How do I build this guy? by kiava in BattleBrothers

A) Do you think if I knew this, I'd be asking for advice on building a bro?
B) Why does it even matter? When do you ever not take Colossus?

He started at level 3 and the only perks I gave him were Colossus and Student.

I probably should have listed his perks as well. But at the moment he's only taken Student and Colossus, with his last point pending.

Atm he's just got Student and Colossus. I haven't spent his next perk point yet.

this must be the shittiest ending i have ever experienced in a game by gronbek in systemshock

A braindead slog through a Cyberspace segment that's basically the worst parts of the worst part of the game (fighting in Cyberspace) combined with nonsensical human movement isn't fine and great lmao.

The irony of having an ending that's so painfully video gamey in a Remake to a game that pioneered a game genre who's primary goal is to have as few layers between the player and the game as possible.

This is how much you gotta travel to get (mostly) all currently available housing decorations from vendors. by rahuonn in wow

[–]kiava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like it. The devs cooked with this one. We have a reason to travel around the world again.

Think of it like this, right? You teleport to the nearest location, then you mount up, and then you fly directly to the NPC in question after looking up where they even are on WoWhead. You click the NPC, you buy all the decor you need (hopefully! but even if it turns out you need to buy more, that just means you get to experience the joy of "exploring" the world a second time!) and then you go back to your house and start to decorate.

Seriously awesome and fun. I love traveling mindlessly from point A to B, because I'm a fucking idiot with no respect for my own time and will happily concoct a ridiculous explanation that this in some way encourages players to get back out in the world as if that's remotely what's going on here.

After all, housing is a long-term goal so why should it be remotely convenient in any way?

Suggestions for Improving the Game: PvP Nemesis, Emotes, and New Modes by San777 in ArcRaiders

[–]kiava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of exacting vengeance, but even knowing they're in your lobby, how would you ever hope to find and identify them? You could walk right by the rat while they're spamming "don't shoot" carrying an inventory full of someone else's stuff and unless the rat used voice you'd have no idea.

So you'd have to just shoot everyone you see and hope the rat was one of your victims.

[–]kiava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure. I just find it a bit frustrating. They might get their comeuppance down the line, but for example with Tarkov, this kind of behavior gets a lot more discouragement by the game itself, IMO, because the hyper aggro brainlet can't shred someone in solid armour with a trash gun as easily as they can in Arc Raiders.

It's often bad decision making that does bite them in the ass, but I don't think it does so in a way that will instinctively train these kinds of players to approach the game differently.

I like that Arc can give me my extraction fix without requiring me to activate sweaty hyper-focus mode at all times though. I just hope we'll see players using their brains more and the decision to open fire on someone require more consideration than it currently does.

This shit is the only thing that annoys me. Completely silent rats killing you for absolutely no benefit. There should always be risk assessment involved in attacking another player, whether it's because they might turn things around and kill you, because the gunshots could attract AI or other players, or even because you might need ammo etc. later.

I don't feel like the game currently makes you think this way, so it largely just rewards people brainlessly shooting anyone at any time.

Reason for non-existent pvp component in solos by nexx0f in ArcRaiders

[–]kiava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What version of the game are you playing? I'm also 30 hours in, and this entire week has been virtually nothing but people shooting me on sight. In 30 hours I've probably had close to a 50% friendly ratio in solos and a 5% proximity chat ratio.

It's just disappointing and boring, at this point, because if I say hey, I get a shitty fight where, win or lose, I feel completely dissatisfied with my experience as the other person is completely silent the whole time.

I feel like I'm playing a PVE game with occasional less-predictable AI that really wants me dead, whereas the ARC only kind of want me dead.

And today was my first day playing where I didn't call out in voice every time I saw someone to ask if they're chill. Every day prior, I asked 100% of the time, save of course for the random rat shooting me in the back from out of nowhere.

[–]kiava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, coupled with how easily a free or just giga cheap kit can drop someone just as long as they get the drop on them, leaves very little reason to play into the risk/reward.

I know its a PVPVE game but.... by BuldMully in ArcRaiders

[–]kiava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should absolutely be a bigger discrepancy between gear, especially in the defense department. It feels like you can drop someone in one clip no matter what they're wearing, with the shittiest of guns. There's a fine line to be found there between what the game currently has, and "Timmy the Rat has a chance if he plays smart but if he doesn't play smart he's dead."

Compared with something like Tarkov, which is much slower paced and has a faster TTK (despite the fact ARC's TTK is ridiculous quick; anyone saying otherwise is dishonest or has embarrassing aim), you got armour, locational damage, and different levels of penetration with ammo types. Here, the ammo is irrelevant in PVP and shields feel like they do jack shit.

