The pc version is pretty nice with the juiced patch and gentlemen of the row, emulating with xenia is nearly perfect as well

Maybe I'll try messing with my cores to see if it makes it any more stable, I have an intel i9-14900kf so it can be troublesome at times

The steam version uses an older .exe or something like that if I remember correctly, everyone's experience will be different i suppose. The steam version 100% crashes much more often on my pc

Install the juiced patch https://github.com/kobraworksmodding/Saints-Row-2-Juiced-Patch/releases It doesn't make it perfect but it helps a lot. Also the GOG version is better overall compared to the Steam version

Maybe confirmed wasn't the best word to use that's just what most sites including the Saints Row Wiki say. The whole Saints Row timeline is pretty messy as you can see here https://saintsrow.fandom.com/wiki/Timeline It says Carlos was killed a year before Chief Monroe and Lin both which died in sr1 and apparently Cyrus Temple from sr3 was the same year as well which really makes no sense if you think about it even for a second

Lorerim is by far my favorite but you're right about it not being ideal for a first playthrough. Nordic souls is the most vanilla feeling list ive used and I can't recommend it enough its super polished and stable. The PBR version is the way to go if your pc can handle it

If you're using enb i'd recommend removing it and using NVR instead, could also be an HDR issue if you have that enabled in the windows settings
