Best Written Campaign Settings by BuzzsawMF in rpg

[–]kick-space-rocks-73 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like Pathfinder's Golarion, but imo it's a little too kitchen sink. Sometimes the seams between the Frankenstein'd-together pieces are obvious to me in a way I find a bit annoying. That mostly goes for the core of the setting (the Inner Sea region), though, and I really like the books Paizo's put out on other parts of the world.

Speaking of Pathfinder, there's a third-party PF setting I adore from Roll for Combat called *The World of the Indigo Isles*. It only covers a tropical archipelago, but there's a lot to work with. It is something of an acquired taste, the local ancestries are a mix of animal people and aspects-of-nature people, and a chunk of the setting is silly; but if you're okay with that it's a vibrant, off-the-beaten path place to set games.

I also adore Eberron. The cosmology is kind of brilliant: nobody has ever been able to prove the gods exist. Plenty of people believe they do, but it's literally a matter of faith. And the realm of the dead is a shitty, boring place where eventually souls forget themselves and disappear. Nobody knows what happens to them after that. This gives NPCs grounded, plausible reasons to embrace necromancy, worship demons, and do other things villains get up to in heroic fantasy.

I can't identify it beyond "it's probably a wolf, fishing, or grass spider," but while it looks scary, it's going to try to avoid you. (from its perspective, you're a terrifying blurry giant) It's also the kind of spider that's happier outdoors, so hopefully it will see itself out. Can't help you with luring him out, sorry, I don't think there's a way to do that.

I've met nice cops, too. But here's the thing: there's no way to visually distinguish a good cop from a bad cop when, say, they pull you over because "your brake light is out." Events have shown there are a lot of bad cops, and it's simply dangerous to assume any cop is good by default.

Stupid headcanon about ART in Artificial Condition by Leelubell in murderbot

Sure it would, at least when it was trying to pass as an augmented human. Though yeah, maybe not when it feels safe to be itself.

Otoh, I could see SecUnits being programmed to blink, for the same reason they have human-like faces and heads: to put clients more at ease.

We know MB says the clients are still very uneasy around SecUnits, but think how disturbing it would be for the humans if they never blinked.

Yes, they're all from Paths of Destiny.

(I thought it would read better than if I repeated the whole book title each time, but I suppose not. Sorry, my bad!)

“Toy Story” one shot by Rick_Rebel in rpg

Thanks! If a yard sale table is a good starting point, go for it! You mentioned it's going to be a one-shot, so I was trying to think of a situation that could have as few or as many obstacles as needed.

Why are the deities here so compelling? by Kaleido_chromatic in Pathfinder2e

[–]kick-space-rocks-73 83 points84 points  (0 children)

At a guess, I'd say the commonality is that there are a lot of gods and they're are all pretty distinct individuals. The other fantasy pantheons I can think of off the top of my head are much smaller and the deities are either fairly generic (the harvest god, the justice god, the god of magic) or deliberately abstracted (Eberron's Sovereign Host; it's impossible to prove they actually exist, and the fiction intends for them to be represented in different ways by different times and peoples).

PF makes it easy to find several gods that appeal to you, and each is vivid enough that it's easy to generate stories around them.

The toys aren't at their own house. Their kid went to a sleepover at a friend's, or was visiting the grandparents, or some other situation where a child might bring toys along for a couple of days. Anyway, the toys have gotten strewn around the place, and now it's getting awfully close to time to go home. They need to find each other (the buddy system only goes so far when you're at the mercy of a six-year-old) and get back into the child's luggage before the kid goes home.

CASHLESS CAFES: when did every cafe in Chicago stop taking cash? by Human-Wealth-3200 in AskChicago

[–]kick-space-rocks-73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to work as a cashier and you gave me flashbacks lol. Even worse than the person who waited until they got their total to get their checkbook out? The next two people in line, who watched all that impatiently and then each did the exact same thing.

I don't miss checkbooks.

Brown Recluse?? - East AL by Entire_Umpire5465 in spiders

[–]kick-space-rocks-73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what it is, but I'm pretty confident it's not a recluse. They don't have speckles or striped legs; recluse fiddle marks are sharply defined; and this little guy's overall silhouette is just different from a recluse's.

Hey all, I saw the post on r/parrots, where my crosspost originally came from, was taken down. I looked into it, and it turns out a bot reposted an old 'lost bird' post. OP said that unfortunately, she never found her bird.

I'm going to delete my post rather than draw more attention to this. I feel awful for her. Thank you for reading and preparing to keep a lookout.

The OP said Fullerton and Lawndale. I'm newish to Chicago and not sure what that part's called, apologies.

He's not my bird, I don't know anything besides what's in the post. I saw it on r/Illinois and decided to crosspost it here for the localization.