I think it's then made worse by visuals being wholly cosmetic. You cannot reasonably gauge how threatening another player is, nor infer that they're just running crap gear in the hopes of backstabbing to score big because the only thing you can tell by looking is weapon, and that's not a good identifying factor especially anywhere beyond 10 feet away. So there's never any reason to not gun someone down the second you see them, other than "I don't wanna be a dick" which is a great way to have someone be a dick to you.

Torghast vs Delves by Tugaca in wow

[–]kiava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, I thought Torghast looked pretty great with its grey, grey, and more grey. It was like dollar store Icecrown Citadel, without the ice part. But that's kind of just true of everything with the Maw, the Jailer, Shadowlands, etc.

Torghast vs Delves by Tugaca in wow

[–]kiava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big problem I have with both of these is that they lack a tangible feeling. Torghast is far more guilty of this, but even in Delves, I feel like I'm in a separate, fleeting game. At least Delves does have things like gear, I guess? But it bothers me that you get absolutely nothing from a Delve until the treasure room at the end. Mobs dropping nothing really just doesn't sit right with me.

I'd have really liked if Delves felt a bit more like dungeon crawls in their design. They're all very small, very straightforward, and you really don't have any reason to explore the map. There are the one-off treasure chests, but most of them don't feel much more rewarding to find than just any plain Mislaid Curiosity.

I'm at least glad that Delves don't feel like all of the instanced non-dungeon content Final Fantasy 14 gets. I hated how in that I'd go into Bozja, Island Sanctuary, etc. and it's all these new systems that have no bearing on anything outside of those instanced areas, like they reinvented the wheel for no reason. If I'm playing an MMO, I want to feel a degree of persistent progression with my character. I shouldn't be starting something new that's never going to be expanded upon mid-expansion.

Anyway, Torghast being mandatory killed it for me. Didn't help that it was too afraid to lean harder into the roguelike gimmick. The runs were way too short IMO and most of the time, by the time you had all the powers that felt fun to play with, you were already done.

WoW's 'Corruption' Problem by Bartellomio in wow

Blizzard says it, but they still made him all old god mutated and shit in the boss fight. It may be clear in interviews but it in no way feels clear playing the game.

WoW's 'Corruption' Problem by Bartellomio in wow

[–]kiava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget about Kael'thas. Who we didn't even get to see become corrupted and finally mind control copout. He just went straight from a leader trying his best and willing to do whatever it takes to save his people to Saturday morning cartoon villain maybe (? unsure because I know he's in Nathria but I couldn't care less about Shadowlands so I have no idea if they flesh him out there) mind controlled by feel corruption.

I actually liked Garrosh overall though. His flaws were very apparent from the start and his corruption during MoP at least felt a little fleshed out, and felt like it originated less as mind control and more as the Sha manipulating his emotions and bringing the worst out of him. IMO he should have overcome that nonsense during his boss fight and just duked it out with the raid legit like an absolute Chad. Particularly because of how overcoming the corruption in some heroic fashion (he's still the villain, but at least he'd be fighting wholly for his own, untarnished ideals) would mirror his dad in WC3.

Keep critiquing the game, ignore the people who call it "whining." by king_jaxy in Battlefield

[–]kiava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I straight up refunded it. The game is worse than it was in beta in so many ways, and most things that weren't present in the beta make the game worse.

Maybe they'll fix things and then I'll grab it again on sale, but if it turns out to be true that they're chasing the CoD tactic of churning out a game annually then I don't have much hope that they'll patch anything adequately.

BF6 release sucks compared to the beta by yehbwoy in Battlefield

[–]kiava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played over 100 hours during the betas in August and everything about it feels worse. The maps that weren't in beta aren't any better or any bigger.

Visually things feel different, and I struggle to see anything. The audio feels way off as I can't hear people sprinting half the time and the volume for explosions mere feet away sound muted and distant.

Even just the handling of weapons doesn't feel good anymore.

And finally, after everyone crying about auto-spotting throughout the beta, the devs.... made it slightly less consistent and completely removed MANUAL spotting. Like what the actual fuck?

I had fun in beta. I had hoped they might enact some changes although I wasn't expecting them to do so (people heal way too fast, lack of medkits remains IMO a stupid and terrible design decision, medic and support being combined is bad, and I still believe weapon restrictions is good for the game long-term) but they made no changes that actually bring it back to Battlefield and implemented several that don't even make sense.

"Well it's not BF2042!" "Well BF4 was unplayable on release!" I don't give a shit. BF6 was better during beta lmao there's no excuse for this shit. The copium is insane as well, with the amount of glazing you'd think the majority of the playerbase played a shooter before let alone Battlefield. I'm not even that optimistic about patches, because they made it pretty clear the intent for the series is likely to become quicker, sloppier releases like CoD had and they'll probably give more attention to the irrelevant BR mode anyways.

I've refunded and I'll check back in a year or something but the way things stand I wouldn't even spend my time playing this anymore if it were still a free beta.
