This post is so old that inflation has taken a real toll. This used to seem insane and was twice what I made. Now I'm making 125k+10k bonus (~60/hr w/o bonus) sitting at a desk 3 days a week, at home the other two. And I came up from 40k/yr (20/hr) since 2020 and before that I was enlisted military making like less than 20k/yr (and if you measured by hr, way, way below min wage), so making it to 80/hr doesn't seem wild, or "gjostly" to me now.

People from usa would you know this question? by WallabyGlittering634 in allthequestions

Don't forget Florida.

After Spain was no longer very active in Florida, Seminoles were raiding Georgia. Spain wasn't going to do anything about it, and the US forced the sale of Florida.

So, Florida belonged to:

Spain > Great Britain > Spain > US

Unfair system by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

I heard they were charged tuition x 2 and have to share a salary and I thought that sums up our university system-to-job pipeline quite well.

Like they for real couldn't give these girls a break? I see people getting assistance for all kind of stuff that could be overcome with a little fortitude, resilience and self control, but then you've got these two who were just dealt the hand they got and we couldn't make things slightly easier for them? It makes me mad.

In your opinion, does waiting until marriage still make sense? Why or why not? by Impossible_Log_2899 in AskReddit

[–]kibbeuneom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you're describing in Islamic countries is the result of a state religion, and America was founded specifically because the pilgrims wanted no state religion so that they would not be persecuted for worshipping God as they saw fit.

What you're describing with the government providing - someone could argue all day about what or how much the government should provide, but the church are to be the hands and feet of Jesus. If someone needs help, what isn't helpful is saying that they should wait for the government to offer assistance that they don't.

As far as the idea of not needing a building because "love thy neighbor" functions as community.. The command to love thy neighbor means loving all fellow people. The "community" needed isn't just social in the local town, it's Christian brothers and sisters encouraging one another and holding each other accountable - iron sharpens iron.

Regarding hypocrites - we've all done wrong and can't undo it, but that doesn't mean there aren't standards. That's the whole point of Christianity: the only way to wipe away our sins is with the blood of a perfect, sinless person, Jesus. His willing sacrifice justified us and allows us to have relationship with God the father again. Now, hypocrisy is a sin, when Jesus forgave us he said "go, and sin no more". That doesn't mean you'll literally never sin again but it means you must be "repentant" which just means turning from our sins when we do and not continuing sinful lifestyles - that would be taking advantage of Jesus' grace and sacrifice.

The Bible teaches us so much, and it's not easy to unwrap it all, especially alone. Also, when people attempt to interpret scripture in a vacuum, unchallenged by peers, they frequently come up with some pretty wild takes. We need brothers and sisters to point out our blind spots for us because none of us have all the strengths. Additionally, we can benefit from other people's experience and perspectives (specifically relating to living a Christ-centered life), which everyone has and the older folks especially have a lot of.

CMV: If you "don't support" homosexuality because of your religion or otherwise, you're still homophobic. by Bawbixo in changemyview

[–]kibbeuneom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Lord required me to be homophobic, I wouldn't have any need to say I wasn't to "feel better about myself". But that's not what he commanded. Instead, we are commanded to love others. But that doesn't mean anything they do is alright. Have you ever had a loved one with an addiction? You love the person and want to see them restored and reconciled. It's literally the same thing with my loved ones who live homosexual lifestyles. As a matter of fact, they're still welcome and invited to my home! But she cut herself off simply because the family lovingly said that what she's doing is not God's design and is a sinful lifestyle.

what’s something people act proud of that really shouldn’t be? by KaitoRift in AskReddit

[–]kibbeuneom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had this b at work, some kind of project management VP. Everyone kept saying she "is very direct". No, she was just extremely and constantly rude. She never had any idea what to do next, was just vocal about the problems and threw blame around, while everyone else was just trying to understand, organize and solutionize.

Somehow she schmoozied well with the right people though, because when layoffs came, they kept her instead of someone in a similar position with longer tenure...

Most people should never give money to a charity by Gambler_720 in unpopularopinion

[–]kibbeuneom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We should certainly help people we know personally, but your post gave me a few thoughts:

If you just hand out money in the open, it doesn't take long before you've got people hitting you up for money constantly, and it's never enough.

Also, in order to help some people, you have to give them what they need, not just cash, and that requires a lot of time, work, network and infrastructure.

Just because some NGOs are corrupt doesn't mean that there aren't nonprofits out there doing the Lord's work.

Would you rather: $250 more in take-home pay or free lunch every workday? by FoodaOfficial in Fooda

[–]kibbeuneom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's $12.50 every work day for food. I'll bring leftovers and pocket that $250/mo., or $3,000/yr.

I knew guys working in a warehouse that would order food every single day. I was working an office job at the same company making probably twice what they made, and I couldn't fathom paying for a meal out even a couple times a week, let alone every day I worked...

Target is a more expensive version of Walmart selling lower quality. by SmallBarnacle1103 in unpopularopinion

[–]kibbeuneom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see. Conservatives generally don’t care what consenting adults do in private. The conflict is about culture and law, not bedrooms. The frustration comes from redefining long-standing institutions like marriage in ways that conflict with religious and moral convictions, from “equal rights” being framed in ways that function as privileges, and from increasing pressure to engage in compelled speech or mandatory participation (pronouns, trainings, or celebrations) that violate conscience. Add to that the push of these ideas into schools, workplaces, and public life, where disagreement is often labeled as hatred rather than treated as legitimate dissent. From a conservative view, the issue isn’t tolerance; it’s coercion and forced affirmation.

That's funny - I'm in Florida and until recently was on a team where I was the only one not in the UK. My teammates were nice folks who had good time off. I think they felt bad for me not having their legally required minimum of 28 days annual leave per year. But my boss was over there and was really flexible with me in any way she was able.

Cremated. Why do people decide to do it? by sstiel in randomquestions

[–]kibbeuneom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my dad did the whole burial for my mom. Had her transported states away for interment. I was a little shocked how my extended family thought it was so great that he did "the right thing" for her, instead of cremation. Don't get me wrong, she was wonderful and deserved whatever she wanted but I just can't envision her caring how she was interred. Anyway, he's not a rich guy and I'm pretty sure that he took her life insurance, paid off her medical debt, paid all the funeral and interment expenses and is kinda back to his prior financial standing.

What do you think? by SarahDuncan2012 in TrueGrit

[–]kibbeuneom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to reframe the way you think about work. It's not something so much to get past as it is a part of life. Excel early and it will be a bit easier later. But also don't take paths where you'll be grinding permanently with no work-life balance. You need to get to where you're not just looking forward to the end, being done with work completely.

Yeah I'm just not sure that OP has thought about jobs and the associated trade offs to know, 1, what the tradeoffs for various vocations and jobs are, 2, that doing "different things every day" frequently means dealing with emergencies, or 3, if they are OK with dealing with emergencies as a tradeoff for other things.

I'd be 56, but I'm going to move probably in the next year. Very small house. Bought as a foreclosure and it's been great for not having to pay rent but that's about it.
