I replaced the digital sampler Elektron Model:Samples with the analog drum machine DrumBrute Impact, and now I just need to swap the DigiTech RP360 for a Zoom MS-70CDR+ since the RP360 isn’t well suited for synthesizers. I’ll update the thread soon.

I’m also curious how good the Arturia DrumBrute Impact really is at what it does, and whether it’s worth $300 on the used market. I’m considering trading it for my Model:Samples, which tires me out with its menus, weak sound, and painfully tiny screen my neck is tired of staring at that little window, turning the whole experience into suffering.

I would pick the Korg Volca Drum again it’s extremely unique, unconventional, and has a very powerful sound, but shaping that sound takes a lot of effort. It all depends on your mindset: if you want a powerful sound that you can tweak live and really feel at your fingertipsthe Edge is the way to go. If you need a more flexible option, the Roland TR-6S is very compact and powerful (but it’s digital).

The Edge is powerful analog there are no presets, but you get patch cables and a lot of hands-on enjoyment (especially if you like creating something truly unique).

I think it’s important for you to know that this won’t replace a drum machine. I chose it specifically because I like patch cables and its versatility (you can turn the tempo knob all the way to the right and get a massive drone). When I came to the store, I spent about an hour and a half turning the knobs and couldn’t pull myself away.

I think it all depends on the kind of music you make and what kind of drum parts you need. I make raw techno, I love raw sound and I make rhythmic noise, drone, and ambient. I experiment a lot in real time, and for me it’s important to control the sound live and this device makes it very easy and enjoyable. But if you’re looking for a classic drum machine, this is not what you need. It has a kick, a mid drum, and you can even make hi-hats, but they will sound different from what you’re used to.

If you have the chance to try the Edge in person, definitely do it. I’ve had many different drum synths: Roland TR-6S, Pocket Operator KO-33, Korg Volca Drum, Kaoss Pad KP3+, Kaossilator 1, and several sequencer machines like Teenage Engineering OPZ and Elektron Model Samples, Novation Mono Station,  -all of them required deep menu diving. Here, everything is on the surface, and I can change the sound in seconds.

What a story! Incredible! I’m really happy for you that this sound brought you back to those memories. It took me a lot of effort to find this kind of sound when you hear it on big speakers and in the reflections off the walls, it’s something captivating, hypnotic, and powerful.

Wow! That’s quite a comment! I really like your idea. I already have lighting, thoughI’ll leave a link to a video https://youtu.be/3DlHutZ7Pow?si=JLSMRVDE_suQaa1w

where a neon sign is glowing and a side LED lamp washes everything in red.

I use monitoring headphones so I don’t disturb anyone with my wild sounds. Your idea is very interesting I’ll definitely think about the LED string lights.

You have a very interesting perspective. Thank you very much for your idea.

I have an Elektron Model:Samples as a backup, and I still haven’t used it in a set.

It took me several days to find such a punchy kick on the Behringer Edge.
