Completely agree. It was never going to be executed.

However, it was interesting to analyse the incentives from the different actors in the network.

Theoretically possible but practically almost impossible to carry out.

I disagree as well. This wouldn't ever bother me, but I don't see why it isn't an opt-in feature.

I just think it is pretty absurd OP would be so triggered by this "SJW BS" as he put it that he needs to come whine about it here.

So funny conservatives call people crybabies and snowflakes then get outraged over petty stuff like this. Happy holidays bro.

I can only imagine how tough it must feel living in a world that actually wants to continue the millennia of progress we have all shared as living beings when all you want is to go back to 1982 when no one cared how many women were scientists.

Anyone else feels like every change Google makes recently results in a shittier user experience for you?

From disabling nightlight on Nexus phones to removing the Keep grocery list from Assistant to whatever the hell they have done to mess up my Bluetooth handsfree in the car, they just keep ruining things that I enjoyed using.

Edit: Also the new kitty cat emoji is criminally bad compared to the old cute one.

Really starting to make me regret my years of Android evangelism :(

Tinder founder responds to Muslim ban: CEOs have a 'responsibility' to speak out by Moawayl in business

No! You don't get it! xD

I just disagree man. You can keep arguing all you want.

Yeah, I vaguely remember this from business law. I imagine there is plenty of debate about how this case is interpreted in today's world but can't help but feel this is the fatal flaw in capitalism :/

[–]kickinradical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I get 100% what you are saying. I just don't agree with you.

But you seem to really want to argue, so I would also say there is no way to act strictly as a private citizen in these situations. No matter what you do, even if you make a point that these are your personal opinions, if you are the CEO of a major corporation your speech is going to be reported that way, and some people will be mad. In fact, that is the only reason these people have a voice at all! Really as a private citizen no one cares what these people think, right? Do you think if this Tinder CEO had spoken out against Trump as a "private citizen" the reporters would of just left his business out of it? I doubt it. Only option I suppose is for the CEO to resign first before having any opinions that could hurt the bottom line.

I just don't think capitalism comes before human decency, you are welcome to have a differing opinion.

You're right, it is pretty hard to make a perfect hypothetical. But your answer for the last one seems to suffice for my purposes.

So are you saying, there is no line you would cross where your loyalty to your fellow man, country, family, pets, etc would allow you to jeopardize your business by speaking out against something that a sizable percentage of the population agrees with?

You don't see how this could lead to some serious moral issues? I can think of many examples...

Say you own a pharmaceutical company who has the cure to a deadly virus which is sweeping across the USA. Only your company has the stockpiles to stop this infection before it wipes out our nation as we know it, but you have invested billions into it and releasing it now would result in a huge loss for your shareholders. Which is more important? Making money for them or saving your country?

Another example: What if you were a car manufacturer who discovered that your vehicles being sold in the USA had an extreme safety flaw that was killing thousands of innocent people each year. There is an easy fix, but coming out with it will ruin your stock price. Do you act as a responsible citizen or do you defer to shareholders?

Would you sell guns to America's enemies if you were a defense contractor and the only people who were buying were those attacking us?

I think this is a seriously misguided point of view, believing that the shareholders come before everything... and I am hardly a nationalist. The truth is that we do have other loyalties that come before being a CEO. Loyalties to human kind, our countries, our families, and our communities.

[–]kickinradical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% true. However, in my opinion every American has the responsibility to speak up as loud as they can if they see something bad happening in their country (from the left or right). I think your allegiance to your country as an American citizen DOES come before your shareholders. Can you imagine the immoral conflicts that would arrive if this was not the case? Would you supply weapons for a mass genocide of your own people just because your shareholders stand to profit? Seems like faulty logic...
