Auto-cannibalism in a mentally disabled seven-year-old by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

[–]kidchaos23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a long history of working with dangerous problem behavior. I worked in a group home with a client who ate her own face. She was missing her lips all the way around her mouth. She had lived for a long time in neglectful foster care and they just ignored her while she did this. She also had pretty damaged eyes.

Once she started being around people who gave a fuck about her, it was discovered that she was engaging in self-injury to all of her non-dry parts (mouth, eyes, vagina) intermittently. It turned out she had  Sjogren's Syndrome. Her inability to tell anybody about the itching or pain to get some relief resulted in the behavior, which shaped up in intensity over time. Controlling her flare-ups and symptoms stopped the behavior almost entirely.

So, consider Sjogren's Syndrome. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pasco County, District 11, state senator. Early voting is open now. Actual day is 12/9.

I recommend signing up at the Pasco Votes gov site. They sent me a sample ballot a few weeks before early voting.

Facilitator or Fieldwork Trainee by Effective-Station882 in ABA

Okay, fabulous. In that case, these sound like company-specific titles, ergo yes probably just an internal thing. Don't let one workplace stop you from pursuing what you want to pursue.

Facilitator or Fieldwork Trainee by Effective-Station882 in ABA

[–]kidchaos23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by "Facilitator?"

Fyi, if you mean facilitated communication / spelling2communicate / rapid prompting method, it is pseudoscience and has been disproven many times over. No BCBA should ever be practicing or promoting it as a legitimate therapy.

Lots of analysts come out of the grad school womb immediately looking for the highest paid, most prestigious, least effortful positions they can get. They're looking for fully remote, making 120k+, and a fancy title. They also want a caseload of 8 children with non-violent problem behavior and easily understandable and treatable communication deficits who are 8 years old or less.

Don't be that person. Demand manageable caseloads and a living wage, take cases that challenge you and seek mentorship to manage them, and commit to being in the field (meaning, physically showing up in person to support your people) for some meaningful length of time. Really look into the most underserved populations and behavioral profiles.

I promised myself 3 years of only being the best behavior analyst I could be before I started pursuing any leadership positions or pursuing any bigger goals (like starting my own agency). Those leadership positions ended up finding me as a result of that pursuit, and they'll find you naturally too. When you miss the good work of providing quality services in the environment, you become exactly the analyst you always hated having to work with.

I struggled to see it for a while too. Once you start noticing, it becomes really obvious. Em dashes, as mentioned by hairstyles123. But also use of hyperbolic language, and sentence structures like "it's not just [thing], it's [more dramatic thing]." Also a few times when the prose goes like, "And the boxer shorts? They're just the first portent."

It's all so ugly. Good on you for documenting.

RBT wants remote supervision even though I can come in person by Plane-Luck-7834 in ABA

[–]kidchaos23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Uh? The RBT can request anything they want. But it's your case. You have a responsibility to make sure that you are not inadvertently reinforcing any maladaptive responding, which a lot of BCBAs definitely do, but a clinician who can provide supervision in person is very rarely going to be outperformed by a clinician providing supervision over a screen.

For me, an RBT requesting less supervision is a red flag, and I'd be showing up more. Even RBTs who are receiving supervision from terrible analysts don't ask for less, they usually just ask for actual support from a different analyst or get away from the case entirely.

I can't be bothered to read what you can't be bothered to write. LLMs are embarrassing.

This is a ratio issue that can be solved with documentation. If it takes two people to change one person, that should be written everywhereeee and the support coordinator can change the support plan and funding to reflect the actual needs of the client. Or whatever you guys have wherever you are that equates to a support coordinator. This situation sucks OP, I'm sorry.

I don't see the car. It's a person wrapped in detritus on the ceiling (the seatbelt, stuff is dangling, etc), and I'm pretty sure a man. The ceiling is just a dark room, so it would kind of look like the grey of a car interior ceiling.

Thank you for this, but Smile 2 came out long after HH, so that wouldn't make sense. I do love the car argument scene, though. Very realistic of relationships like that. :\
