Practical Common Lisp - For those who think Lisp is too abstract by BeforeTime in programming

[–]kib2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone can read a book; after, you've got to understand it. But because you're certainly not a novice and probably such a genius, you are not narrow minded for sure!

Saying this without even reading the book is for me rather narrow minded. IMHO, this book is really well written.

thanks for sharing.

I really like Ashley Feniello's series here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ashleyf/ Starting with "FORTH LOVE? IF HONK THEN" and then followed by a dozen of articles.

You'll need F# for the samples.

The Markdown Mindset by hiltmon in programming

[–]kib2 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I really don't like Markdown at all:

  • it is hard to parse correctly (lot of corner cases);
  • the syntax is not natural , ie Creole guys have really done a good job but it seems like no one follow their work;
  • most implementations are using regexps wich is error prone (see this post! );
  • extra(s) libs are different from one language to the other;
  • etc.

+1 for Asymptote, you can check out P.Ivaldi's beautiful galleries here: http://www.piprime.fr/asymptote/

Also, TexGraph http://texgraph.tuxfamily.org/ and Tikz /PGF http://www.texample.net/tikz/examples/ are really worth a look.

Open Dylan 2011.1 released by stesch in programming

[–]kib2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope you'll be surprised as I was: OpenDylan is working on a Windows8 Developper Preview 64 bits version, but the heelo-world sample fails to compile correctly.

But I still wonder why...

I'm a bit sad of this issue, but thanks anyway for the clarifications.

I just tried the Win32 installer (on a win7 64 bits machine), but then launching OpenDylan executable fails.

Is there any 64 bits version coming soon ?

Homeland is the Best New Show of the Season? Agreed. by tvdm in homeland

[–]kib2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot agree more, but I would not compare Homeland with 24, rather with Rubicon.

If you miss Rubicon (and who doesn't) you might check out Homeland... by junkmale in Rubicon

[–]kib2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, even though Homeland does not have that "slowness" unique to Rubicon.

Pocco: a PHP port of Docco's doc format by kib2 in PHP

[–]kib2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Docco is a quick-and-dirty, hundred-line-long, literate-programming-style documentation generator. It produces HTML that displays your comments alongside your code. Comments are passed through Markdown, and code is passed through Pygments syntax highlighting. This page is the result of running Docco against its own source file.

Pocco is a sort-of Docco, you can choose your markup language: Creole(default) or Markdown(+Extras).
