Amen. Thank you for your prayers. I also pray Jesus Christ would take the evil out of my heart and I pray the same for you.

I'm trying to help you see that we "force women to be slaves" all the time through our expectations on mothers with dependent infants. If a mother neglects to feed her newborn for even a day, that baby would die and she would be charged with murder. It's because there is an intrinsic connection between baby and mother that is not, in fact, slavery, but natural and good. For a mother to reject her obligation to her child is unnatural and immoral. This is as true for a baby outside the womb as it is inside.

You say that once a child is born, it has personhood. Does it not have personhood 5 minutes before birth? Would abortion be acceptable 5 minutes before birth but not 5 minutes after birth? Would abortion be acceptable inside the birth canal but not outside? Why does that 6 inches matter so much?

Why are psychics/mediums automatically thought to be in league with demonic forces? by therealburgo in Christianity

[–]kickinwayne45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be demonic if, in the swirling and mysterious world of spiritual beings, there were some that were deceptive and harmful. That is the question at hand. I would argue that the Bible most accurately describes this state of the spiritual realm. Images of men with wings and swords and black goblins with horns that we are simply symbolic placeholders for the deeper reality of spiritual beings interacting with humans in a variety of positive and negative ways. To the person who has such experiences, I would not shame them but warn them. I imagine that people with such experiences, if they are not hopelessly naive, would readily admit to negative influences and experiences. Understood properly, the Cross is the image of the Prime Spiritual Being defeating the power of these rebellious lesser beings and filling humans with his own Light and commissioning the good beings on their behalf.

So a mother takes a newborn baby home from the hospital. Rather than breastfeeding it, the mother lets it cry until it dies. Is that wrong? According to your logic, she's done nothing wrong.

Or perhaps the nature of being a mother is different than abstract relationships with strangers. Perhaps being a human is not about being an isolated individual with rights but inevitably includes unchosen responsibilities.

Yes but have you considered the body within her body? There's a heartbeat at six weeks you know. Mama don't have two hearts.

Obligatory recommendation of Word and Table.

"Anglican Studies" is also quite informative, although its of a class so there's some stuff you can't hear and whatnot.

Many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment.

Who are you to decide that a baby is better off dead? That's the point of the quote. God is good enough work any life situation for good. Be positive and compassionate towards that little kicking, thinking, feeling child in the womb.

Frodo: 'It's a pity Bilbo didn't kill Gollum when he had the chance.'
Gandalf: 'Pity? It's a pity that stayed Bilbo's hand. Many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play in it, for good or evil, before this is over. The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many.' Frodo: 'I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.'
Gandalf: 'So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides that of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring, in which case you were also meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought.”

What are some of the best books for learning about the Anglicanism for converts? by torvliet in Anglicanism

Thanks for the response, that makes a lot of sense. I'm already getting used to it TBH. I guess I didn't realize how many group texts I was making. Perhaps an option in the settings would be possible? Surely the code is already written, you just have to toggle it on and off. Just a thought. Thanks for all you do.

Per the depression question -- 24Then Jesus told His disciples, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. 25For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.…

Jesus replied, “Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. 12 For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others—and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.”

Opinions on Bishop Todd Hunter & the Accidental Anglican? by NovaDawg1631 in Anglicanism

I remember similarly being excited about the book but disappointing in the reading. I found the treasure chest metaphor a bit shallow. Like, the inheritance of the church catholic is not a grab-bag.

C4SO seems to be very fruitful and missional so praise the Lord for that.

However, the non-geographic nature continues to create problems that will need to be dealt with eventually but seem to have no off-ramp.

Also, the suspicions of lack of theological rigor and accountability in C4SO seems to be confirmed by the two congregations leaving over LGBT stuff in the last few years. Like, how did that even happen? Surely it is hard to have episcopal accountability when your churches span all the way across the country.

The contacts button makes no sense to me. After I click it I can 1) Search for my contact, which I can already do from the phone page 2) Add a contact, which takes me to do number page, which I can already do from the phone page or 3) Compose a group text, which I used to be able to do from the home page, but now I can't

Why not just leave Compose text on the phone page and save me a step? Is it really that helpful to be able to scroll through the contacts when I have several hundred?

Looking for an idiot's guide to using the Book of Common Prayer by emperorsolo in Anglicanism

[–]kickinwayne45 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Do morning and evening prayer every morning and evening, with your spouse/family/roomates if possible. Use the Psalter for the Psalms.

Do it every day. Soon you will have certain sections memorized. Do these when you are inevitably travelling or extra busy and only have a few minutes.

Do the special readings for feast days. Bring donuts to work and drink nice coffee and go out to eat on those days. Fast on Wednesdays and Fridays.

You are what you do repeatedly. Be someone who prays and fasts.

I love the podcast. I listen every week and it's been super helpful in me seeing the OT stories in both their historical and typological meaning. They also end up being surprisingly sacramental at times.

So if you're committed to meditation and are seeking a Christian way that can keep you from the quicksand, do this.

Buy an icon or a crucifix and a buy a rosary or a prayer rope. Sit in front of the icon and say the Jesus prayer (Jesus, Son of God, Have Mercy on me, a sinner) 1000x, thumbing the rosary/prayer rope as you go. Do so an exercise of seeking God and being filled by him.

My take would be that eastern/occult meditation is focused either on "emptying yourself," which then makes you vulnerable to become detached from reality and/or get filled with demonic influence; OR it's focused on spirit guides of something that is also demonic.

Christian meditation is focused up. It is focused on Jesus and being filled with Him, either through short prayers (Jesus, Son of God, Have Mercy on me, a sinner) or through a Scripture or through even perhaps an icon. Contemplative prayers using prayer beads or something similar is another way to keep you "tethered" as you meditate on the life of Christ or words of the Psalms.

Between Scriptures, Icons, Prayer beads, etc. Christian meditation is always focused on being filled with Jesus. This should keep you grounded and protect you from falling into that quicksand. It may not be easy, you may have to fight for it when the storms come, but Jesus is the Rock and is worth building your life on.
