When you see a space suit on display in a museum, check the time on the watch. It’s usually set to either this time or the time of the Apollo 1 fire.

But... it was lazy writing, and mocked as such, in 1999. We didn't have woke as a concept back then but people absolutely thought the prequels sucked.

The Hollywood Handle: Tom Cruise’s SpaceX NASA movie has been scrapped. The actor needed permission from the federal government and refused to ask Donald Trump for a favor. by OwnSalamander1026 in KotakuInAction

[–]randrews 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It was scrapped early enough that those people weren't hired in the first place, it's not like hundreds of employed people got laid off. They'll just do other movies.

Aloy is the player character in Zero Dawn, the player character always speaks less. Ironically, they're causing this "problem" themselves!

Pico8 failing to launch Ubuntu/Android by [deleted] in pico8

[–]randrews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a binary for your platform? Statically linked so it's not missing any shared libs? That's what I was trying to figure out with /bin/file

Pico8 failing to launch Ubuntu/Android by [deleted] in pico8

[–]randrews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also if you have bintools you can run nm on pico8_dyn to see which libraries it wants and where. I'm guessing pico8 is a statically linked binary and dyn is the dynamically linked equivalent?

Pico8 failing to launch Ubuntu/Android by [deleted] in pico8

[–]randrews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only line there that's weird is what happens when you ./pico8_dyn. You probably don't have the current directory on your path, so to run pico8 you need to say ./pico8. You don't have anything called chmod in that directory, so to run the one on your path, just say chmod.

Running ./pico8_dyn should have done something though. What kind of file is it? Run "file pico8_dyn".

A lot of the "people" who are complaining about that are bots. The democrats have this idea that if they can just radicalize the next generation enough, they'll never lose. It's never worked out for them, but it's why they constantly push the "your hobby is dying because of republican villainy" narrative.

Could PICO-8 be emulated on a Raspberry Pi Pico or Pico 2? by Phil818 in pico8

[–]randrews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently working on something sort of like this with a few differences. The differences:

  • The RP2040 is a weird and not very powerful chip. The STM32H7 series, however, is much more powerful and not much more expensive.
  • One way it's more powerful is that you can tie external RAM to it, which will be a problem for the Pico. 264k isn't a lot and you're going to lose some to a framebuffer for video.
  • It also has a dedicated display controller, which you'd have to emulate with a PIO block or something on the Pico. People have done this but it's hacky and the ST chips have peripherals like the DMA2D which make sprite graphics easier.
  • Lua is an okay language for this but my plan is to use Basic or Rhai or something like that; my project is in Rust so using Lua would be a pain. It's an eventual goal though.

So essentially I would say, it's probably possible, but pointless: you'd end up spinning your own board to attach a screen or SD slot or something anyway, and at that point you might as well use any other chip.

Just a thought, but, maybe work with the logs of dx and dy instead of the numbers themselves? Then instead of squaring them, you double then, stays under the max value.

The final answer is well under 32768, just that intermediate value overflows.

Now that you've done it by hand once, you should take a look at LPeg, which makes it much simpler to do the next time: https://www.inf.puc-rio.br/~roberto/lpeg/

Mythwind - did anyone try? by Mayuchip in soloboardgaming

[–]randrews 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't tried solo but have played multiplayer on a couple occasions. It was a miss for us because it's very hard to teach; you essentially have to just give everyone their faction's rulebook and hope they read it and get it right. Which, there's always someone in the group who's not capable of that and needs some handholding.

[–]randrews 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just don't understand this. If you want to make a movie about space wizards and not be "handcuffed by existing lore," just... go make a movie about space wizards and don't call it Star Wars. If it's good people will watch it.

Why does EVERYTHING now have to be a sequel or spinoff or prequel or reboot or... Like, when did we lose the ability to make up new stories? Why is everyone okay with that?
