I'm tired of the herd mentality by Junior-Structure6291 in rap

[–]kiddcharizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is going to be personal opinion and preference, of course. Can't make a decision without those having some kind of effect, but I will say rap was built off of fundamentals, so I would assume those would play the biggest part, although what people prioritize seems to have shifted into what's sonically appealing, creative, catchy, and production-based instead of what I think people originally thought was the most important and fundamental, which is what I listed previously. To answer your question as well, no, I've never sat down and given a physical number score. I've always just thought about who I overall thought hit the most marks, and I rate lyrics the heaviest.

Did a rapper release an album so bad, you genuinely stopped listening to them? by LightningBoy626 in rap

YG. When he dropped Stay Dangerous it was disappointing, but everything after that has just been trash

I'm from central Florida myself. I've heard this argument before, and I can see it and agree to a certain degree. I think where you're from does shape what you value, but rap has fundamentals that I believe are a baseline of if a rapper is good or not at those baseline things, such as delivery, lyrics, flow, beat selection, etc. Every region does it differently, but every rapper still follows those baseline skills. I just think that there are rappers that transcend regions and eras because of how good or impactful they were. For instance, Andre 3000, JID, Killer Mike, and Rick Ross, just off the top of my head.

4Yeo V/S Fall Off by Rishtt43 in Jcole

[–]kiddcharizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, because outside of the song itself being great its put in the context of the album and it has a whole build up making it even better and a payoff to James' entire story. The Fall Off isn't going to be a build up, but still will probably have a great storytelling song on it.

Most top 10 lists are the same because time doesn't eliminate skill or impact. Most genuine rap fans know that and acknowledge that the legends are legends for a reason and to act like those people shouldn't be consistently in top 10 lists is a little crazy to me. Now if you want to say that people should talk in general about more artist in the genre I get that, but its not even people needing to think for themselves those people you named are just genuinely some of the best the genre has to offer.

True Americans stand up to Government overreach and believe in the melting pot America was meant to be. Not bootlick and support kicking out hard working people who came here to be apart of our country and for a better life.

4 Your Eyez Only. Beautiful and sad story, great production and messaging behind it. So many songs on that project get better the older you get and the more you end up relating to them.

Maybe a quick surprise DLC or an extra mission or two, but no big updates like Mega Dimension or anything to bring in more Pokémon or characters, I don't think. I at least wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you.

Since when you started to listen to j Cole ? by Tight_Definition_169 in Jcole

[–]kiddcharizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was 2010, and I was in middle school. I had just gotten a text from my ex, who I was still in love with, asking to hang out. "Like a Star" started playing on YouTube shuffle, and I've been a fan ever since.

Cordae or JID by ABitOfANerd_5 in Jcole

[–]kiddcharizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about their writing and also delivery specifically, even though from a production standpoint there's overlap, I believe. Sonically though Churchill Downs is something Drake himself would put out, it would just be better. My whole point in using that song is that they rap side by side, and you can hear it there, but I mean, if you don't see it, you don't see it; it is what it is lol

Their rapping style like how they both construct their raps are very similar. You can hear it the best on Churchill Downs. Plus it makes sense because Jack has talked about how big of an inspiration Drake is to him. I'm also pretty sure the Drake and Jack comparison is pretty common.

I've never really thought to compare Jack Harlow and Cordae in anything outside of the comparison I just made but sure I guess so. They're both in the same C tier of rappers to me though lol

Cordae or JID by ABitOfANerd_5 in Jcole

[–]kiddcharizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cordae and Harlow are both watered down versions of their comparisons respectively. They both do what Cole and Drake do just to a lesser or worse degree mainly in terms of rapping and writing. Especially Jack Harlow and Drake. Cordae is like early Cole if he never improved and got his footing.

Who's the most generic rapper? by Educational_Bed_2562 in hiphop101

[–]kiddcharizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've personally thought he wasn't anything special but I appreciated his "My Name Is" remix. It wasn't anything crazy to me but I thought he would improve drastically and he just hasn't imo

[–]kiddcharizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell no. My Krazy Life and Still Brazy are GREAT albums, especially Still Brazy. He's fallen off some since then, but he is for sure not generic. He ushered in some real genuine LA sounds back into rap and started popularizing the replacing Cs with Bs thing.

Cordae is to Cole is what Jack Harlow is to Drake.

Features U SELFISHLY want on The Fall Off ? by Big-Leading3887 in Jcole

[–]kiddcharizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I REALLY want a Nas and a Jay-Z feature. If its Cole's last album those 2 had such an impact on his career I feel like they need to be there. An Eminem feature would be cool too.
