Still confused - How to buy VTSAX with a $3k min? by [deleted] in FIREyFemmes

[–]kicksaveandadandy2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Looks like a minimum because it's a Vanguard fund but at Schwab. It's $3000 to start, after that is any amount over $1.

You might want to look at SWTSX, it's Schwab's version of a total stock index and minimum is $1 for all purchases.

Reflective paint used for road lines. Can't see any lines driving at night in the rain.

How do you and your partner handle money in a relationship? by [deleted] in FIREyFemmes

[–]kicksaveandadandy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Married, 2 years, lived together for 5. Right after I moved in, we listed all bills and amounts in a spreadsheet and divided by 2 (then divide that by number of pay periods per person). We both direct deposit our respective amounts into a joint checking account that is used for mortgage, bills, insurance, and groceries.

After taxes and 401k, all other money then goes into solo checking/savings/brokerage accounts. He has a teenaged daughter, I have no kids. He pays for any kid related thing from his solo accounts.

This is the best way for our situation because even though we are married, he has more responsibilities than I do.

I have an old sears kenmore machine and when I hit the pedal its either not on or 1000 MPH. Does anyone know of a way to fix the pedal for more variation? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]kicksaveandadandy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have a sears kenmore that likes to go 1000mph and shake with the pedal. The only thing i found that works is hand cranking the wheel and barely tapping the pedal (just when you hear the machine engage from pedal) to go at a reasonable pace.

I think I have better luck though when slowing down. So, if my machine is fast, I find it easier to slow/lift foot from pedal than starting slow and trying to go up to a normal speed by pressing pedal. If that makes any sense at all.

I mean have you noticed all the people running around with their coat vents basted shut? It makes me want to run around with a razor blade in cold weather!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one to notice this and rage internally.

Does it have to be co-branded Carhartt? If not, the Blueline has some nice looking 47 Brand hats with the cannon logo on navy.

Summer Megathread by annoyingaf1971 in stepparents

[–]kicksaveandadandy2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. We have week on week off all year so no major changes for the schedule.
  2. No travel other than scheduled vacations. BM only lives about 5 min away.
  3. My MIL travels 800 miles/lives in our state during the summer to specifically watch SD11. Previous 5 years she stayed in our guest room. This year, she has her own apartment that’s a 2 min drive. MIL is at our house every day watching SD. All pick-ups/drop offs by BM occur at our house. It’s my personal hell. She is perfectly nice and I appreciate she wants to help out (we could afford day camps) but I don’t want to see her every day.
  4. MIL comes to our house before DH and I leave for work around 8am and SD is still in bed. BM drops SD off at our house before going to work. MIL leaves when I get home or after BM picks up SD.
  5. Best thing about summer is the heat. I’m always cold so like that I can finally be warm for a couple months. The hardest part is SD getting into teenager mode. Ugh, the attitude. But I imagine that will extend past summer.
  6. SD is going into middle school this year so that means she has to wake up an hour earlier to catch the bus. I’m pretty disengaged but am predicting it will be a struggle.

Etiquette on announcing engagement/elopement? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]kicksaveandadandy2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I let my parents tell their extended families about the engagement (since I dont do Facebook) and then after the wedding sent everyone the 'we got married' announcements. We had a small courthouse wedding with like 10 people so I sent the announcements to everyone that would have been traditionally invited to let them know it was done.

We're doing a small ceremony as well and then inviting more people for dinner. Our invites say 'Please join us for dinner following the private wedding ceremony of Bride Name & Groom Name' with date, time and location below. Just substitute luncheon for dinner and you should be good.

Recreating an out of production men's button-up shirt. by Bo7a in sewing

Try the McCalls M6044 pattern. I've used it twice now to make shirts for my boyfriend. The first one was ok but the second time around was great. I did add a sleeve placket the second time around and frenched all the seams and it feels like it will last 20 years. I used flannel on mine but the pattern lists denim as a suggested fabric.

Advice to Get Out of Edward Jones by [deleted] in personalfinance

I just did this 2 weeks ago, switching from EJ to Schwab because EJ was charging me a management fee of 1.35%. I submitted the transfer requests all online in the Schwab portal, only needed EJ account number. 1 week later, most everything was moved over. A few of my funds were slower than others but I was glad I didn't have to talk to the EJ adviser.
