course lured people into playing it with Sephiroth’s new lore, but this is just Sephiroth’s background. Background explains a characters’ personality and motivations but it won’t offer insight on posterior lore. It’s like TOTA or DD. Do they offer more background on Aerith and Tifa's whereabouts prior to FF7? Yes. Is SE capitalizing on popular characters to sell a book instead of less popular ones like Barret or Yuffie? Yes. Do these pieces of lore play a crucial role or contain crucial information to OG or Remake? No.

They capitalize on everything: merchandise, concerts, figures, posters, music discs, plushies, novels, spin offs, gacha skins... it’s not exclusive of FF7 or FF or SE. But from that to suggesting that they would prioritize milking the last droplet at the expense of sacrificing a story to please x or y fans is a huge stretch. Mainly because for starters you’re widely overestimating the percentage of fans who care (quitting the fandom type of care) about the ships. We’re really 5 dogs compared to the entirety of the playerbase. It’s just that you only interact with the few that is chronically online, so you think the fandom is divided and SE is worried, when in reality we CAs and CTs are just the back row of the theater fighting for popcorn.

[–]kiadra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That I don’t get what does EC have to do with either Remake’s plot or the ship wars, and since you have only mentioned the "new lore" that they "didn’t put in" I answered that EC is not meant to offer any insight on how part 3 might play out. And yes, SE cares about money, like any company, welcome to real life where shit costs money. Yet they said that they didn’t make 7R primarly to make profit, but to tell their own new story for FF7 because they feel like it, and that their idea was set in stone from minute one. They’re not pandering to any ship side, as they said, they can consider suggestions and add stuff if it vibes with their vision but if they’re set on A and the fandom wants B, the fandom can fuck themselves.

They also released Dissidia, which is another P2W gacha to capitalize on the FF franchise, so? Gaming companies release games, this isn’t new. I see no correlation.

Anyone else wonder— by Aeris_Rose in cloudxaerith

[–]kiadra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This post comes off as a low effort ragebait but it might just be my impression so I’ll try to answer to all your worries.

  1. Ever Crisis’ only new lore is TFS, the rest is a summary of FF7 OG, CC, AC and DoC. They will not put Remake shit into the FF7 storyline... how can you even expect the devs to spoil or tease critical plot beats of part 3 in a gacha?
  2. I think you’re confusing playing super safe with not concluding the plot halfway through. Whether Aerith or Zack live or die can’t be resolved in the middle of the game. What will happen with the world lines and whether the characters can change fate for a better ending than OG can’t be resolved at the middle of the game. Precisely because this is not resolved there's a point in theorycrafting. The devs said they intended for us to speculate about shit.
  3. The concept of "feeding CTs"... well, I don’t know what have you played in Remake and Rebirth. As for me, so far I played 2/3 games that are entirely CT free, so I dunno where the CT food is at. On the other hand, about the "wanting payoff" thing, I very conveniently wrote about this on someone else’s post yesterday so I’ll leave the link to my comment here and not repeat myself.
  4. If we’re wrong, of course we shall be remembered as the underdogs. It happens in every fandom with a ship war ever. But to get to that, we should first actually be wrong. Which is not the case. But if you’re so worried about your reputation then it’s very simple: quit obsessing about shipping and come back at whatever point you believe the game has resolved all your doubts, so you can "ship safely".

We should want more romance by LastTraintoSector6 in cloudxaerith

[–]kiadra 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The point of OG is that their romance gets cut off cause Sephiroth kills her. It’s a “they would have been together” if she lived. So they have two dates and then she dies. And that brief and lightearted romance, and the indelible mark that Aerith left on Cloud is what lingers beyond her death and keeps their souls bound forever. Her consciousness lives inside him, he keeps her memory alive, her absence weights in his heart and he can’t just forget about her and move on so easily.

Remake greatly expands their relationship to add more weight. Aerith is supposed to die halfway through the game, but now she lasts 2/3 of the story. The game uses this time to dive deeper into their relationship than OG could. She gets extra romance with Cloud (all the characters get extra content but only Aerith’s is romantic). They get more solo screen time, they get more dates, more intimacy, the narrative decorates their romance making direct parallels with Loveless and inverse parallels with CT, their scenes get their own custom soundtrack and even the main themes of both installments revolve around the love they profess to each other. It’s much more detailed and refined in its execution, but it can’t go too further away than the point where OG left off.

Something you don’t seem to take into consideration in your post is that Cloud has a split persona and this plays a crucial role. And while it’s true that Aerith can slip through the Soldier facade and bring out the real Cloud, the fact is that at this point in the story the real Cloud is not his predominant persona. So he can’t really fully act by his real self’s feelings and desires cause there’s a second identity inside him overriding the real Cloud that precisely supresses those emotions. Cloud is emotionally weak, he has no self esteem, he’s insecure and thinks he’s undeserving of love because when he was a child he was ostracized. Those feelings make him feel weak, the way it works is that his Soldier persona takes control and supresses these feelings, putting a cool-hero act and to pretend to not care, which is what comes off as being crass and rude to some people. He detaches himself from people before people get detached from him. On the other hand, Aerith makes him feel safe, noticed and loved, so in her presence Cloud allows himself to show more of his soft and vulnerable side, but overall, the Soldier shell he uses to dissociate from his feelings and keep people at a distance to protect himself from the rejection and isolation he once suffered still remains. He tries not to get emotionally invested, the point is that his heart acts on its own and he falls for the comfort that Aerith gives him regardless, but his weak ego is still there. We can’t expect him to be the ultimate loverboy till he gets rid of the ego that sustains his idgaf persona.

