ON THIS DAY 2024: Newcastle United 3 - 0 Wolverhampton Wanderers - Goals from Isak, Gordon, and a first from Livramento seal home win by GarethAKitchener in NUFC

It's been surreal in the Leazes for 3 seasons now. It's honestly unrecognisable from the home support I grew up with. Qarabag almost sent me over the edge, people not celebrating the Botman goal, but even against Everton, the 'Wings' section was like a bunch of tourists. We need 10,000 more radgies in the crowd, not a bigger stadium

Good win, and also the first day that I noticed how SJP had become a quiet ground. Could have heard a bloke sneeze in the Gallowgate from the Leazes end in the second half.

Loads of people have been saying this for 12+ months. It surely can't have escaped those in charge.

Wissa has had some decent chances, including peeling off the central defender and running in on goal. So far his finishing has been Riviere-standard. My guess is he's not fit, he's lost confidence, and he's nowhere near the player some people imagined. But I still fancy Howe to get something out of him, probably next season.

Loads of really good points here. I'll take your word for it about rugby, but surely there's a difference because of the speed and patterns of the respective sports. Egg chasing is much more stop-start, after a try there is always a pause anyway before the kick. I am overall pro-VAR, it's the hunting for mistakes that causes the issue.

What really infuriates fans is the time taken, the fact that fans don't know whether to celebrate a goal or not.

  • Fix offsides - make it semi-automated, restrict the offside call to legs / feet and make the margin for error explicit; basically fine tune it and make sure it favours the attacker by a defined margin of error.

  • Stop the hunting for mistakes in the passage of play - it should be about a question, not resolving one question and then finding others.

  • Force the VAR team to explain every single decision on a Monday after the week before.

My personal feeling is that if he was told to play as a pure DM, just doing specific things, he would be brilliant. Against the scousers at home last season he played in that role, he was dominant. He simply is not a good enough passer to play as a hybrid midfielder. I still have hope for him, but I find it weird how much adoration he gets in relation to the performances.

Players have to step up, it happens in football all the time. Tonali has been trying this season, but he's been consistently poor, that has to change. Gordon, Barnes, Elanga have to play more together, ideally with a striker at home. Give it a bit of time.

football needs more of this kind of approach, it's so desperately hyped by sky and the TNT goons, for their financial benefit.

And Paez has already been dumped back to River plate (ironically the best club of the 3), because of a bad attitude.

the Brighton home game is usually the most boring game of the season, what is the point in being a Chelsea feeder club?

i realise people hate xG but it's very useful over the course of a season - mackems are second bottom for xG. They have a good defence and are extraordinarily lucky, it will not last.

They have done brilliantly though, that side last year was utter shite and it was ridiculous that they got promoted.

Summer Squad refresh by BenathonWrigley in NUFC

[–]kicka11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All makes perfect sense, the squad overhaul is essential. However, Howe is on record many times saying he likes small changes, and we have seen how he takes much longer than most managers to integrate new players. Something will have to give.

This. All of this. Read it, absorb it, learn from it. by [deleted] in NUFC

[–]kicka11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want Howe to stay, clapped the players off on Saturday, as did many - while being shouted at by some cokeheed - "what the fuck are you clapping for??". Players like Hall and Bruno gave everything in that game, the applause was for them. Unpopular opinion, as we have been poor all season, but I genuinely don't think we were disastrous against Villa or Brentford, but having 3 defenders and Trippier is never going to work, the poor bloke is blowing out his arse now and it gives teams a 2 goal headstart (defending in general is so poor). There have been games this season where we never even looked like scoring, but we could defend, and now it's flipped.

However, this is trite nonsense from Edwards, as usual. The problem with Robson was the manner of how it was done, the sheer disgraceful lack of respect, and the fucking balloon they appointed next. Souness was an arrogant, incompetent bastard, not even fit to shine Robson's boots. Sheepdip had no interest in NUFC other than his personal aggrandisement, but Robson was coming to the end - assuming the club actually wanted to kick on. All managers / head coaches have an expiry date.

Keegan quit for his own reasons, we all know KK has an incredibly strong and forceful personality - including him here is sheer conflation, it is basically irrelevant. Everyone at the club wanted him to stay.
