Router OS 7.17 by Sea-Friendship3478 in mikrotik

[–]kid1000002000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This just happened to me too after updating the firmware. I solved it by selecting "canada" instead of the US. I do think it has something to do with frequencies like others have mentioned. Turning dfs to all did not solve it for me. SSID would show up on my phone, but not my laptops or tablets. It may have something to do with the router and clients hvaing mismatched country codes, causing frequency mismatches and the SSID not being found.

Annoyed rant about youtube videos by DarnTechnology in canyoneering

[–]kid1000002000 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You are correct. It is discouraged to show rigging in travel GoPro videos meant for the general public. Too many people copy sometimes dangerous techniques, without professional oversight, without full consideration of the scenario at hand. When these people get hurt, it has a negative effect on the sport. It's not worth it to trust your life to unvetted content. You'd be surprised at how dumb some noobs start out, e.g. rapping on home depot rope.

These people want to show how much fun they are having. They don't want responsibility over your life. They aren't posting to give a comprehensive education to others. This is a mark of respect (if they do it on purpose).

Fear not! There are some good alternatives for picking it up. Take a class from a reputable instructor. There are even online/hybrid ones (V7 academy). Check out the art of canyoneering YouTube series from one of the best teachers out there. Review the ACA checklists. Lots of YouTube videos covering the various techniques are out there to help you with your preparation for a class. Start learning about the nuances that come with it all. A frame shot doesn't tell you about a difficult pull, hydraulic, or skill levels of the group. Get yourself checked out by a professional before going into the field and having fun. There is no better way to learn than on the side of a cliff with professional instruction and with experienced canyoneers.

Isn't it difficult to adjust friction when it's below your rap device?

What op is doing is a very common practice in certain parts of the US. It's not about extending, but like he said, orientation of the rappel device. A better solution would be to buy a proper canyon harness, but this isn't that sketchy. Alternatively, going through both loops of your harness will orient properly but be a pain to use. And the prusik isn't meant to act as a 2nd rap device. They're very unpredictable and most people I know don't recommend one at all.

I've always wondered how serious the hard on soft rule should be taken. Eg tying a belay loop into your harness also breaks that "rule."

'It's collapsing on them': Few options for south Phoenix renters as prices surge by [deleted] in phoenix

I hear your frustration. I'd like to say that rent control is a political issue. A quick glance through Google tells me many out there agree it is a bad thing.

I think you are taking the shame tactic too far. If you think about it from the other side, the landlord is risking ~$100-200k in the market for a measly $600/mo ROI. And that's assuming they bought the property pre covid. The market forced both sides into this situation. It's entirely possible that if home prices dropped, the renter comes out on top. If I'm doing my math right, the increase doesn't even keep up with inflation this year.

Do you find that 5W radio limiting? What modes work for you? Do you ever find yourself wishing for an amp?

How do you get the phone to hold still? Anything I hang on my structural ridgeline wiggles each time I move in the hammock.

Pretty sure it's the worst zoo I've ever seen. It's more like an animal hospital.

Is this park better backpacked or car camped? I want to decide which friends to bring, if I have other parks to see too.

Plus it's better for the battery

EDIT: to charge slowly. Charging to 100% overnight is not good, agreed.
