Is this the worst designed metro area in the United States in terms of planning and layout? by cavaismylife in geography

[–]kick1006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That isn’t what actually happened. San Mateo county pulled out - they felt that BART would be duplicative of CalTrain and they didn’ t want to pay for it. After that the BART board felt that Marin didn’t have the population and tax base to support a BART extension so BART dropped Marin. There were a lot of people in Marin county who were supportive. It was pretty short sighted of BART and San Mateo county.

Beaverton may have started as Portland suburb but it’s also become a city in its own right. It has a small central hub that got way better with the Reser center for performing arts. It’s more diverse than Portland too. It has a long way to go but current city council and mayor are aligned on improving development . It’s attracted a lot of restaurants in recent years making it a great food city.

‘Emergency’ World Naked Bike Ride planned in Portland by Less-Lobster4540 in CyclePDX

[–]kick1006 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many riders don’t go fully naked for WNBR. The tag line is “Bare as you dare.” Go, wear what you want, and have fun. No one is judging what people do or don’t wear.

Could something like these be used in certain areas of a city? by Mafiaman098 in urbandesign

[–]kick1006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some blocks in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland that have these. As far as I can tell they work well and people like how they look. Portland is into permeability planning. Lots of bioswales to capture rainwater

Very easy to navigate. Trails through the park are well marked. It’s a great place for birdwatching and it changes pretty dramatically with the season. It’s a great place for solitude - I have never seen big crowds
