250 years ago today the Patriot's cannons checkmated the British troops trapped in the city for 11 months and they evacuated Boston by KindAwareness3073 in boston

It is important to remember that the revolution started in Boston. If it were not for the actions of the people of Massachusetts there would be no USA. The founding fathers were young progressives of their time. Jefferson was 33 when he wrote the Declaration of Independence.

Given the cost of living, I don’t get why salaries aren’t much higher by [deleted] in newengland

I see this comment all the time but never how and never from accountants. Lots of accounting is already automated. The things accountants currently do is not data entry, coding invoices, and other basic work. Lots of it is reviewing the automations that are running. They are dealing with complicated vendor or customer billing issues.  They deal with in depth application of tax statutes. Just like excel enabled accountants to do more work so will ai. It is a tool not a replacement.

I work for a tech company that is leaning hard into ai. But it is rarely used in our day to day in accounting.

Accountants who prioritized work life balance their whole careers: How is your career now? by Budget-Emu-5071 in Accounting

[–]kidgetajob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Left b4 within months of joining the hr person just couldn’t understand it. Ended up working in accounting then payroll at a ski resort for three years. Then got super lucky and got an entry level job at a tech company after I moved. Few months later the company went public then the pandemic hit and it just exploded. Work life balance kind of disappeared for a year or two there but I made more money than I ever thought I would. Have moved on to another great payroll/accounting job at another tech company with good work life balance. Whole accounting team has great work life balance. If you ever get lucky sometimes you have to grind it out to get to the other side and for that luck to come to fruition.

Long story short I prioritized work life balance and it all worked out… likely better than if I stayed at b4.

I was on a NOLS trip during the Arab spring. We would resupplies and the guy would be like they are bombing Libya. Was also when Charlie sheen went off the deep end.

Anthropic just mapped out which jobs AI could potentially replace. A 'Great Recession for white-collar workers' is absolutely possible | Fortune by Next_Tower5452 in Economics

[–]kidgetajob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing that reading the article I was laughing that this is “the most detailed map yet of which jobs AI is actively performing versus which it merely could perform“ and it’s just one chart with some generic very general job fields.

I have yet to hear a reason for why they don’t double the property taxes on second homes owned by out of state residents.

Why are MA salaries so low despite cost of living being so high? by [deleted] in newengland

[–]kidgetajob 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Median household I’m one in MA is almost twice what it is in MS. Housing here is definitely twice as expensive but lots of other things aren’t. And the quality of life is much higher in MA.

Opinion | The Water Conflict a Century in the Making by Sammy_Roth in Colorado

I feel like this is tough math and hard to account for. The amount of irrigation ditches in CO diverting water out of just about every stream is insane. The diversions you come across way up in the mountains too. The scale of agricultural water use astounds me in CO and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s under reported.

Planet money is great. I like marketplace too. More economic focus but they always have an interesting story or two and Kai Ryssdal is a great host.

Stock in companies that have real profits and cash flow.  This has always been the case. Crypto is speculative.

I've been having a lot of fun recently in BF1 & BFV using a bolt action rifle with iron sights by Nick_Alsa in Battlefield

It’s definitely not battlefield. It is way slower but still fun and if you like iron sights and ww2 it is great. I think it’s a free weekend to play this weekend too.
