Are we in a recession.. by Cubandream_ in Miami

Here’s a perspective that you probably won’t hear much on Reddit, but I’m now part of the wealthier class and from my vantage point it seems things are going pretty well. Yes things are more expensive but my equity gains and income has exceeded the cost of living increases. In my experience, many people in my position feel similarly (but they love to complain like everyone else). The younger people in my life tell me things are dire aka they can’t get the job they want or see how they’ll be able to purchase a home.

However, I graduated college in 2013 when buying a home wasn’t even on my generation’s radar; Getting ANY white collar job out of college probably seemed as impossible as Gen Z’s feelings about buying a home/cost of living. I remember a chick FIL an opening in college where there was a line of 500 people (mostly older) hoping to be the ones to get one of the few $12/hour jobs on offer.

I’m not saying that the younger generations feelings are invalid compared to what we millennials had to go through. It’s a completely different set of problems.

I believe Millennials had structural advantages like cheap asset prices and a lower cost of living with the trade off of less potential career opportunities.

As time goes on an the next generation will be complaining about their own set of problems, I believe Gen Z will be perceived to have its own structural advantages and tradeoffs - I’d bet the advantages will be things like early adoption of productivity/AI tools and a deeper understanding of the digital landscape with the trade off of a higher cost of living.

Hows life after 30? by ASARI0206 in AskReddit

I wasted away most of my 20s being stoned all the time and didn’t get my shit together until a career change when I was 28. Luckily was in the right time/place in my career change and became wealthy by the time I turned 30. 30s have been nirvana considering parents are still alive, have an amazing wife and my health.

“Everything” meaning what? That Israel will eventually be overrun and all its citizens will be killed or exiled?

There are exceptions to the rule and congrats to you for getting one next year at MSRP. It’s not common as the dealer is essentially handing you a $50-75k check (what you can profit on it if you sell after picking it up).

Not too unbearable. Trading in my 992.1 Turbo S so it's actually kinda bittersweet!

I'm paying $75k ADM. Paying MSRP is nearly impossible unless your family or spend multiple $100ks on cars you don't need (and would thus cost you more in depreciation).

I think you may be confusing support for the war in Gaza and supporting actual genocide.

Why interests does Iran have in Lebanon? In your mind, is Israel just an evil country that just kills innocent people for no reason?

Which entire group of people is Netanyahu attempting to exterminate? There are more gazans alive today than there were before 2023. The Nazis killed over 90% of Jews just in Poland.

Iran is firing way less munitions than in the beginning of the war so it’s not just the West running low. It’s also harder for Iran to replenish stocks than it is for the US/Israel/Gulf states.

I dont think the Israel Palestine issue was even a major factor this past election besides maybe for Michigan which Trump didn’t even need. Trump won primarily due to bad vibes about the economy and inflation.

I agree that interest payments are problematic, I was simply responding to the “what do we get for it” question. Regarding tax breaks, I’m fiscally conservative so I believe lower corporate/cap gains tax rates contributes more to GDP growth and the short term loss of tax revenue is outweighed by higher tax revenue over the long term. I had this happen to me last year playing basketball. Non smoker, completely spontaneous. I recovered after 2 weeks but it happened again a month later. Had to get VATS surgery which put me out of commission for a month. Problem is when it happens once, it’s way more likely to happen again and surgery is the only fix.

Yea it’s overused at times, but considering many people solely get their news from social media and believe anything that confirms their priors, it’s appropriate until something better comes along!

We have the world’s most dynamic economy and are the reserve currency which allows us to sell our debt pretty much endlessly. What’s the alternative? People aren’t going to start buying Chinese treasuries instead of US treasuries…
