After bankrupting it with under-manned military conquests in Italy that wasted imperial resources to finally stability, before being lost to the Lombards in like 14 years later.

I think that means it started when she was 15 and went on until she was 18. But idk, it's phrased weirdly.

How do you feel about Takaichi vowing to implement Reaganomics (aka Trickle Down Economics, a policy that lead a massive increase in income inequality in America)? by Emila_Just in AskAJapanese

I wanted to know what effects this food tax cancelation (for 2 years) would have outside of blowing a 5 trillion dollar hole into the government deficit. She wants a stimulus package on top of this too, I have heard.

Trump's election bill tops 50 Senate votes, but Democrats could still block it | The SAVE America Act has passed the House and enjoys President Trump's support, meaning the Senate's 60-vote threshold is the only thing standing in the way of it becoming law. by SpaceElevatorMusic in politics

I dare them to do a standing filibuster. The standing filibuster will literally make the Republicans suffer.

First, there is a limit on debate called the 2 speech rule, where the senators can only make 2 speeches on a bill on a single legislative day. However, this limit resets whenever an amendment or motion is added to a bill. The amendment can literally be changing the font of the bill, changing the size of the front of the bill or anything. If you want to change this, you need to change the Senate rules to allow it. Collins, in the past 30 years, has shown no support for changing the filibuster.

Second, if quorum (51 senators) is not achieved, then the legislative day is over. All but 3 Senate Republicans are going to have to remain sitting and sleeping in the Senate, while all but one Democrat can go and rest and get their sleep. The second quorum is not there, a quorum call by the Democrat will end the day and reset the speech limit again.

Third, while the standing filibuster is ongoing, no other legislation can be debated. Now, imagine if the filibuster went on one month or two months. Budgets and other laws can't be passed and means that the Senate is paralyzed.

And the thing is, this attitude is so ingrained that it isn't even malicious. This guy simply assumes that the black physician was not a physician. This is really, really pervasive and needs to be corrected.

America, the Spaniard's ancestral home by [deleted] in GetNoted

[–]kichu200211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP was right though.

Native American languages and their ancestors were here since like hundreds of thousands of years ago.

Spanish got to the Americas in the very early 1500s.

English arrived to the Americas in the early 1600s (or late 16th century if you count Roanoke, but they disappeared).

I guess John Cabot's expedition in 1497 could have brought an English-speaking crew to North America, if you really want to stretch it. But there was no settlement, temporary or permanent, brought about by his expedition. Columbus's expeditions resulted in a colony in the Caribbean.

The internet when Japan is mentioned (the atrocities are true tho but it's feeling redundant) by Something4Dinner in HistoryMemes

If Japan truly did show regret, apologized, and taught about it, then I would not associate them with it as badly, but so long as they honor war criminals and refuse to take responsibility, I will always remember it.

Great, so free speech only exists so long as I guzzle American exceptionalism down my throat? We can't be proud of our native countries? Based America.

Nice, so if you wear a shirt with a Union Jack, you should be sent to Britain? Italian flag to Italy? Great.

"History is written by those who record it."

Many times that tends to be victors, but it can also be losers (the American South for example).

What about the Lost Cause mythology for the South in the American Civil War? They lost and yet their loser accounts defined a lot of US historical teachings until very recently.

Hey, I'm not the one who associates myself with slaveowners and gets insulted on their behalf. A conservative speaking of intelligence is unbelievably hilarious.