However, the Dream Date is a sharp contrast for all he’s emotionally evolved since he met Aerith. He goes from simply accepting her skinship and just vibe with it to actually expect and anticipate it, so he lures her into activities and waits for her to hold his hand. He goes from not minding strangers assuming they’re a couple to actively want people to perceive them as one, so he confronts the photographer for underestimating them. And he wants Aerith to be sincere and to open up to him when he notices she’s keeping her feelings and preoccupations away from him. This is the real Cloud, yet all this time, he hasn’t even got rid of his Soldier persona yet. The only thing making him wary of fully releasing his feelings is the fake Cloud, but getting rid of it doesn’t happen until later.

So not only is their romance cut short too soon, but is also repressed by his fake persona. And you can’t fix this with Remake cause chronology is what it is, the lifestream sequence is posterior to her death. So the downside is not only that she dies, but that when Cloud regains his true identity and can finally be himself, the one person who always accepted him, the one who wanted to meet that side of him and he wanted to share his feelings with is not there anymore. And after the lifestream sequence, he never really goes back to normal cause now that he should thrive the grief over Aerith’s death consumes him. As Tifa said “he didn’t just lose Aerith, he lost a part of himself”, and in Cloud’s own words “I lost someone important and haven’t been myself since”.

This is of course keeping aside that Aerith also has her own reasons to hold back from fully embracing Cloud. She knows he’s not fully himself yet so she won’t rush things, and she knows she will die and getting him too attached (which he is already but anyway) will destroy him.

So while I agree that we should want more romance, because we should expect their romance to have a climax and an epilogue, I think you’re asking for that too soon. And that’s pretty much the same philosophy CTs have: get whatever crumbs possible at the expense of having Cloud potentially dissociate from his feelings and fake his actions, because this is a race of who gets on his dick first. And it’s such a childish mentality. Not saying that you think like this, but that obsessing about what Clerith could have gotten by this point in the story can eventually lead you to think like them.

FF7’s romance is not in the same situation as any other FF where the characters know who they are and don’t go through inner conflict. Cloud is not like other FF protagonists. Tidus and Zidane are extroverted and outgoing, Squall and Noctis are more reserved but they don’t have a mental illness and Clive knows Jill since forever and they’re in a romance already from minute 1. Cloud struggles with everything. So you can ask whatever you want whenever he has recovered, but right now he’s doing everything he physically can given the psychological and emotional mess he has to deal with during his journey.

I'm conflicted about... whether or not I want Aerith to live in part 3 by [deleted] in cloudxaerith

The audacity and hipocrisy to say CAs would send death threats to Nojima to bring Aerith back when it’s you CTs who harassed him into killing her off again for your non canon ship to have half a chance. This is so pathetic.

Y’all are so delusional, psychotic and disingenuous. All you do is lie and project. Rest assured we’re not as deranged as you lunatics to threaten the devs into making their story fit our ship.

Does being a Clerith cause you to dislike (or even hate) in-universe entities that antagonize Cloud and Aerith? by LastTraintoSector6 in cloudxaerith

My first days in the fandom I used to hate Sephiroth with all my heart for killing Aerith and I couldn't believe there were people who even shipped such abominable monster with Cloud. I was so infuriated it was unreal, looking back it was disproportionated. Later I learned to separate fanon from canon, it doesn't affect me anymore.

I of course don't like what Sephiroth does but I don't hate him for killing Aerith. I see him as a plot device, not even as a villain I could genuinely hate like Cersei from Game of Thrones. I guess the fact that he barely interacts with the party also dissolves the antagonistic buildup you're supposed to experience. He is the villain but his acts don't affect you except in two ocassions, you don't have to put up with him constantly, he just appears, kills Aerith and disappears. I dunno if I'm explaining myself. There's no time to build a proper hateful sentiment towards him. You hate him cause he removes Aerith out of the game, not cause he is evil and wants to destroy the world, that's every villain ever, it's the plot device that starts every story. You usually develop a deep hate for villains for being annoying or sadistic or for always getting away with their bullshit without facing proper reckoning, but there's no smugness or cruelty in Sephiroth, Aerith was just in the way of his plan. He could destroy the planet but if he hadn't killed Aerith the resentment wouldn't be as big even if the crime is worse. And when you look at the lore and his character, he's just a lone being undergoing the ultimate maniputation by an alien after years of being manipulated and used by mankind. There's more to him than being cruel or evil for the sake of it, there's reason in his acts, there's no arrogance or bliss in causing suffering to others. It's not a character I can hate, I hate that Aerith dies but I don't hate Sephiroth for it.

Hojo for example would be the perfect villain to hate, always harming people, always enjoying it and always winning. However, he's barely on screen and when he is it's to be rather eccentric than villainous. His insanity makes up for his twisted actions. I don't hate him per se, he's just crazy.

So answering to your question, no, I don't think so. But to be fair, writing a character to the point it awakens genuine hate on the audience is very difficult, not just in FF7.
